There are some BIG changes coming to the Disney Parks this year!
We’ve been bringing you updates about things like the Star Wars hotel and the Splash Mountain Transformation, and we even shared a recent update on a new Toy Story restaurant! Today we’re back with a look at all the areas of Disney World that are currently under construction — let’s check it out!
Magic Kingdom
Splash Mountain
This popular Frontierland ride has been closed for routine maintenance since the beginning of January — something pretty common among water rides in the winter. This week it looked like crews were still hard at work on scaffolding near the top of the mountain…
…and working on updates down at ground level, too.
Since this routine maintenance has nothing to do with the Princess and the Frog re-theme, you can expect the ride to reopen on February 10th, 2022.

TRON: Lightcycle Run
We’ve seen a decent amount of progress on this attraction lately! TRON: Lightcycle Run was first announced back in 2019, and crews are still making moves to get this rollercoaster built!
Looks like they’re still working on the canopy part of the structure.
We still don’t have an official opening date for this attraction, so be sure to stay tuned to DFB for updates!
EPCOT
Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind
We’ve got a SERIOUSLY exciting update this week for Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind. Up until recently, seeing progress on this attraction felt like watching paint dry (maybe because that’s literally what we were doing!) but crews have started to build the Nova Corps Starblaster ship.
The ship is going to be a huge marker for the entrance of the attraction — you won’t be able to miss it!
Cosmic Rewind is scheduled to open during summer 2022, and we’re keeping our fingers crossed!

World Celebration
Oh, EPCOT construction. You’ve been around so long you (unfortunately) feel like part of the park at this point. World Celebration might as well be called “Wall Celebration” but we did see some new scaffolding go up where Mouse Gear was!
Disney is still keeping guests in the dark about what will be located here, though, and we have no expected completion date.
Starbucks
Nobody panic — you can still get Starbucks at EPCOT. The grassy area near Starbucks, though, was walled off with a green tarp!
We aren’t sure what Disney is up to behind this green wall but you can bet we’ll be looking out for updates!
Disney’s Hollywood Studios
Toy Story Mania Gift Shop
Doors to the Toy Story Mania Gift Shop were closed when we visited this week!
Cast Members couldn’t confirm the reason for the closure or how long it would remain closed for, but maybe it has something to do with Jessie’s Trading Post, the new addition which is reported to be “full of the coolest toys and finest souvenirs.” Sounds like a gift shop to us!
Disney’s Animal Kingdom
Dinosaur!
The last time we stopped by this attraction, we saw the famous Disney construction bushes near the entrance, but we weren’t quite sure why! On our most recent trip, the fountain at the entrance was drained.
It looks like our friend Alador could use a touch-up, so perhaps the fountain was drained to prepare for some painting!
We’ll keep an eye on this project and let you know if we have an update!
Disney Resorts & More
Disney’s Yacht Club Resort
We took a stroll around Disney’s Yacht Club Resort and spotted some exterior cleaning and painting going on.
It looks like this is just routine maintenance, but we will let you know if we see any big changes!
Disney’s Skyliner
The Disney Skyliner has had its share of headlines since it was first opened, and this week was no different with the closure of one route that affected EPCOT, Disney’s Riviera Resort, Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort, Disney’s Art of Animation Resort, and Disney’s Pop Century Resort.
BUT — we are happy to report that this Skyliner route is open once again!
The newest form of Disney transportation was closed for routine maintenance.
And that’s it for the construction update for this week! Things are constantly changing around Disney World, so be sure to check back here for the latest updates!
