Individual Lightning Lane Rides Moved to Genie+ at Disney World

Walt Disney World is once again tweaking the Genie+ attraction lineup, moving an Individual Lightning Lane selection from each park into the bucket for the paid FastPass+ replacement. This post takes a look at the changes, reasons why, and offers speculation for the future. Let’s start with the why of this. Basically, it’s a mix […]

Video Preview – Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser Delivers Immersive Theater On a Grand Scale at Walt Disney World

My first taste of immersive theater as an art form came from a show called Accomplice in New York City, which had me and a few friends running around lower Manhattan (within a larger group of strangers who were also participating) interacting with eccentric characters in an effort to solve a seedy underworld mystery. Later on […]

FULL REVIEW: What to Get (or AVOID) for Breakfast at the Star Wars Hotel in Disney World

Mickey waffles. You know ’em. You love ’em. You could eat a million of ’em on vacation for breakfast (and any other time you can find them). But now the critical question arrives — can you get Mickey waffles for breakfast…in SPACE?!

Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser

The Star Wars hotel is a majorly hot topic right now, and we’re bringing you tons of information about this spot ahead of its official opening so that you can know if it’s really worth that BIG price tag. And since we’re the Disney Food Blog, we’re putting a big emphasis on the food at this new hotel (of course! Vacations are for eating, am I right?!)! From bubble waffle grilled cheese to blue shrimp, we’re trying it all and giving you the lowdown. Right now, let’s take a look at what the most important meal of the day looks like in SPACE!

You’ve arrived at the Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser, been greeted by the Captain, and enjoyed your first night’s rest on board the Halcyon (that’s the name of the ship you’re on, btw). Now you’re up and ready to take on your first full day of this experience. First, you need some fuel! Breakfast is a buffet-style affair that takes place in the Crown of Corellia Dining Room on Level 4 of the hotel — er, ship.

Atmosphere

The Crown of Corellia is the main dining room at the Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser. This is where breakfast, lunch, and dinner are all happening on each day of your visit (unless, of course, you choose to have lunch in Galaxy’s Edge during your excursion to Batuu).

Crown of Corellia Dining Room

Breakfast is available from 7AM to 11AM on Day 2 and 7AM to 10AM on Day 3. You can go to get food whenever you want it during that time. In our experience, we didn’t have an issue with the room or buffet line being too crowded because people ate pretty quickly. There’s a lot to see and do in this hotel, so not many guests spent a long time on breakfast!

Table at Crown of Corellia Dining Room

The large, futuristic room has tables and chairs as well as booths available.

Seating is assigned.

The lighting comes from sconces around the room and a few large chandeliers in the middle of the ceiling. These aren’t your typical chandeliers, though. They look very high-tech, with concentric circles culminating in bright, colorful lights.

Chandeliers

The seating is tub-style chairs with a dark blue fabric and some futuristic gold accent designs. The booths are made of blue vinyl material with a blue velvety material on the backs.

Tables and stage area

In a smaller room off of the main dining area, you’ll see the buffet lines…

Buffet area

…as well as a station for beverages.

Drinks station

Everything looks very sleek and dare we say space-ish in this area! Now let’s get into the food!

Eats

The price for your stay at the Star Wars hotel includes most of your food and drinks as well (with certain food items and alcoholic beverages available as add-ons). There are a few breakfast cocktails, specialty drinks, wines, beers, and mocktails available in the morning. These all would cost extra if you’d like to try them.

Extra drinks

Included in the buffet for drinks are various soft drinks

Soft drinks

…and blue and green milk. Yes, we were VERY excited about the unlimited blue and green milk here!

Blue and Green Milk on tap

On Day 3, there was also a juice bar.

Juice Bar

You could get Orange Juice

…or Apple Juice.

Apple Juice

We mentioned before that breakfast is a buffet, so let’s walk down and see what’s available for this meal. First, you’ll grab a tray. The food items are in smaller dishes, which you can fit together on your tray. This system kind of reminded us of the game Tetris actually. Food Tetris? We’re in.

The buffet is a little different on Days 2 and 3, but some dishes were available both days.

Day 2

Since you arrive in the afternoon, there is no breakfast on Day 1. But beginning on Day 2, there are lots of options for this meal!

Breakfast Tray

Starting out, the breakfast buffet has a Compressed Fruit Plate. The fruit bites were vacuum sealed with simple syrup to give them a little more sweetness, although they still weren’t too sweet for our taste. The vacuum sealing gave the fruit a slightly translucent look. We especially loved the dragon fruit on top.

Compressed Fruit Plate

There’s a Pastry Board with a few different pastries, including a blueberry muffin (the purple one), a croissant with fruit jelly on top, and a sweet bun (the green-ish one). The blue spiral is blue milk butter, which tasted like slightly sweet butter (we didn’t really taste a blue milk flavor in it), and it’s topped with a strawberry jelly square.

Pastry Board

You can also grab some Palmfruit Yogurt Acai Sweet Creamfreeze, which is topped with quinoa granola and yuzu jelly. (In case you haven’t had yuzu before, it’s a citrusy fruit that’s kind of like a mix between a lemon and a lime.) This is a great light option if you’re looking for a break from the heavier foods on this buffet. It’s basically a normal, unflavored Greek yogurt with a slightly citrus flavor. So it’s not really anything special, but we’re also not mad about it!

Palmfruit Yogurt

Disney must have been prepared for all of the Star Wars-loving Millennials coming to the hotel because Avocado Toast is one of the items on the menu here! It’s actually called Green Pearberry Toast, but it’s basically the same thing. The bread used for this dish is Whole-Grain Toast.

Green Pearberry Toast

Turns out, that’s a trendy breakfast in space as well. We enjoyed this dish, and we thought the avocado tasted creamy and fresh. We also thought the extra additions on top (maybe fruit?) added a great, sweet contrast to the avocado. Our only complaint is that we wish the bread had been toasted more because it tended to bend under the weight of the toppings. In our opinion, this was the best of the plant-based options.

Not our favorite

You won’t find any Mickey waffles in this buffet, but there are some Star Wars waffles! The miniature waffles had the symbol of the Chandrila Star Line on them. These tasted just like those classic Mickey waffles you know and love. They’re malty, pillowy, soft, and delicious. If you’ve ever had other character waffles in Disney World (like the Stitch or Lightning McQueen waffles), these are basically the same thing, but with the Chandrila logo on them instead of a character.

Chandrila Waffles

You can also get some Maple Syrup to go with your waffles.

Plenty of Maple Syrup

You can get more traditional breakfast items like eggs and sausage as well, which still had a fun twist for your space adventure. This is a great option for picky eaters or little kids.

Eggs and Sausage

The eggs were Rolled Omelets, and these (along with Roasted Sausage) came along with the waffles. The egg was somehow flattened and then rolled up into a spiral with a lot of cheese. So they’re presented in a fancy way, but they’re essentially normal eggs.

Rolled Omelet

Both of these tasted very similar to the eggs and sausage that you’ll find on the breakfast Ronto Wraps in Galaxy’s Edge. We’re big fans of those wraps, so we really enjoyed this play on classic breakfast. The sausage had a lot of flavor, and the skin on the outside was crackly and very tasty.

Roasted Sausage

For plant-based eaters, there is Kale Porridge, which is served with “Sausage” Gravy (which is actually mushroom gravy) and “Egg” Worms. We usually don’t love fake eggs, and this situation was no different. The “eggs” had a strange texture to them, although they might be fine if you enjoy plant-based eggs! The Kale Porridge also had a strange consistency, and it was too mushy for us (and the green color probably didn’t help). So plant-based eaters may enjoy this if they’re looking for a savory option and don’t mind the fake eggs, but it certainly wasn’t the best thing we ate during this meal.

Kale Porridge

One of the most unusual-looking items on this buffet was the Whipped Eggs, which are topped with a Spiced Batuu White-Sauce. We’re not going to lie, these kind of reminded us of egg white-flavored jello, which is not a super appetizing thought. And like we expected, the flavor and texture of this dish weren’t our favorite.

Yeah…we don’t know.

The egg part tasted like you went to McDonald’s and took off the egg layer of the breakfast sandwich and ate just that. It had a little bit of spice but not very much. Overall, we didn’t love this dish.

Not a favorite!

Finally, you can get the Crispy Tuber Waffle, which is kind of like a giant hashbrown that has been shaped into a waffle. It’s topped with a Chedd-cheese Egg Bite, Applefruit, Bacon, and an Herbed Egg-butter Sauce.

Crispy Tuber Waffle

Y’all. We saved the best for last. This was our favorite thing on the entire buffet. The hashbrown was perfectly cooked, and the egg was super cheesy (you know we love our cheese). The bacon flower on top was a little bit sweet because it was apple-smoked.

