It’s time to take a look at all the construction going on around Disney World!

2021 was filled with tons of different projects as Disney spruced up the parks for the 50th-anniversary and, while we had a few months where things calmed down, refurbishments are BACK in full swing throughout the parks and resorts. So, this week we’re seeing what’s being done at an upcoming attraction in Magic Kingdom, a newly closed fan-favorite ride in Disney’s Animal Kingdom, and more — let’s get to it!

Magic Kingdom

TRON: Lightcycle Run

We’ve been bringing you the play-by-play as construction on Magic Kingdom’s upcoming roller coaster, TRON: Lightcycle Run has continued over the past two years. Last week, we got a peek at the progress from the side and now we’ve got a look from up above on the PeopleMover! Here’s a look at what we saw the last time we took a peek from the ride…

…and here’s what it looks like now! The large walkway that will lead guests from Tomorrowland to the entrance of the attraction has been paved…

…and while much of the rest of the area still looks like an active construction site full of dirt, you can see the beginnings of the tunnel for the Walt Disney World Railroad being constructed in the middle towards the back. So, if you’re wondering why the Magic Kingdom train hasn’t been running for more than three years, it’s because the train tracks in Tomorrowland are planned to go straight through this area.

We still haven’t heard an update from Disney on when this new ride could open in the park, but it is certainly coming along!

Adventureland

There are often a few smaller projects going on around Magic Kingdom too and this week we noticed that the railways near Club 33 in Adventureland were being painted.

The area that had wet paint was blocked off with a rope for the time period that guests needed to avoid touching them. These signs tend to disappear pretty quickly though because it’s really only there while the paint is…well…wet.

Disney’s Animal Kingdom

Expedition Everest

Back in September, we learned that Expedition Everest would close in Disney’s Animal Kingdom for a 3-month long refurbishment in early 2022 and that time has come. On January 4th, the fan-favorite ride boarded up its doors and the area is pretty quiet and abandoned now.

All of the signage for the ride is now covered up and some construction walls have popped up near the attraction’s gift store, Serka Zong Bazaar. One thing to note though is that the store has remained open for guests, so you can still get all the yeti souvenirs you could wish for inside.

Disney’s website currently notes that Expedition Everest will reopen sometime in mid-April, but an official date has not yet been announced. We’ll be on the lookout for more updates but be sure to keep this refurbishment in mind if you’re visiting Disney World through the spring!

DinoLand, U.S.A.

The final pieces of the former -inducing ride, Primeval Whirl, were taken down in DinoLand, U.S.A. a few months ago and many park-goers have been curious about what Disney has planned for the area. We stopped by this week to see what could be going on and from a birds-eye view on TriceraTop Spin, it looked as though construction crews were still clearing out all of the remnants from the ride.

One thing that has changed over here is that there is now additional stroller parking located next to the bright blue fence. Plus, the bright orange fans are an added bonus for warm days in Florida.
