The holiday season is a busy time of year — especially at the airport! Between the influx of people trying to make it home for the holidays, some nasty winter weather, and a worldwide pandemic, there are a lot of complications for travelers looking to fly on New Year’s Day. 

As passengers try to navigate the hustle and bustle of New Year’s Day, some unforeseen circumstances seem to be causing significant travel delays across the country.

According to CNBC, over 2,400 U.S. flights have been canceled on New Year’s Day due to both “severe weather across the country and a surge in omicron infections among staff.”

In Chicago, a severe winter storm causes some airlines to suspend operations.

What to Do If Your Flight to Disney World is Canceled

It has been reported that 205 American Airlines flights and 153 United flights have been canceled out of Chicago’s O’Hare International Airport, according to CNBC.

In other parts of the country, flights are being canceled or delayed due to “omicron infections among crews,” according to CNBC.

This news comes as Florida continues to fight the omicron variant, seeing hundreds of new cases each day. Orange County was even upgraded to a COVID-19 Hotspot status in December.