Inside the Crispy Tuber Waffle

It was served with a cheesy, herby, buttery sauce that reminded us a little of a hollandaise sauce. All of the flavors worked well together in a classic but elevated way.

Grab-and-Go Breakfast

If you’re hoping to hop right on the transport to Batuu on Day 2 and don’t have time for a full breakfast buffet, you can opt for the Grab-and-Go breakfast instead.

Grab-and-Go

These to-go boxes can be found in the Sublight Lounge.

Sublight Lounge Bar

They contain a few pastries (like the ones found on the buffet), a serving of Palmfruit Yogurt, and some whole fruit options.

Grab and Go Breakfasts

We spotted bananas

Bananas

…and mandarin oranges here.

Oranges

You can also grab drinks at this spot, such as Orange Juice

Orange Juice

Coffee (black and decaf)…

Coffee

…and various teas. Hot water is also provided for the tea.

Teas

And if you need any condiments for your coffee or tea, you can get those here as well! There were sugars, honey, lemon slices, and milk.

Lemons and honey

If you’re looking for the best bang for your buck in terms of breakfasts, we would definitely recommend making time for the buffet. There were some interesting options, and we really enjoyed the waffles especially! But it’s nice to have the grab-and-go available in case your plans don’t allow for a full breakfast on Day 2. Note that this breakfast buffet is also available on Day 3, so you can still visit even if you don’t make it the first time around.

Day 3

The breakfast buffet on Day 3 was similar to Day 2, but it had some different dishes. The items that stayed the same were the Chandrilan Waffles

Waffles

…the Waffles with Rolled Omelets and Roasted Sausage

Waffles with eggs and sausage

…the Pastry Board

Pastry Boards

…the Palm Fruit Yogurt

Yogurt

…and the Compressed Fruit Plate.

Compressed Fruit

But there were still some new dishes for this buffet. The first was a breakfast flatbread called the Breakfast Meat Pie. This is essentially a breakfast pizza with cheese, sausage, and bacon.

Breakfast meat pie

The crust was thick but still crispy on the outside, and we thought all of the flavors worked well in this dish. It’s a good choice for a less-adventurous eater. The chefs told us that there is actually a wood-fired oven on the ship, which is why the pizzas all taste so good at this hotel.

Like a pizza

The Crispy Tuber Waffle was basically a large, crispy waffle fry. It came with a Cheddar Egg Bite and Apple Fruit Bacon. The egg bite was covered in an herb-egg-butter sauce, which was kind of like hollandaise sauce and tasted delicious.

Crispy Tuber Waffle

And the bacon was applewood-smoked and twisted together to form a lattice, which made it a little more unique than just normal bacon.

Pretty!

The plant-based option on Day 3 was the Spiced Bobotie with Red Fruit Jam. The red fruit jam was tomato jam. (There were a lot of tomato dishes on the Starcruiser, and we thought most of them worked really well.)

Spiced Bobotie

The “egg” in this dish had the same problem as the plant-based dish on Day 2, which was that the texture was very strange to someone who is not used to fake eggs. We enjoyed the tomato jam, but we probably wouldn’t get the bobotie again.

Not our favorite

And now we come to one of the best things we ate during our entire stay: the Meteor Egg! This was basically a Scotch egg, so it was soft-boiled and covered in sausage. There was also a layer of cake batter around the entire thing, and it was served with Turmeric Aïoli.

Meteor Egg

Our party was actually divided on this dish — some people loved it and others weren’t as into it. But if you enjoy good Scotch eggs, we think you’ll love this.

Inside the Meteor Egg

The sausage was herby and very well cooked, but the fried cake batter around the whole thing was the real star. It was flaky and crispy, and it reminded us of a cross between corn dog batter and a funnel cake.

Nosh or Not

Try out the more adventurous eats at the buffet if you:

  • Are looking for some unique options for breakfast. The Whipped Eggs and Kale Porridge were both unusual dishes, but they were also very pretty and looked like fun “space” food. If you want some great food for your Instagram feed, this is going to be the best place to get it.
  • Have a lot of time in the morning. If you’re not rushing to your Batuu excursion (AKA to Galaxy’s Edge) first thing in the morning, you should come down to the buffet. You can get almost everything that’s in the to-go boxes at the buffet as well (except for the whole fruit), and there are a lot more options there.
  • Love classic breakfast foods. There were some strange offerings for sure, but you don’t have to be into the unusual flavors and textures in order to enjoy a meal here. The waffles were delicious, and the sausage and eggs were very familiar as well. The yogurt is another good option if you want a safe choice.

Stick to the to-go boxes (or bring our own breakfast) if you:

  • Are heading straight to Batuu ASAP. Having these available as a time-saver is great for a quick snack before you head into Hollywood Studios.
  • Are a very picky eater who doesn’t want to step out of your comfort zone. We mentioned before that the waffles, eggs, sausage, and yogurt are pretty safe options, but if you aren’t comfortable with any kind of changes to the basic breakfast foods, you may want to pack some granola bars in your luggage.
  • Want to sleep in or go do other activities instead of eating a large breakfast. Breakfast is open until 11AM on Day 2, but you may want to use the morning time to explore the ship and do other activities. And if you’re going to sleep in, it might be a better use of your time to get a quick breakfast and then go participate in more events at the hotel!

Overall

In general, we thought the breakfast at the Star Wars hotel was pretty good! We love that there are some options for everyone, so you can be as adventurous as you’d like to be. The Whipped Eggs were not high on our favorites list, but those Waffles, Crispy Tuber Waffles, and Meteor Eggs were all pretty good.

Day 2 Breakfast

We’re glad we took the time to visit the Breakfast Buffet, and we would recommend it to anyone staying at this hotel in the future. Compared with other breakfast buffets in Disney World, this one definitely has some more unique options than you’ll find at Chef Mickey’s or even Tusker House.

Day 3 Breakfast

It’s fun to try out the different flavor combinations and textures, but we probably wouldn’t choose the meal itself over a trip to Topolino’s Terrace or ‘Ohana, given the options. The quality of the food was good, but the flavors didn’t blow us away.

REVIEW: Why Space Snacks Look Awfully Familiar at the Star Wars Hotel in Disney World

Are there Mickey ice cream bars in space? Do Jedi in training get to snack between lessons? What if I just want to spend my time in space eating as many treats as humanly possible — what is there to munch on? You’ve got space food questions, we’ve got ANSWERS!

Star Wars Hotel Entrance

The newest immersive & interactive experience — Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser (a.k.a. the Star Wars Hotel) — is about to open at Disney World. We got a special look at this entire experience thanks to a media sailing we were invited to and we’ve been sharing ALL the information you need to know. From full reviews of lunch, dinner, and breakfast, to details about the rooms and more — we’ve got you covered. Right now we’re tackling something VERY important when it comes to this space trip — snacks!

Star Wars Hotel Basics

Before we get into our review of these snack items, let’s go over some Star Wars Hotel basics. While we call it a “hotel,” the Galactic Starcruiser is more of a cruise-type experience. It is an all-inclusive, immersive, and interactive 2-night experience that lets you live out the Star Wars story of your dreams.

Galactic Starcruiser

After checking in to the Star Wars hotel, you’ll get the chance to train with a lightsaber, operate the ship’s defense system, talk to characters from the Star Wars universe, and make decisions that’ll affect the rest of your experience on the ship.

So Much to Do!

There’s also an excursion to Batuu and (of course) lots of dining to enjoy. All of your meals are included in the cost of the trip (which isn’t cheap to be fair). Note, though, that there are certain things you’ll need to pay extra for (like the Captain’s Table experience and some other items). Each day you’ll get breakfast, lunch, and dinner included. We’ve got full reviews of each that we’ll be sharing with you.

Crown of Corellia Dining Room

But what if you get hungry between meals? Even a Resistance fighter, scoundrel, or First Order sympathizer has to snack right? RIGHT! Getting hangry in space is still a thing so to cure that there are a variety of snacks available (and fully included in the cost of your stay) throughout your trip. Let’s take a look at them here!

Drinks

Did you even go on the Starcruiser if you didn’t drink your weight in blue and green milk? Okay, maybe you don’t want to drink your weight in those items, but you CAN get an essentially endless supply of both blue and green milk during your stay. The milk is available as self-serve during breakfast and lunch times, but even if you want it later on in the day, just ask a Cast Member and they’ll grab you some.

