Our Readers Think These Are the BEST Disney Movie Soundtracks. Do YOU Agree?!

With all the buzz about the success of the Encanto soundtrack, we had to wonder — what Disney movie has the BEST music?

There are a LOT of Disney soundtracks that slap but how do you, dear readers, feel about Disney music? We asked our readers, which Disney movie do you think has the best MUSIC?

We reached out to our readers on our Facebook page (give us a follow if you want to share your thoughts in the future!) and received some BIG responses — as one reader said, “This is akin to choosing a favorite child (or a favorite cat)… I won’t do it!” We get it! So what movies made the list?

Moana

Moana was a popular response from our readers! As one reader put it, “love the songs and the background/soundtrack music.” Moana was released in 2016, with songs written by Opetaia Foa’i, Mark Mancina, and Lin-Manuel Miranda, with the score by Mancina.

You try not singing along with “How Far I’ll Go” or “You’re Welcome!” “How Far I’ll Go” was nominated for Best Original Song at the 89th Academy Awards, and the Moana soundtrack peaked at number 2 on the Billboard 200 chart.

Tarzan

Tarzan was released in 1999, with the songs composed by legendary musician Phil Collins, and the score by Mark Mancina. A reader commented, “my wife and I vote for Tarzan. Phill Collins was awesome with that music.”

Another reader noted, “Tarzan has the most underrated soundtrack.” They’re not wrong! There’s something about the song “Strangers Like Me” that has us screaming “I WANNA KNOW! CAN YOU SHOW ME??!!” Another song, “You’ll Be in My Heart” won the Academy Award for Best Original Song.

Settle the debate. Which classic Disney movies are the best?

Hercules

One of our readers was surprised by the lack of Hercules votes, and several other readers chimed in to agree. “I’m shocked at how few have mentioned Hercules! That soundtrack slaps!” The songs for the 1997 Hercules soundtrack were written by Disney Legend Alan Menken, with lyrics by David Zippel.

Another reader commented, “Hercules and Moana are my favs!” “Go The Distance” is a classic Disney song, and who could forget Megara’s epic “I Won’t Say (I’m in Love)” ballad??

Frozen 2

Frozen 2 (not Frozen, surprisingly!) was mentioned a few times by readers, with one reader noting that it might an “unpopular opinion.” Another reader commented, “Each song is so good! I just love that soundtrack!

After the smash hit of “Let It Go” from Frozen, we weren’t too sure what to expect from the soundtrack of Frozen 2. Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez came back to compose most of the music for the sequel, and the soundtrack reached number one on the Billboard 200 chart in 2019. “Into the Unknown” was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Original Song, and “Lost in the Woods” is a banger!

Encanto

Ah, we’ve arrived at Encanto, which has basically been stuck in our heads since it arrived on Disney+. A reader commented, “We love all Disney songs, but the Encanto soundtrack is really good.” In fact, one song, “We Don’t Talk About Bruno,” has reached number 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 Chart, making it the highest-charting song from an animated Disney movie in 26 years.

But it’s not just one song! “Surface Pressure” is sat at number 8 on the Billboard Hot 100 Chart, and “Dos Oruguitas” has been nominated for the Academy Award for Best Original Song. As one reader put it, “It’s between Encanto and The Little Mermaid for me! I currently have all of the Encanto songs running through my head all day.” Same, though.

Hot take! Some readers would rather have an Encanto restaurant than Woody’s Round-Up.

Disney Renaissance Movies

Did you think we’d leave out the classics? Many readers said they couldn’t decide between the soundtracks from Aladdin, The Lion King, Beauty and the Beast, and The Little Mermaid. It’s time for some nostalgia! One reader said, “For me, I think The Little Mermaid was pretty special, for just the all-around best most singable and creative songs.

©Disney

One reader commented, “I grew up loving The Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast, and Aladdin.” Technically the “Disney Renaissance” took place from 1989 to 1999, and also includes Hercules and Tarzan! What a time for music.

Another reader voted, “The trio of classics: Aladdin, Beauty and the Beast, The Lion KingMoana really brought back the magic also!

©Disney

From “Part of Your World” in The Little Mermaid, to “A Whole New World” from Aladdin, “Tale as Old as Time” in Beauty and the Beast, and “Circle of Life” from The Lion King, among MANY other amazing songs, it was truly an incredible time for Disney music.

As many of our readers put it, can you even decide between these classic Disney films??

Warning! Don’t read this if you’re a Disney movie fan.

Mary Poppins

And finally, Mary Poppins was a popular response from our readers! A reader commented, “Loving how many are saying Mary Poppins. It truly does have the best music and so pleased I’m not the only one who thinks so.” You’re not alone!

©Disney

The classic 1964 musical, starring the iconic Julie Andrews, won five Academy Awards, and many of the songs are still well-remembered to this day. Can you still sing “A Spoonful of Sugar” by heart? And let’s not forget our favorite song after a nonsense word, Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious!”
