VIDEOS: The ‘Alarming’ Thing That Could Disrupt Your Disney World Hotel Stay

Planning to stay at a Disney World hotel soon?

Pop Century Resort

You’ve probably already thought about hotel perks, parking costs, pricing, room types, and more. But if you’re the type that likes to sleep in until past 11AM, head back to the room to rest in the middle of the day, or just spend a day at the resort soaking in the sun, there’s one thing you should know about that otherwise might catch you entirely by surprise!

Sometimes guests in Disney World can be given a bit of a rude awakening if a fire alarm goes off. Most times these situations are dealt with quickly — guests evacuate from the buildings, the Cast Members address the situtation, and if it was a false alarm people can generally go back in once given the all-clear. If an emergency situation has truly transpired, then it might take more time for the situation to be dealt with.

But fire alarms might not just go off unexpectedly in the early morning hours. Today, as we were walking around Disney’s Pop Century Resort closer to 1PM we heard fire alarms going off.

We went into the hotel lobby, which is where we found a sign indicating that a fire alarm test would be going on today between 11:30AM and 2:30PM. The sign notes that during this time, guests might hear the loud ringing tones of the fire alarm and a Cast Member might visit guests’ rooms to check that the fire alarm devices are working properly.

Fire Alarm Sign

We heard the fire alarm going off a few times during our visit at Pop Century today.

We’ve seen these fire alarm testing signs pop up in other hotels as well. Typically, if a test is scheduled to take place, you’ll find these signs in the lobby of the hotel or on the ground floor of the building you’re staying in. Be sure to look for them each morning during your trip.

If you had planned to spend a relaxing day in your hotel that day and just lounge around in the room, one of these signs could cause you to change your plans! The sounds of the fire alarm being tested could be very disruptive to your plans for relaxation. So you might instead want to spend that day in the parks, Disney Springs, or another spots (at least until the testing is over). It’s another reason why adding some flexibility into your Disney World plans can be really beneficial.

We’ll continue to keep an eye out for more Disney news and we’ll let you know what we find. Stay tuned for all the latest updates!