Blue and Green Milk

While the flavor of these milks is basically the same as what you’ll find on Batuu, we did find that they weren’t quite as cold up in space. Hmmm…maybe it’s a gravity thing? On the Star Wars Hotel, the blue and green milks had more of a milk consistency, rather than that more frozen/icee-type texture in Galaxy’s Edge.

Blue and Green Milk on tap

In terms of other drinks, we also had a non-alcoholic Pomegranate Lemonade in the Atrium on the first evening of our trip as part of the Captain’s toast. We didn’t see this available as a complimentary during the rest of our visit, so it may be a special treat just for that event.

Snacks

In addition to the drinks, there are also some all-day snacks available. These are located at a stand near the central atrium space, and we saw them out from early afternoon until around dinner time. These snacks are mostly individually packaged and available for you to just easily grab and take with you on your adventure. On Day 1, you could get whole fruit, like mandarin oranges and bananas.

Whole Fruit

There were also raspberry rice krispies, which tasted like normal rice krispies with an artificial fruit flavoring. These were pretty good, but not mind-blowing.

Raspberry Rice Krispies

For a savory option, you could opt for the Parmesan Cheese Crisps.

Parma Cheese Bites

Or you can go for the treats like these Gormaandas Cake Bites, which are essentially cake pops!

Cake Pops

Who knew that trend made it all the way to space?

Gormaandas Cake Bite

One of our favorite things here was the double chocolate cookie. This is one of the only must-try snacks in our opinion, since most of the other snacks were just OK.

Double Chocolate Cookie

You could also get a takeaway container of Crispy Cornbread Sticks

Crispy Cornbread Bar

…or serve yourself some chocolate candy or trail mix.

Candy and Trail Mix

On Day 2, the snack stand looked a little bit different. The whole fruit options and raspberry rice krispies were the same, but there were some new options available.

Snacks

First up, there was trail mix and goldfish crackers available in a large dispenser where you can serve yourself.

Trail Mix and Goldfish

Some dried fruit was also available in little grab-and-go containers.

Dried Fruit

There was also some cheesy popcorn available. It appears the divisive Kat Saka’s Kettle Mix didn’t quite make it onto the snack stand, but it might pop up somewhere else during your Star Wars hotel stay (just a little foreshadowing for you there).

Popcorn

This time, in addition to the raspberry rice krispies, you could also get rice krispie Asteroid Balls.

Rice Krispie Asteroid Balls

Or you could try the Cookie Star Wars Cruiser Pills.

Cookies

These were sort of like shortbread cookies.

Overall

Overall, the snacks in space were…alright. Most of them were fairly standard — especially with things like the trail mix and nuts.

Popcorn and snacks

There’s nothing wrong with them and they weren’t BAD, but they also weren’t incredibly delicious or really unique. We wish they had either been more uniquely designed or featured more distinctive flavors. But if you’re looking for a snack while on the Starcruiser, you’ve got a few solid options that’ll hold you over until it’s blue shrimp time.

Blue Shrimp

And don’t forget that you can also go to the Sublight Lounge for complimentary snacks (which were quite a bit better than the grab-and-go options if you ask us). The lounge is also open late, so even if the snack bar isn’t available, you can still get a midnight snack.

The Sublight Lounge

If you have special dietary needs or allergies, be sure to follow the appropriate steps before and/or during your cruise to let the staff know so they can address that. Click here to see what you need to do ahead of your trip to address those special dietary needs.

Let the Cast Members know if you need something!

FULL REVIEW: Is the Captain’s Table Worth the EXTRA MONEY at the Star Wars Hotel in Disney World?

Want to take your Star Wars Hotel experience to the NEXT LEVEL? Want that VIP-style treatment? Want to sit at the center of everything and get access to an exclusive experience? Get ready.

Galactic Starcruiser

There’s a lot about the new Star Wars Hotel (Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser) that already feels very exclusive. First of all, there’s the big price tag that comes with a stay there, making it an exclusive experience in of itself. And some special experiences onboard like lightsaber training, Sabacc tournaments, and the perks guests get on Batuu, make it feel even more special. But there’s one experience that actually is quite exclusive since only a handful of guests staying at the Star Wars Hotel will get to experience it each night at the hotel. We investigated to see if this bonus experience is worth the extra cost and whether you should add it to your itinerary if you’re visiting this new hotel.

The exclusive experience that we’re referring to is dinner at the Captain’s Table in the Crown of Corellia Dining Room. This dining room hosts ALL guests during dinner at the Star Wars hotel. A standard dinner here is included in the cost of your trip, but if you pay an extra $30 (plus tax) per person, you can eat at a special table during one night of your stay.

Captain’s Table

What’s so special about this Captain’s Table experience versus the regular dinner service? And since you’re already paying pretty high prices to be at the Galactic Starcruiser in the first place, is it worth the $30 upcharge to eat at this table? Let’s find out.

Atmosphere

This Captain’s Table experience takes place in the Crown of Corellia Dining Room, which is the same place where you’ll have all of your other meals during your visit (unless you have lunch at Galaxy’s Edge during your excursion to Batuu or choose to grab a to-go option at the Sublight Lounge for select meals).

Crown of Corellia

The dining room has some pretty impressive light fixtures on the ceiling…

WOW

…as well as more lights along the walls.

A Look Inside the Space

Most of the seating is standard tables and chairs, and there are also some booths along the walls. This dining room has different levels. The various levels allow more guests to see the entertainment, which takes place up on a stage in the front of the room (and also makes its way around the room!).

Inside the Dining Room

As guests at the Captain’s Table, you’ll have a prime view of this entertainment. The table is located in the middle of the room, towards the front. Plus you might just get a visit from the Captain herself! During our trip, the Captain showed up briefly and chatted with the table, but then she got called away on business! (Duty calls!)

During night 2 we weren’t seated at the Captain’s Table but we did see the First Order Lieutenant stop by the Captain’s Table and chat with guests there before the Captain came and got into a bit of an argument with him about control over the ship. DRAMA FOLKS. DRAMA EVERYWHERE.

The Captain!

This table has special lighting underneath and a large display stand in the middle. The chairs are the same as the rest of the chairs in the room. They’re made of a blue vinyl material on the seat and a velvety material on the back. You’ll find gold accents on both the chairs and tables here.

THE Captain’s Table

When you sit down, you’ll find a beautiful napkin display and specialty drinks menu on top of your charger plate to set the scene. This is the Captain’s Table, after all, so you’ve GOT to be FANCY! Pinkies up!

Table Setting

After you sit, you’ll also get a special hand towel that “grows” and expands when placed in water! You’ll get to use this to clean off your hands and get ready to enjoy a fancy space meal.

Gotta Stay Clean in Space!

From these seats, you’ll be located close to the stage where galactic superstar and diva Gaya will be singing to entertain the guests. Her accompanist Ouannii may also be present and performing there. Be prepared for them to take a stroll around the room and really get interactive with the guests!

Hey There Gaya!

You just never know what might happen, especially if someone from the First Order gets involved! Other entertainment could also interrupt your meal. Your time at the hotel is an immersive experience within a Star Wars story, and it doesn’t pause for mealtimes! You may see characters wandering (or running) through the dining room while you eat, so keep those eyes open and be ready to snap a pic or simply be a part of the story!

Gaya and the First Order Officer

So what makes the Captain’s Table so special? For starters, as we mentioned, the location of the seating is unique. It’s right near the center and more toward the front of the larger space, giving you a great view of the action. Plus, since you’re at the special table, you may have the Captain come around and chat with you.

Note that seating here is for the whole group that has paid for the experience for that night. That means you’ll be seated with other guests, so just keep that in mind.

Lots of Entertainment to See

But another thing that makes this space unique is the FOOD.

Eats and Drinks

Some of the food at the Captain’s Table is the same as the standard dinner offered here. But a few dishes are very different! The main thing is that guests at this table will get to try extra courses that are not available to other visitors. Let’s take a look.

Menu

When seated at the Captain’s Table, you’ll get a special menu just for your experience. During our media preview event, we were seated at the Captain’s Table on night 1. Note that the food and experience may be very different on your “sailing” and it can vary depending on what night you visit.

Full Captain’s Table Menu

As part of the Captain’s Table experience, you get to enjoy ALL of the offerings within the six courses presented to the Table. This includes a First Taste, Bento Experience, Intermezzo, Chandrila Chef’s Selections, Dessert, and a Decadent Finale.

A Closer Look

In terms of what you can ONLY get at the Captain’s Table, these are the offerings exclusive to this dining experience: The Amuse Bouche (First Taste); the Intermezzo; the additional protein provided to the table (during our meal it was the Lee Romay Seared Scallop listed on the menu above, but based on our understanding it might be Lobster Tail on some nights); and an additional dessert. We’ll discuss these a bit more below.

