As the situation with COVID-19 continues to change and develop, we’ve seen a number of adjustments made and other news.
Over the past few weeks, mask rules have changed at Universal Orlando Resort, the U.S. has hit a record 1 million daily COVID-19 cases, and we heard from over 2,000 Disney fans who say that the Omicron COVID-19 variant has changed their travel plans. Now, it seems COVID-19 is impacting an international Disney park.
Earlier today we visited the Hong Kong Disneyland website and noticed that there is a message at the top discussing an upcoming closure. According to the notice, “as required by the government and health authorities and in line with prevention efforts taking place across Hong Kong, Hong Kong Disneyland Park will temporarily close from Jan 7 to 20, 2022.”
The notice specifies that the resort hotels at Hong Kong Disneyland will remain open with an adjusted level of service. There will also be adjustment in services at restaurants and recreation facilities in the hotels there.
If you’re planning to visit Hong Kong Disneyland in the near future, keep in mind that these arrangements are subject to change. The notice on the website specifically says that the situation and regulations will be adjusted from time to time based on government requirements.
Back in 2020 and 2021, the park closed a number of times due to the pandemic. It closed earlier in 2020, reopened in June of 2020, re-closed in July (reopened in September), re-closed in December (reopened in February 2021), and most recently, it closed in November for a short period of time due to suspected COVID-19 cases.
According to ABC News, these latest changes come after Hong Kong announced a 2-week ban on flights from the United States and several other countries. The 2-week ban on passenger flights from select countries is set to take place on Sunday and continue until January 21st.
A Hong Kong leader has also indicated that “restaurant dining will be forbidden after 6 p.m. for two weeks starting Friday. Game arcades, bars and beauty salons must also close during that period.”
According to ABC News, the Hong Kong Leader, Carrie Lam, has said that the city is “on the verge” of another COVID-19 surge. Hong Kong reported 114 cases of the Omicron variant as of Tuesday. ABC News shares that “The city has reported a total of 12,690 confirmed coronavirus infections as of Tuesday, including 213 deaths.”
We’ll continue to look for more updates about this closure. Stay tuned for more information.
