We’ve seen a lot of price increases around Disney World lately, and it doesn’t look like they’re stopping any time soon.
Prices have gone up on things like Dole Whip, hot dogs, Mickey waffles, and more. We’ve seen the prices at Starbucks in Disney World increase as well, with the most recent change happening last month. And now, there are even more price increases coming to the coffee chain.
Starbucks already raised prices in the U.S. in October and just last month in January, but the CEO said the company is planning even more price increases this year, according to WESH.
“We have additional pricing actions planned through the balance of this year,” said CEO Kevin Johnson. He then said that price increases “play an important role to mitigate cost pressures, including inflation,” according to WESH. Johnson went on to say that even though their prices have increased, the company still saw “incredibly strong” demand through the holiday season.
In fact, in the last 3 months of 2021, sales at Starbucks stores that have been open for at least 13 months went up 13% globally and 18% in North America, driven partially by the higher prices, according to WESH.
Like a lot of other companies, Starbucks is also facing higher labor costs in addition to inflation. The company said in October of 2021 that it would raise wages to at least $15 an hour for baristas, with most hourly employees earning an average of nearly $17 by the summer.
And, Starbucks isn’t the only company raising prices. In 2021, restaurant prices rose 6%, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. So, the hundreds of price increases on food we’ve seen around Disney World this year aren’t alone.
We’ll be on the lookout for more details on these price increases and if/when they hit the Starbucks stores in Disney Parks, so stay tuned to DFB for updates.