Also included in the Captain’s Table is some complimentary champagne for the Captain’s toast! The celebrations never stop in space!

Raise Your Glass!

Also included in the Captain’s Table is a complimentary red or white wine pairing with your meal.

White Wine Pairing

If you’re traveling with little ones and planning to sit at the Captain’s Table, no worries. There is a Younglings Menu available at the Crown of Corellia Dining Room, and it is one you can also enjoy at the Captain’s Table (we were able to try these options during our meal there so we’ll share ALL of our thoughts on that soon!).

Younglings Menu

In addition to the Captain’s Table six-course meal and the Younglings options, there are also specialty cocktails and specialty non-alcoholic cocktails you can get with any meal at the Crown of Corellia Dining Room (including when at the Captain’s Table).

Specialty Cocktails Menu

These are an additional cost. And as we mentioned there is a red/white wine pairing for those at the Captain’s Table which is included in the experience.

Drinks

During our meal, we grabbed the Blue Milk Citrus Fizz. This drink is non-alcoholic and costs an additional $8. It features lychee, lime lemon-lime soda, and blue milk sorbet. We also tried this over at the Cantina Chronicles event in the Sublight Lounge.

The sorbet at the bottom was interesting — it didn’t quite melt or disintegrate in the drink, but instead just sat there. Overall, this drink was fine and sort-of tasted like a concentrated version (in terms of flavor) of the blue milk, with a more juice-like sensation instead of milk. It was very sweet and did have that mint flavor to it that you taste at the end (like what you get with the regular blue milk).

Blue Milk Fizz!

You can also get the Muja Twist here for $8, which is another non-alcoholic drink. We also tried this one over at the Cantina Chronicles event in the Sublight Lounge. The drink is made with watermelon, herbal garden blend, mint, and sparkling bubbles.

The story with this one is that it is a truth-telling beverage. If you’re lying, you’ll find the drink too sweet, making it difficult to speak. But if you find the drink to be bittersweet, it means you’ve got pure intentions in making your deal! This drink wasn’t our favorite, but it did have more of a tart flavor and was very aromatic.

Muja Twist

During our time at the Captain’s Table, we also grabbed the Pod Chaser. This is basically an Old Fashioned. It costs $15 and is made with bourbon, bitters, and orange zest. The Old Fashioned was sweeter than some other drinks we’d had, but the alcohol flavor did come through more than some other drinks. It had that chilled metallic sphere in it to keep it cold, which was pretty neat. And there were hints of orange, which we really liked. Overall it was a solid drink but nothing tremendously special.

Pod Chaser

During another meal at the Crown of Corellia, we also grabbed the Dagobah Vimlet. We wanted to include it here as well so you could get our full thoughts (since it’s also available at dinner on night 1). This drink is priced at $15 and features vodka, herbaceous orange liqueur, lime, and peppercorn. It is basically a take on a vodka gimlet.

This drink gave us strong swamp vibes. Yes, you read that right. SWAMP. It was really herbaceous and the peppercorn came through in a big way. For some, that grassy, earthy flavor might not be ideal. But if you do like herby flavors and drinks, this is the one for you!

Dagobah Vimlet

During another meal at the Star Wars Hotel, we also grabbed an Espresso Martini at the Crown of Corellia at an additional charge. Though we didn’t grab it on night one (and you may not find it listed on the menu), it may be something you’ll be able to get on night one — just be sure to ask a Cast Member! Since it’s something you may be able to get on night 1 here, we wanted to quickly include our thoughts in this review.

This had a strong coffee flavor as well as a strong vodka flavor. If you’re looking for a solid Espresso Martini option, this delivers.

Espresso Martini

Remember that guests at the Captain’s Table are also provided with Champagne, which they can then raise during the Captain’s Toast!

A Toast!

There are also red and white wine pairings available. Your servers will pour you a glass of each.

Wine Pairing

Now, let’s eat!

Food

Now that we’ve covered our drinks, let’s get to the FOOD! For our first course (the First Taste) we had the Red Fruit Pillow (note that this is something that is unique to the Captain’s Table). This is made with a soy-ginger cured tomato, avocado, and wasabi crema. Pro tip: if you see “red fruit” during your voyage, it most likely refers to tomato!

Red Fruit Pillow

This was pretty good! Our waiter told us that it was supposed to be inspired by sashimi — which you can kind-of see in it’s design in that it is a red item on top of like a white base (what would typically be some kind of fish on top of white rice). BUT this had none of the flavors of sashimi, so that’s something to keep in mind.

It mostly tasted like half of a Caprese salad! You got that tomato flavor, plus the little pillow on the bottom (which tasted like a sort-of pizza dough with a basil paste inside), so that was interesting. On top is that jellied cube. To be honest, we’re not entirely sure what the goal was for that portion of the dish but it was interesting to have that texture there. Overall, the Red Fruit Pillow was fine — it wasn’t show-stopping or something very memorable, but it was a fun way to start the meal!

Red Fruit Pillow

Next, it was time for the second course — the Bento Experience. For this course, we were provided with 3 different spiral pan-seared steamed dumplings. These were very brightly colored, making them easy to distinguish. These are served family style.

From what we experienced, we were provided with two boxes to share between 3 guests (though note that you can ask for more of whatever you want). The buns were also cut in half to make sharing a bit easier.

Bento Experience

First up we have the bright orange pod, which was the Tip Yip Chicken pod. This one was filled with sweet-and-sour shredded chicken. One of our reporters said that this was their least favorite of the three, but another one of our reporters really liked this one — so it’ll all depend on your tastes! It did deliver on that sweet-and-sour chicken flavor though, so that was nice.

Chicken Pod

Next, we have the blue pod, which was the Bantha Beef. This one was filled with braised teriyaki beef. This definitely had that heavy teriyaki flavor to it and the beef was very tender.

Bantha Beef

And finally we had the green pod which was the Flora Vegetables one. This is filled with potatoes and curry. This dumpling had a more complex flavor than the other two — likely because of those curry flavors within.

Veggie Option

Overall, one of our reporters said that the Bento Experience was actually one of the best things they had throughout the entire voyage! That same reporter shared that the dumplings were all really well cooked and packed with flavor!

The items were true to the flavors described on the menu (i.e. the teriyaki beef truly captured that flavor, and the sweet-and-sour chicken one really encapsulated that flavor well). If we didn’t have to eat a bunch of other things on that same night, we easily would have asked for and devoured more of them!

Bento Options

And what makes them even better is that these pods all came with a variety of “interplanetary dipping sauces” for us to dip them into! One of our reporters shared that they felt like ALL of these sauces were good!

The Sauces

The sauces were: Kaadu Cream (Sweet and creamy). This was essentially a Yum Yum sauce and went really well with all of the dumplings! It was very mild in flavor and really tasty.

Kaadu Cream

There was also a Melahnese Curry (Yogurt Dip). This definitely had more of that curry flavor to it, though one of our reporters shared that they felt like this one didn’t stand out as much as the others.

Curry

You can also grab the Batuu Spice (spicy aromatic condiment). This was actually one of our reporter’s favorite sauces! They shared that it was very spicy, aromatic, and complex. The flavors really melded well with the flavors of the dumplings in a great way. If you’re a fan of spicy foods (and jalapeños!) you might just find yourself feeling like you could eat this one with a SPOON!

Batuu Spice

Lastly, there was a Barbecue-style sauce (a Gochujang-laced sauce). This was a pretty standard barbecue sauce, although that Gochujang did add a more chili vibe to it, which we liked.

Barbecue Style

This course also came with a Flora Noodle Salad, which is a chilled salad of yellow beets, diakon, onion, carrots, and white miso vinaigrette. This dish tasted how you’d probably expect. It had a picked vegetable vibe overall. That pickled/more acidic and light flavor went well with the dumplings, which were a bit heavier on their own. While the salad might not be so memorable on its own, we did think it was a great addition to the Bento Experience overall.

Noodles

The entire Bento Experience was something we really enjoyed with the dumplings coupled with the sauces and the salad.

Then it was time for course 3 — the Intermezzo (again, note that this is something that is unique to the Captain’s Table). For our Intermezzo, we were given a Miso Shooter, which was made of a Warm Miso Broth and crispy Tofu. This was alright. One of our reporters (who claims to be a bit of a connoisseur when it comes to miso!) said that they weren’t really a fan of the miso broth and found it to be a bit off-putting in terms of how it was served.

The bowl is essentially filled with a salt, and then the miso is in that shooter, with the tofu skewered on top. The word “shooter” might make you feel like you’ve got to down this bad boy all at once, but some might not really want to drink miso soup that way (at least, we didn’t really want to). So that was also a bit strange. If you like miso soup, you’ll probably like it, but it might not be something you love or something that’ll “wow” you.

