The term “databand” has been replaced with “MagicBand” on the Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser website as the grand opening approaches. The Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser website previously referred to MagicBands as “databands” to comply more with “Star Wars” canon.

Previously, the “What’s Included” list said “Exclusive Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser databand (known on your home planet as MagicBand).” It now just lists “Exclusive Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser MagicBand.”

The FAQ previously included the question “What is a databand?” and a brief explanation. This has been replaced with the question “How are MagicBands used on board Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser?”

The answer to the new question is “MagicBands allow you to interact with sensors called access points onboard the Halcyon starcruiser, at Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge and throughout Walt Disney World Resort. You may be more familiar with their common uses—unlocking hotel rooms, connecting Disney PhotoPass images to your account, and charging food and merchandise purchases to your room, for example—on your home planet.”

Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser test cruises have been ongoing for the past few weeks, and Disney may have found that the term “databand” was too confusing, especially with the term “datapad” being used for the interactive section of the Play Disney Parks App. Most guests will already be familiar with “MagicBand.”
