What’s Your Favorite Disney Song?

Probably my favorite area of Disney fandom is the music. Music is what binds us all into a unified moment of pure happiness and meaningful experiences. Dancing, singing, clapping, swaying; we do it all when there’s great music. And what a wonderful “Welcome, 2022” surprise to find out DIS Radio is back on the air! Yes! Pete Werner recently announced its return which you can find on Free Internet Radio – Live365. I already downloaded the app to my phone, searched for it within the app, and added it as my favorite station by selecting the heart icon. You can also access it through Alexa, Amazon Echo.

DIS Radio

Whether it’s Disney park music loops, Disney movies, or Disney attractions, I love all Disney music. From parades to Disney on Broadway to fireworks shows and piano renditions that put me to sleep, and, of course, my guilty pleasure playlist, I love it all. DIS Radio will be run by Nick Chappell, a self-proclaimed Disney nerd (like us!), Marvel fan, and frequent traveler/DVC member to Walt Disney World and Disneyland. Nick is a fellow DISer and has been a guest on DIS Unplugged shows in the past. You can hear him personally announce the daily DIS Radio News Flash on the newly reformatted DIS Radio channel.

What is your favorite Disney song? It could be from a Disney TV show or a background music loop; what is your most favorite of all time? Maybe with your recommendations, Nick will play them on DIS Radio!

Come and share and let’s have some Disney fun! And when you comment below, the rule is we all have to sing the song with you!

Here are my top favorite Disney songs…what are yours and why? Here we go!

Go the Distance

I probably have listened to every rendition of this song from the movie Hercules. Alan Menken and David Zippel, the writer and the lyricist, got it right with this one. From the original version with Roger Bart to Ricky Martin’s Spanish version, I think I have “spotified” this one to so many versions I never get tired of it. My favorite is the choral version within Happily Ever After fireworks show. I get the chills, and I envision myself running the runDisney marathons, which I have never done, but I see it anyway in my fantasy brain when I hear this song.

Makin’ Memories

This song is from the pre-show of Magic Journeys, written by the Sherman Brothers and composed and arranged by George Wilkins. I remember this most from the 1990 version of Disney Sing Along Songs videos (Disneyland Fun). This song actually got me hooked on that video series (which I adored), and must be added to Disney+ immediately! Makin’ Memories is a lot like the Main Street Trolley song for me. It’s retro, and cutesy and fun, and isn’t that what Disney is about?

Heigh Ho

From the movie Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, Frank Churchill and Larry Morey got this song right. On the Seven Dwarfs Mine Train attraction, you can find me singing along with the dwarfs loud and proud. Really loud. You can also find an amazing version of it on the Saving Mr. Banks soundtrack by the Dave Brubeck Quartet.

Je m’en vais – Extrait de Frere des ours

So basically it’s Brother Bear, but in French. I don’t speak French; I have no idea what it means. But there I was in a Walt Disney World restroom next to the counter service restaurant at Disney’s Riviera Resort and the music came through the speakers. We were resort hopping, enjoying lunch at Primo Piatto, checking out the Skyliner from Epcot, buying souvenirs in the resort’s lobby shop (of course its name was La Boutique), and feeling like I was in Europe even though I have never been to Europe. I was pretending. The restrooms were amazing and when the music piped through, I was hooked to this song. Then I went into a deep dive from there into my Spotify with numerous French versions of classic Disney music. So with one resort hop excursion, I left with lots of souvenirs, a satisfied stomach from a French café and a new favorite song in a new-to-me genre of Disney music, international style.

So, what is your favorite Disney song? Remember, once you say it, we have to sing it out loud together at home!
