Visiting Disney World soon? Want to meet some of your favorite characters?
Meet-and-greets aren’t quite back to “normal” yet in the Most Magical Place on Earth but you can still say “hello” and snap a selfie with some princesses, the main mouse, and more. Meeting these characters, however, will require you to wait in a standby line. Want to skip the wait and get quicker and easier access to your favorite Disney pals? We’ve got a little tip!
If you’re wanting to skip the standby lines in Disney World, then you’ll want to look into using Disney Genie+ and Individual Attraction Selection. These paid FastPass+ replacement services allow you to pay a certain amount to SKIP the standby lines and use the new “Lightning Lanes” (a.k.a. the old FastPass+ lines). With Disney Genie+, guests pay $15 per ticket per day in Disney World to get access to the Lightning Lanes at over 40 attractions.
Guests can use the Genie+ service to look and see when they can use a particular ride’s Lightning Lane. They can book the Lightning Lane return time they want, and when the return time arrives, they’ll simply hop into the Lightning Lane to bypass the wait. Guests can continue to make 1 Lightning Lane selection at a time throughout the day.
Not all attractions are included on Genie+, however. Some are available through the Pay Per Ride service, and some simply didn’t have Lightning Lane access at all…until now.
Recently, we shared that Disney was going to make some changes to the Disney Genie+ lineup, and now the changes have arrived. Four Disney World modified character meet-and-greets are now available through Genie+!
Specifically, over at Magic Kingdom, the modified meet-and-greet with Mickey at Town Square Theater is now available through Genie+.
Additionally, the modified meet-and-greet with Princess Tiana and a Visiting Princess at Princess Fairytale Hall and the modified meet-and-greet with Cinderella and a Visiting Princess at Princess Fairytale Hall are also both available through Genie+ now.
At Disney’s Hollywood Studios, the modified meet-and-greet with Olaf at Celebrity Spotlight is also now available through Genie+.
So if you’re on a mission to see your favorite Disney characters AND skip the standby line, you can now use Genie+ to make a Lightning Lane selection for one (or more) of these experiences. Remember that you must buy Genie+ ($15 per ticket per day) if you want to use it to skip the line for these attractions.
When we searched through the My Disney Experience app, we could see that these experiences are now available to book.
You can choose the experience you want and then select a time to visit your favorite character.
From our experience this morning, it seems like you might not always need to use the Lightning Lanes to visit the characters. The standby lines were not super long at the character meet-and-greets, especially first thing in the morning when many guests head to popular rides and attractions to start the day.
So if you’re going to buy Genie+, it might be better to use it to get on popular rides in the morning and then use it later on in the day to visit characters when the standby lines are longer. But it’s also possible that not everyone is aware that the meet-and-greets are available on Genie+ now, so maybe the character meet-and-greet Lightning Lanes will be in higher demand soon. We’ll continue to watch for changes and bring you all the updates.
Keep in mind that these meet-and-greets are modified. Hugs and autographs are still not allowed. Guests are able to see these characters from a distance and take some distanced photos/selfies with the characters, as well as talk to them from a distance.
Genie+ selections are subject to change, so be sure to see if any changes are made ahead of your trip. We’ll continue to keep an eye out for more Genie+ updates and we’ll let you know what we find!