Miso Shooter

Next, course 4 was up — the Chandrila Chef’s Selections. These are served family-style for all guests to share and enjoy. The Chef’s selections for our dinner included a few different offerings.

First, we have the Bantha Beef Tenderloin. This is a Tamarind-glazed beef served with crushed moon-rock potatoes. One of our reporters shared that this was probably one of the BEST things they ate in the entire Star Wars Hotel. They said that it was basically a perfectly cooked cut of steak that sliced easily and wasn’t chewy or anything like that. The meat was super juicy and FULL of flavor!

Bantha Beef

And the potatoes served with it aren’t something you should ignore! We went into this dish expecting them to be pretty basic potatoes in terms of flavors, but they totally surprised us! The potatoes had more savory and spicy flavors than we anticipated, and they were fantastic. We don’t think the spices in the potatoes are anything that picky eaters should be worried about though — they were accessible but still delicious!

Bantha Beef

Then we had the Tip Yip Chicken. This is Menkooro Bourbon-glazed chicken with red peppers and sesame seeds (Menkooro Whiskey is a bourbon from the Star Wars universe). One of our reporters really liked this! It was essentially an Asian-style, lightly fried chicken. It doesn’t necessarily look like anything special at first glance, but we thought it was really good! We still feel like the steak is better, but this is a solid option that a lot of palettes will likely enjoy.

Chicken

Then we have the Lee Rosemary Seared Scallop, which features a creamy sauce and sesame seeds. (Note that this protein is EXCLUSIVE to the Captain’s Table offering and can vary — based on our understanding, it may be Lobster Tail on some nights). This was a fine option, but not really something that made us drop our lightsabers to run and get more.

The sauce was nice and savory. We also liked that the sauce had some depth in terms of flavor — you could tell that the scallops hadn’t just been cooked in butter. The scallops themselves were also cooked really well and weren’t chewy at all. If you like scallops, this is one you’ll probably like!

Scallops

We also got to munch on some Stewed Shrimp which is made with lemongrass, lobster cream, and coconut-lime foam. We really enjoyed this one! If your idea of a good shrimp dish is shrimp served in a savory and creamy sauce, then these will be something you’ll like a lot.

The shrimp is served warm, which was nice, though we didn’t get a strong coconut flavor. It was more savory than sweet, which wasn’t a problem for us (in other words, don’t let the coconut scare you off!).

Stewed Shrimp

There were also some side dishes to go along with the meat and seafood options. First, we tried the Green Herbed Fluffy Rice with puffed rice crisp. One of our reporters shared that they really liked this dish, but did note that they are a rice lover and would probably love anything on rice — so if you’re like them and you love ALL things rice, then you might really enjoy this!

It has cilantro and some other herbs in it, making it very herb-y in terms of flavor. If you hate cilantro, then be warned, because that flavor definitely does come through here.

Fluffy Rice!

There were also some Surabat Spiced Flora, which were vegetables with Harissa Spice. These were nicely seasoned vegetables. The Harissa spice was wonderful and they made the veggies really tasty! The spices and veggies are a bit more unique, but we still feel like the Harissa itself isn’t something picky eaters should be too concerned about.

Time for Some Veggies

And now the good stuff — dessert! For course 5 (the regular dessert) there was Jogan Fruit and Caramel Whip. This was made with yuzu, passionfruit, and Cardellia Jelly. This dessert was alright, but didn’t really impress us. The passionfruit was a good touch — adding a bit of tartness — but overall it wasn’t anything tremendously special.

So Pretty!

Here’s a peek at the inside.

Jogan Fruit Dessert

And for course 6 (exclusive to Captain’s Table) there’s a Umi-Yumi Chocolate with caramel and yuzu. While the outside looks fairly plain, it’s the inside that’ll really surprise you!

Umi Yumi

Ummm…Nickelodeon called and they want their slime back! 😂 In all seriousness, while the green color is unique, one of our reporters said that the dessert as a whole was really good! The flavors were pretty surprising. One of our reporters really liked this but warned that the unique flavors might not be for everyone. The main flavor that came through was that chocolate, but then the inside had the more surprising combination of yuzu and caramel, which made for an explosion of flavor!

If you’re the type of person who likes more surprising flavors, then we think you’ll like this! And even if you’re not a huge fan of being surprised by your food flavors, you’ll want to make sure you grab a photo of the inside of this one since it is so bright and colorful!

Umi Yumi

And we can’t forget about the kids’ menu items! For passengers 9 and under (including those that sit at the Captain’s Table), there is a Younglings Menu. From our understanding, kids should be able to order as much as they want off of this menu, but be sure to see what rules are in place when you visit.

Also note that while the menu is for kids, adults may also be able to sample some items off of this menu. The Star Wars Hotel may not always be able to accommodate that request, but it doesn’t hurt to ask (’cause some of this stuff is pretty good!).

The choices for kids’ appetizers include a Flora Greens Salad with baby mozzarella, tomatoes, carrots, and ranch dressing; or you can get a fruit cup. There are also Flora Rice Paper Rolls which are vegetable summer rolls with sweet-and-sour sauce. This was tasty! It’s essentially just fresh vegetables in rice paper. It wasn’t anything dramatically special, but if you want something light to add on top of your meal, it might be worth ordering off of the kids’ menu!

Kids Rice Paper Roll

For entrees, the Younglings options include Grilled Tip Yip Chicken Swords, which are served with sweet-and-sour sauce. Or you can opt for Fried Tip Yip Chicken Chunks, or a Cheese Pizza. Chedd-Cheesy Beef Spiral Dumplings are also available. For the sides, they have the options of steamed green beans, buttered noodles, steamed carrot spirals, a fruit cup, or crispy sliced waffle fries. Yes, you heard it here folks — there are WAFFLE FRIES in space!

Overall, the kids’ menu items featured some pretty familiar flavors done up in a fun way for young ones. The chicken might have been shaped strangely, but they tasted really well. The cheese pizza was pretty standard Disney puffy pizza. The sauce might have been a little bit more unique/flavorful than what we see in the parks, but overall it’s that same ole puffy pizza from places like PizzeRizzo that your kid knows and (likely) loves.

Kids Menu Items

During night 2, we also got the chance to try the Chedd-Cheesy Beef Spiral Dumplings and waffle fries. The waffle fries were surprisingly big and tasted pretty good! But the beef spiral dumpling was the STAR. Friends, this was basically the same as the cheeseburger pods over at Satu’li Canteen in Disney’s Animal Kingdom, except maybe a bit cheesier! If you have any questions, we’ll be in cheeseburger pod heaven…floating into the universe. Please leave all questions at the beep. Beeeeeeeep.

CHEESEBURGER PODS?! IS THAT YOU?!

Okay, we’re back! 😂 For the kids’ dessert, the featured dessert for our first night was Jogan Fruit and Caramel Whip with yuzu, passionfruit, and Cardellia Jelly (essentially the same as the adults). There was also a fruit salad available, which was served with a baked Masa-flatbread cone and vanilla yogurt. Or kiddos could grab warm cookies and white milk. A classic.

Nosh or Not

Spend the extra buck to dine at this exclusive experience if you:

  • You’re looking to be in the center of the action. The seating here really puts you front and center in terms of entertainment. If that’s something that is important to you, then you could splurge a bit to sit here, at the heart of it all. Some regular tables are also located near this area, but tables are generally assigned so you never know what spot you’ll get (though one Cast Member told us that you can certainly ask and see if your table assignment can be changed, but nothing is guaranteed).
  • You’re looking to eat ALL you can eat at the Star Wars Hotel. If you’re determined to try every single snack and meal item you can get at the Star Wars Hotel, then you won’t want to miss out on taking advantage of this and trying some exclusive offerings.
  • You’re an adventurous eater. A Miso Shooter and a Red Fruit Pillow are probably things you’ve never tried before. If you’re looking to fill up, eat some extra courses, and try some adventurous items, this could be a good fit for you.

Skip this experience and have a normal dinner in the Crown of Corellia Dining Room if you:

  • You want to take a back seat to the action. If you’d rather sit a bit further away from the stage and the main area where the action is, then you might want to skip this.
  • You’re a picky eater or are traveling with one. The Captain’s Table-exclusive offerings, like that Miso Shooter and other items, aren’t exactly made for those seeking chicken and fries. If you’re not an adventurous eater, then you might want to skip out on that.
  • You’re on a tighter budget. The Star Wars Hotel is expensive enough as it is, adding on $30 per person for another experience might just not fit the budget. If that’s the case, you can skip this extra activity and just stick to the regular dinner.

