At DFB, we LOVE Disney World’s plastic cheese. You know, that golden, plastic-looking cheese that comes with Mickey pretzels and corn dog nuggets. It’s the kind of cheese that isn’t necessarily the world’s finest cheese, but it does exactly what it needs to do. What can we say — it’s a classic! And while you won’t find us disparaging plastic cheese very often, we do feel obligated to inform you that there is a HUGE difference between plastic cheese and beer cheese.
Plastic Cheese is a favorite of ours!
Ok, so what’s with all the cheese talk? Well, the latest victim of Disney’s supply issues seems to be cheese. Let’s investigate what’s going on!
On a normal visit to Disney’s Hollywood Studios, we love to recommend the Bavarian Pretzel with beer-cheese fondue and spicy mustard at BaseLine Tap House. It’s salty, warm, and the dips are SO good! You can buy it for $9, which is pretty good for a large pretzel and two (quality) dipping sauces!

Here’s a closer look at the beer-cheese fondue. Let’s be honest, you can just tell this is good cheese based on the picture!
Beer Cheese Fondue
During our recent visit to BaseLine, we (of course) ordered the Bavarian Pretzel. At this point, we were informed, according to an apologetic Cast Member, that Disney is currently out of beer cheese! Instead, we were given this (substandard) plastic cheese that tasted like melted American cheese. It was NOT as good as the normal cheddar dip. It was also different from that classic plastic cheese that we all know and love.
That’s not the beer cheese we know and love!
We had a similar experience over at Pongu Pongu in Disney’s Animal Kingdom! When we ordered the Na’vi-sized Pretzel, we were given something closer to plastic cheese instead of the regular beer cheese sauce included with the snack. The pretzel served here is $11.29.
The same thing happened recently at Pongu Pongu!
We’re hoping that this beer cheese shortage is over soon — we already miss that incredible dipping sauce! In the meantime, stay tuned for all the latest Disney news and park updates!
