*NEW* Kung Pao Bao – $21.00

Kung Pao-glazed crispy pork belly, chili peanuts, steamed bao bun, red pepper, and green onion slaw

This is an unforgettable entry for the festival. This is hands down far and away one of the best dishes to come out of not only the festival but maybe even out of the Lamplight Lounge itself.

The bao is soft and delicious, and the crispy fried pork belly is unbelievably decadent. With the spicy Kung Pao sauce that’s subtly sweet but not overpowering and a hefty dose of spice, this dish is perfectly balanced and supremely satisfying.

One simply cannot relate, in the confines of a short review, how amazing this Kung Pao Bao dish is. It must be tasted to be believed.

*NEW* Oolong Donut – $10.00

Oolong-dusted beignet donut served with oolong crème anglaise, and orange soy pudding dipping sauces

These donuts are good, but not as surprisingly good as the other two Lunar New Year offerings. The donuts are sugared and don’t really taste like oolong but they’re delicious on their own.

The sauces really help pick it up a notch with the orange crème anglaise and the oolong dipping sauce. The oolong dipping sauce really ties it all together and brings that flavor to the fore.

The orange crème anglaise is light and creamy, but with an odd flavor of cereal milk almost. It’s in no way unpleasant, but it’s not really the best seasonal donuts that Lamplight Lounge has had and it’s not as shockingly amazing as the other two Lunar New Year offerings.

Overall, still a valiant showing for a Lunar New Year dessert.

*NEW* Lunar Cocktail – $15.00

Baiju Chinese liquor, smoked orange syrup, orange bitters, and lemon juice garnished with orange peel

This one is great. After a day of drinking the heavily-sugared, syrup drinks at all of the booths, it’s a welcome change to have a sweet cocktail that is well-balanced and well-made.

With a healthy dose of light, fruity citrus and a subtle smoky undertone from the smoked orange syrup, this is definitely the best cocktail at the festival by a long shot.

It’s complex, pleasantly sweet, and just an overall delicious offering that pairs very well with the Kung Pao Bao.

These Lunar New Year offerings at Lamplight Lounge will be available from January 21 through February 13.
