We’ve seen several updates to health and safety measures in the past few days.

Disney World and Disneyland are both changing their face mask policies to not require vaccinated guests to wear masks at most indoor locations. Universal Orlando made the same change. And now Canada is updating their testing requirements for most travelers entering the country.

According to a News Release from the Government of Canada, fully vaccinated travelers coming into Canada from any country will no longer be required to test for COVID-19. Some will still be selected at random for arrival testing, but even these travelers will not have to quarantine while they wait for their testing results.

This change will go into effect on February 28th, 2022, at 12:01AM EST. Any children under 12 years old who are traveling with fully vaccinated adults will be exempt from quarantine as well. That means they do not have to wait 14 days before going to school, daycare, or other activities.

Any unvaccinated travelers are still required to be tested for COVID-19 upon arrival, tested again on day 8 of their visit, and quarantine for 14 days. The government stated that “unvaccinated foreign nationals will not be permitted to enter Canada unless they meet one of the few exemptions.”

In addition, you can now use a COVID-19 rapid antigen test (taken the day before your arrival) or a molecular test (taken no more than 3 days before your arrival) to meet entry requirements. All travelers must show a negative result of an authorized COVID-19 test in order to enter Canada. Note that rapid antigen tests taken at home do not meet the requirements — a test must be “authorized by the country in which it was purchased and must be administered by a laboratory, healthcare entity or telehealth service.”

Canada is also changing their Travel Health Notice to Level 2 (it was previously at Level 3). According to the news release, “This means that the Government will no longer recommend that Canadians avoid travel for non-essential purposes.” As part of this change, “all Canadian airports that normally receive international flights will once again be able to do so. Currently, only 18 accept international arrivals” (CTVNews).