Overall

Overall, the Captain’s Table is a fun opportunity for adventurous eaters and those looking to take their Star Wars Hotel experience to the next level. But it’s not necessary by any means. Those in the dining room will still get to enjoy much of the same food (minus a few exclusive offerings) and still get to see all of the entertainment as well. In our opinion, some of the best items (the Bento Experience and most of the Chandrila Chef’s Selections) are still available in the standard dining room, so the up-charge might not be worth it.

Captain

BUT we can’t deny that it feels special to be sitting in the center of the action and even (perhaps) get a visit from the Captain. So it’s up to you whether you feel like this bonus experience is worth a little extra cash.

The post FULL REVIEW: Is the Captain’s Table Worth the EXTRA MONEY at the Star Wars Hotel in Disney World? first appeared on the disney food blog.

The BEST Food Is HIDING at the Star Wars Hotel in Disney World

RUN. 🏃 We repeat, RUN, DO NOT WALK, to THIS special Star Wars Hotel spot if you really want to be in a foodie paradise. Forget the blue shrimp. Forget the colorful dumplings. There’s one spot in the Star Wars Hotel that is a true hidden gem when it comes to snacks, and we’ve got ALL the details you need to know.

Galactic Starcruiser

Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser (a.k.a. the Star Wars Hotel) opens in just a few days in Disney World and will be full of unique experiences, including a bar/lounge (called the Sublight Lounge) that is very different than the bars you’ve been to before. We got the chance to experience this bar/lounge and much more during a special media preview of the ship and we’ve been taking you along with us for the adventure. Now we’re turning our focus to the Sublight Lounge and all it has to offer. Is this spot one you can’t miss during your starcruiser experience or one you could totally skip? Let’s find out.

Star Wars Hotel 101

Before we begin our full review of the Sublight Lounge, we do want to give a quick Starcruiser overview. If you’re unfamiliar with it, the Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser is a 2-night immersive and interactive experience. During the experience, you’ll sleep on the Starcruiser in special space cabins, train with a lightsaber, learn how to operate the ship’s defenses, choose what side to support (Resistance? First Order? Just wanna be a scoundrel out for yourself?), and live your Star Wars story.

Star Wars Hotel

The experience is PRICEY though, so be prepared to break open a couple of piggy banks. We’ve shared full reviews of the meals on the ship (which are included in the cost, except for certain special experiences like the Captain’s Table) and now we’re turning our attention to the BAR!

Note that while the food items at the bar/lounge are included in the cost of your trip, most of the beverages will all be an additional cost. Things like water or soda are available at the bar free of charge, but specialty drinks will cost you extra.

Atmosphere

You’ve seen the famous cantinas in the Star Wars films and visited Oga’s Cantina (and maybe you’re pumped to visit Star Wars Hyperspace Lounge on the Disney Wish) but now it’s time to visit a VERY unique lounge — the Sublight Lounge!

Sublight Lounge

This lounge is located on Deck 6 of the Starcruiser. At all points of the day and night, guests of all ages can come in and enjoy the space (a.k.a. there are no age restrictions at any point during the trip).

There is a bar on one side of the room…

Bar Area (With Some Breakfast Items)

as well as some tables and booths scattered throughout.

Seating

The theming here is meant to be “inspired by the Halcyon starcruiser’s historic voyages throughout the galaxy.” Things are pretty modern and there are some great pops of color with neon signs and more. But there is also a darker, “cooler” vibe here than you’ll find in other parts of the ship.

The Sublight Lounge

It definitely feels like the place where a space scoundrel could make a deal with a bounty hunter, or a fight could break out if someone offers to sell some death sticks to a Jedi (note: you do not want to sell a Jedi (or anyone) death sticks).

Sublight Lounge

This spot is also home to the one and only holo-sabacc table. And when we say one and only, we mean ONE and only.

There’s only a SINGLE holo-sabacc table available throughout the entire Starcruiser and it’s here. As you might imagine, holo-sabacc (which fans will recognize from Solo) is a popular game. You can even get the sabacc cards in Galaxy’s Edge to play it at home!

Sabacc!

If you don’t feel the need to play the holo version, you can play table sabacc on any lounge table. You can even play it in the atrium area if you ask a crew member! But holo-sabacc is pretty neat! During our initial trip on the Starcruiser, we were there as part of a media event, meaning things were likely a bit different and guest capacity was more limited than it would be on a regular cruise. Cast Members were monitoring the table and people were pretty good at getting up after their game was done, to let others have a chance to play.

So while we didn’t really have a hard time getting the chance to play on the holo-sabacc table, we do think that guests during regular sailings might be in a tougher spot. There are only so many things you can do on the ship (particularly as it gets later into the night) so we could see this becoming quite the busy spot.

Sublight Lounge

Our advice? If holo-sabacc isn’t a priority and it’s busy, consider asking Cast Members for some regular sabacc cards so you can still learn how to play. The Cast Members will help you learn the game, so don’t be worried about that!

If playing on the holo-sabacc table specifically is important to you, try to visit this spot during times when it might be emptier (like when half of the ship goes to their assigned dinner time).

Anyone Up for a Game?

In terms of a pure vibe/atmosphere perspective, we’d say this spot is at least worth a quick visit. It’s really unique and fun and you may even spot a few “in-world” characters walking around and chatting with guests (all a part of the overarching story). In fact, one Storm Trooper even HELPED us win a game of sabacc at one point. Are we part of the Dark Side now?!?!

Alright though, enough about the atmosphere, let’s get into the food and drinks!

Eats & Drinks

Breakfast

At the Sublight Lounge, you can sometimes find some quick bites for breakfast which you can just grab and take with you (in case you don’t want to stop by the Crown of Corellia Dining Room for the full breakfast buffet spread). We’ve shared a FULL review of breakfast (both at the Crown of Corellia and with the to-go options here) so be sure to check that out for more info!

Grab-and-Go

Menu

Aside from the to-go breakfast options, at the Sublight Lounge, you can get some specialty alcoholic drinks. There are also some snacks available here. We’ll get back to those in a minute. First, the drinks! Here’s a look at one side of the specialty cocktails menu.

Sublight Lounge Menu

There are also non-alcoholic drinks, sparkling wine, and beer and wine on tap.

Drinks

In terms of the non-alcoholic drinks, the Yeruda Poison Spitter Drop was available for $7. This drink features limeade, yuzu sour, and a Petrichor dispersion. We actually got to try this drink (and the one below) as part of a special activity called the Cantina Chronicles.

During this event, guests can sample some non-alcoholic cocktails (for FREE!) and learn more about them thanks to a knowledgeable mixologist. It’s a fun way to sample even more drinks in this space and learn more about their story.

Poison Spitter

For starters, we have to say, don’t worry about the “poison” in the Poison Spitter. They actually work on producing the antidote for you! As the story goes, the Poison Spitter drink is from Felucia and is a drink of peace. Individuals are known to settle arguments by drinking this. The ingredients used for the drink come from the poison spitter, which is a plant, animal, and a fungus!

The poison is IN the drink, but as we mentioned, they make the antidote for you so no worries (just make sure you wait to drink it until they’ve got that antidote ready! 😉). According to our reporter, this drink tasted like…plants? We definitely got some really strong grassy, earthy vibes from this one. Not for us, but if you like those flavors then give it a try!

Poison Spitter

We also got to try the Muja Twist during our special tasting event, but it is available for $8 regularly at Sublight Lounge. This drink is made with watermelon, herbal garden blend, mint, and sparkling bubbles.

This is said to be a truth telling beverage. If you’re lying, the drink will be too sweet to let you speak. But if it’s bittersweet, that means you’ve got pure intentions in making your deal! Out of the several non-alcoholic drinks we tried during the Cantina Chronicles, this was actually one of our reporter’s favorites (though they weren’t really a big fan of it and wouldn’t go out of their way for it). It had more of a tart flavor to it and was very aromatic.

Muja Twist

During our trip, we also tried some specialty alcoholic drinks here. First up is the Hoth Icebreaker. This drink costs $18 and is made with vodka, lemon, pure cane sugar, and a vanilla-lemon foam.

Our Drink!

This drink is basically akin to a lemon drop. It has a strong lemon and citrus-y flavor to it, but is also very sweet. In fact, we think it’s sweeter than what a normal lemon drop would be.

Would You Like Some of Our Drink Alien Friend?

While at the Sublight Lounge, we also got the Cloud of Bespin Drink, priced at $15. This drink is made with rum, lemon, orgeat (almond), passion fruit, and Falernum-lemon foam.

