For better or for worse, Disney has been remaking a lot of their classic films as live-action movies. Some of these remakes have been well-received by fans, while others have not done so well.
One story that Disney is currently remaking is Pinocchio, which will feature Tom Hanks and premiere on Disney+ later this year. But did you know that this isn’t the only remake of that classic story in the works right now? Yep, there’s ANOTHER Pinocchio on the way, and now we have the official teaser for it!
Oscar-award-winning Guillermo del Toro will be directing the new Pinocchio movie. This film will “reimagine the classic tale as a stop-motion musical adventure,” according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Several stars are joining the voice cast, including David Bradley as Geppetto, Tilda Swinton as Turquoise Fairy, Ewan McGregor as Sebastian J. Cricket, Finn Wolfhard, Cate Blanchett, John Turturro, Ron Perlman, Tim Blake Nelson, Burn Gorman, and Christoph Waltz. Gregory Mann (a newer actor) will voice Pinocchio.
From the teaser, it sounds like this story will be told from the perspective of Jiminy Cricket (or Sebastian Cricket, in this case). The Hollywood Reporter stated that this story is “set during the rise of fascism in Mussolini’s Italy” and centers on “love and disobedience as a result of Pinocchio’s struggle to live up to his father’s expectations.”
This movie is coming out on Netflix in December of 2022. Check out the full teaser below.