This drink had a bit of sour taste from the lemon, but was also fruity (thanks to that passion fruit) and very yummy! Truthfully, we couldn’t taste a strong difference between this one and the Hoth Icebreaker. It had a strong citrus-y flavor and was (again) very sweet.

Bespin Drink

While we were at the Sublight Lounge, we also grabbed a Fiery Mustafarian. This drink is priced at $17 and is made with Anejo Tequila, mezcal, stone fruit, lime, chili, and black salt. Oh and the best part? It’s served with “Lava Extract,” which you then pour into your drink!

Fiery Mustafarian

Our reporter who tried this said it was probably their FAVORITE drink on board. It was interesting and delicious! The drink mostly tasted like a spicy and smoky margarita. The tube you see in the image above is the “lava” which is actually chili sauce. You pour that into your drink, which is nice because it means you can have as much or as little chili flavor as you’d like. Note that we were also able to purchase the cup it’s served in (the souvenir cup), which is basically a little glass bowl on a little stand.

Fiery Mustafarian

During our dinner at the Captain’s Table in the Crown of Corellia Dining Room on night 1 we also got to try the Pod Chaser (essentially an Old Fashioned), which is also available at Sublight Lounge for $15. The drink features bourbon, bitters, and orange zest.

Overall, the Pod Chaser was a bit more on the sweeter side compared to other drinks we had, but we did taste the alcohol. The drink has a chilled metallic sphere in it to help keep the drink cold, and the look of that really made the drink more fun and interesting. It was a solid Old Fashioned, but nothing terribly unique.

Pod Chaser

During another part of our trip (while at the Crown of Corellia Dining Room) we also got to try the Dagobah Vimlet, but we wanted to make sure we included it here so you could get our full thoughts (since it is also something you can get at Sublight Lounge). At Sublight Lounge, you can get this drink for $15. It is made with vodka, herbaceous orange liqueur, lime, and peppercorn, and is essentially like a vodka gilmet.

This drink tasted like a swamp…but in a good way? Okay, okay that might sound weird but hear us out! It was very herbaceous and you could definitely taste that peppercorn. If you like herby flavors and drinks (and the idea of your drink smelling like earth and grass is a good thing), then we think you’ll really enjoy this. If you’d rather your drink not smell like you just cut your lawn, then stay away!

Dagobah Vimlet

During dinner on night 2 at the Crown of Corellia Dining Room we also grabbed an Espresso Martini at an additional cost. Though it might not be listed on the menu at that spot or in the Sublight Lounge, be sure to check and see if it’s available. Since you might be able to get this drink here as well, we wanted to quickly include it in our review.

Overall, the Espresso Martini was a solid Espresso Martini. It had a strong coffee flavor, as well as a strong vodka flavor. The two together worked well and it was a nice pick-me-up at the end of a long day spent in space.

Espresso Martini

What if you don’t want a space-y drink? What if you’re just looking for a Jack and Coke? You can get that too! At the bar, you can ask the bartenders to whip up a drink for you based on what you want. Keep in mind that they are limited to whatever bottles of alcohol or other ingredients they have on hand, but there is the ability to get some of those more standard drink options if that’s what you prefer.

Snacks

When it comes to snacks, you’ll find a few different options here including Mustafar Tuber Chips, Crispy-dried Green Beans, a Little Flatbread, and more.

Food Menu

We’ll start with the Smoked Redfish Littletubes. These are made of Felucian gardenleaf and redfish roe. These were pretty tasty and had a LOT of fishy flavor to them. It wasn’t overbearing in terms of fishy flavor (like in a gross way or anything) but the fishy flavor was there.

One of our reporters shared that they really enjoyed these, but wasn’t sure if they’d order them again. But since it is included in the cost of your trip, so it doesn’t hurt to try them (as long as you don’t feel like they’ll go to waste).

The Littletubes

If you like fish dip, this could be a good pick, as it felt like a cream cheese-based fish dip in cannoli form (that sounds confusing but it was good!). You do get that roe flavor though. Basically, if you don’t like fish and roe, this will be a definite SKIP for you.

Would You Try Them?

Next up we have the Mustafar Tuber Chips. These are chips that are dusted with sriracha and charcoal vinegar. According to one of our reporters, these chips were quite literally LIFE CHANGING. They were SO GOOD. Our reporters went through these chips without blinking an eye. They were thick chips (and definitely gave us homemade chip vibes) and weren’t overly oily or anything, which was great. They were very crispy, thick, and delicious!

Trust Us, Get THESE!

The chips themselves made for a really savory base. And then you add on the seasonings and it’s *chef’s kiss!* They weren’t overly vinegary or anything — they were just phenomenal. There was also a plant-based sriracha aioli served with it. Folks, when we say that we were quite literally SCRAPING the bottom of the cup that held this sauce to get out every last drop, we are not joking! It was super creamy and had just the perfect amount of heat to it. We even asked for more of it because it was THAT good.

A Must-Try

Mix that together with the seasoning on the chips and you’ve got perfection! It was one of the BEST things we had on the ship. If you like potato chips at all, we really think you’ll enjoy these, so don’t forget to give them a try!

Hello Beautiful

But we can’t forget about the Crispy-dried Green Beans! These are served with a creamy green Pearberry dip. These were pretty good! Note that in the Star Wars World, Pearberry is code for avocado. The avocado gave it the dip a nice, creamy texture, which was great. And overall that dip was pretty mild.

Green Bean Time

If you like dried green beans, this is a good choice. BUT if you want a real pro tip in terms of how to take these to the next level, listen closely. The pro move here is to dip the green beans in the dip that comes with the Mustafar Tuber Chips! So even if you don’t order the chips on their own (though we highly recommend that you do) ask for a side of the dip that comes with the chips so you can use it on…oh, I don’t know…EVERYTHING! Another pro tip: these green beans are great to use to scoop up the Smoked Cheese en Cloche (more on that below).

Just a side note — we also liked that this and the Tuber Chips were plant-based. If you’re looking for some plant-based snacks (that are more unique) while on the ship, don’t forget to stop by Sublight Lounge so you can fill up on these!

A Good Choice

Next up we have the Little Flatbread. This is made with pepperoni and a herb-vinegar sauce. We went into this item expecting a standard pepperoni pizza, but we were actually pleasantly surprised by how GOOD this was!

Flatbread

The pepperoni was flavorful, the pizza wasn’t dry, and it was a really yummy and savory snack. The pepperoni delivered on the Italian flavors we were looking for, and the pillowy pizza crust wasn’t overly doughy or soggy at all (and was perfectly crispy on the outside). Turns out they do pizza right in space. Who knew?!

Lookin’ Good!

Then it was time to dig into the Hummus and Quinoa “Meatballs.” These are plant-based and are served with pepper stew and chickpea bites. One of our reporters shared that these were good, but out of all the tasty options here, they were probably their least favorite snack from the lounge. But that doesn’t take away from the fact that they were tasty.

Our “Meatballs”

They’re essentially like falafel meatballs and really just tasted like a moist falafel (and there’s nothing wrong with that). Overall, though it was just good falafel — nothing revolutionary, but still tasty (and we liked that pepper stew on top!).

Pretty Good

During our time at the lounge, we also grabbed the Smoked Cheese en Cloche. This is made of white cheddar with bacon and jalapeño crusted in dried cheddar, black goat cheese crusted in pumpkin seeds, and smoked gouda with crushed pistachios. The presentation on this one is really special. They are covered when they first arrive.

Here it Comes!

When the cover is lifted and the cheese is revealed, smoke pours out. Very spacey. Very Instagrammable. 🚀

Much Space

The white cheddar was really good but wasn’t super sharp or anything. It basically tasted like a classic cheese ball and was good. There were also some Lavosh crackers that came with it which were quite good — very tasty and crackly, and they broke right apart. The Cast Members brought us some extras, but you could also order some extras if you want to go with your cheese. We didn’t really get a spicy jalapeño flavor though, so don’t let that scare you.

One of our reporters (who loves goat cheese) shared that their favorite cheese out of the bunch was the black goat cheese crusted in pumpkin seeds. This one looked WILD because the cheese looked green in the light and it pulls apart the way goat cheese does. Basically, it looked like we were eating alien cheese and it was WELL worth it.

What do you think?

It was a super smooth goat cheese that wasn’t overly pungent (but still delivered on that goat cheese twang). And the pumpkin seeds on the outside really helped balance the goat cheese flavors with a more mild, smoky pumpkin seed flavor. If you don’t like goat cheese though, this is one you’ll want to stay away from!

The last cheese was the smoked gouda with crushed pistachios. This was one we really enjoyed. It was a very good, soft, smoked gouda. This was a big crowd pleaser for our group. Also overall we just have to say that we feel like the team did a great job pairing the cheeses with the nuts.

Tasty!

Finally, there were also Felucian Snack Bites available. These were sort-of like rice krispies with dried chickpeas. They were pretty good and went well with the drinks we had (and they felt space-y), but we wouldn’t prioritize this over the other snacks here.

Snack Time

Nosh or Not

You should take time out of your Starcruiser day to stop by the Sublight Lounge if:

  • You want to play some Sabacc and enjoy the atmosphere. The holo-sabacc and the overall vibe of this place are fantastic. It’s unique and has this sort-of nighttime, “cool” space bar feeling to it. It’s something that (like many parts of the rest of the ship) really makes you feel like you’re IN Star Wars.
  • You want some themed space-y drinks. Many of the drinks here are ones you can find in other parts of the ship, but if you’re looking for a space-y alcoholic (or non-alcoholic drink) to get during your day, or you want some kind of custom (non-space-y drink) you can stop by here to grab one, take a seat, and just enjoy the atmosphere.
  • You want some seriously tasty snacks. We are not kidding when we say that the snacks at Sublight Lounge were some of the BEST items we had during the entire “sailing.” From the chips (that were LIFE CHANGING) to the Instagrammable cheese and that tasty pizza — we loved a bunch of the snacks here. And especially considering that these snacks are included in the cost of your trip, this is a place you’ll want to visit and come back to for the food!

You should skip the Sublight Lounge if:

  • You are looking for a bar that’ll get you out of the story. If you were hoping that the bar here would be an “escape” from the Star Wars story — a place to watch some football and leave Star Wars behind, you won’t find that. The bar is fully in story, immersed in the Starcruiser theme, and features characters and more that’ll keep you in that story while here.
  • You want more substantial food. Sublight Lounge has some small plates and snacks (which we LOVED), but it’s not exactly a full meal. If you’re looking for a full meal, you’ll want to head to the Crown of Corellia Dining Room during the designated eating times to really fill up.
  • You want a place that’s more relaxing so you can unwind. If you’re looking for a quiet space where you can just put up your feet with your drink, this isn’t exactly it. There are still characters in here interacting with guests, holo-sabacc games going on, and more activity all around. You can snag a booth to be a bit more tucked away, but if true relaxation is what you’re after, you may want to head to the outdoor space or your room for some quiet time.

Overall

Overall, for the theming alone we’d say that the Sublight Lounge is worth at least some time on your schedule. It can be hard when there are so many activities to fit into just 2 days (since you depart on the 3rd day). But it’s definitely worth checking out. The drinks won’t knock your socks off, but most of them are pretty good, albeit pretty sweet.

The snacks, on the other hand, are WORTH stopping by. Seriously, these are some of the best items we ate at Star Wars Hotel. They weren’t overly complicated, but were full of flavor and many of them are things we’d make a point to get again in the future!

FULL REVIEW: We’re Eating EVERYTHING for Lunch at the Star Wars Hotel in Disney World

We know, we know. You’ve had one big question on your mind for MONTHS now — what does lunch taste like…in SPACE?! 🚀

Dining Room

Well, we now have an answer! Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser (a.k.a. the Star Wars Hotel) is just days away from its official opening in Disney World. We recently got the chance to explore this spot as part of a media preview, and during our time aboard the spaceship, we got to do a lot of eating. We’re sharing full reviews of breakfast, dinner, and more (so be on the lookout for those) but today, we’re exploring EVERYTHING the hotel has to offer for lunch!

Star Wars Hotel Basics

For those who might not be familiar with the experience as a whole, the Star Wars Hotel is not really a hotel. It’s a 2-night immersive, cruise-type experience that allows guests to live out their own unique Star Wars stories. Fair warning though, a trip on the starcruiser will cost ya some big bucks.

Captain’s Table

During the experience, guests can take an excursion to Batuu over at Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, train with a lightsaber, learn how to operate the ship’s defenses, interact with Star Wars characters, and more.

Just chillin’ with our space friend

But, there’s one important thing everyone’s got to do in space…EAT! Most of the food offerings aboard the Star Wars hotel are included in the price of your admission (like they would be on a cruise). Lunch on the ship, for example, is fully included on both days of your trip.

Ready to eat?

An important thing to note about lunch is that for the first day, you’ll find all of the offerings on the ship (as there are no excursions on that day). On the second day of your trip, when the excursion to Batuu is planned, there will be lunch available on the ship, but there will ALSO be some included items if you’ll be down in Batuu around lunchtime.

But, we’ve eaten in Batuu many times, so let’s get into how the lunch food is on the Galactic Starcruiser!

Lunch on the Ship

Atmosphere

On Day 1, lunch was served from 1PM to 4PM, giving guests plenty of time to make their way over to the dining area to eat once they’ve boarded the ship. Lunch is served at the Crown of Corellia Dining Room, so that’s where you’ll want to head to grab a bite to eat — it’s located over on Deck 4.

Dining Room

Lunch is served buffet/cafeteria style, so you can grab exactly what you want!

Buffet area

During dinner, the Crown of Corellia has a more unique vibe, with entertainment offerings available during the meal and whatnot. But, during lunch, things are much more casual here.

Dining room at dinner

Throughout the space, you’ll find standard tables and booths available in a variety of configurations and sizes so you can find the right spot for you and your group. The chairs are a cushy blue fabric with gold accents.

Table at Crown of Corellia Dining Room

In terms of silverware, the tables are already set, so you don’t have to worry about picking any up when you go to grab your food.

Booth in the dining room

And, this is space, so the utensils look juuust a bit different!

Space utensils

Again, the lunch eats are served buffet/cafeteria style so when you’re ready to eat, you’ll head to the buffet stations to pick up your tray and start picking the things you want to grab!

Day 1 Food & Drinks

There are a lot of different options along the buffet line. Each option is essentially plated already on a little portion plate. So, all you’ll need to do is pick up as many of the small, individual serving plates as you want and put them on your tray. It’s sort-of like playing a game of Tetris — you gotta just stack up those smaller plates on your tray (and you’ve got to be strategic if you want to grab a tray full of food!).

So many things!

We already showed you the buffet line, but here’s a look at the drinks station!

Drinks station

In terms of drinks during lunch aboard the Starcruiser, you can find an endless supply of blue and green milk. The flavors are still very much the same as the ones in Galaxy’s Edge for these drinks, BUT be warned: the texture is VERY different. These blue and green milks had more of a milk consistency and less of that thicker, more icee/frosty like consistency that they have in Batuu. So that’s something you’ll want to be prepared for! We really enjoyed it.

Blue and Green Milk

There are refillable soft drinks available here, too!

Soft drinks

The silver cups are nearby for you to use.

Silver drinking cups

Looking for a specialty drink? These are available as well, but they cost extra! There are non-alcoholic drinks like the Muja Twist which is a mix of watermelon, a herbal garden blend, mint, and sparkling bubbles for $8. You can also pay extra for various alcoholic drinks during lunch. Here’s a look at the menu:

Drink menu

Remember the food and non-alcoholic drinks on the buffet line are all-you-care-to-enjoy, so you can go back up to the buffet line to get more of whatever you like or just to try more items.

Let’s eat!

Alright, now that we’ve taken a look at these items let’s get into how they taste! We’ll start with the salads. First, we tried the Green Leaf Salad, which has red quinoa, amethyst croutons, a parma-cheese round, and creamy chandrilan green vegetable dressing.

Green Leaf Salad

This was excellent! It’s just a regular salad, but it was very well made and the flavors all came together really well.

Refreshing!

The leaves were super fresh and the dressing honestly made the dish. It was savory and a bit tangy.

A little salad to kick off our meal

Next, we had the Chandrilan Salad, which has mushrooms, kale leaf, olives, squash fruit, and white berry vinegar.

Chandrilan Salad

This is basically just a big veggie blend! It was good, but it’s standard vegetables with couscous. There are a lot of mushrooms, and if you don’t like any of the other veggies in this, it’s probably not for you — because it just straight up tastes like veggies! Not bad, but nothing outstanding.

Ya gotta like veggies!

The next item we tried was the Fire Melted Cheese Takeaway with red fruit soup dipper. Fruit soup?! Yep, in space, they call tomatoes red fruit, which they technically are, so it makes sense! This is a bubble waffle grilled cheese with a side of tomato soup.

oooo this looks interesting

We loved this! It had a lot of cheese in the actual bubbles and tasted like your super buttery grilled cheese with the added benefit of the cheese and butter being able to get into all those nooks and crannies that the waffle has.

Have you ever had a grilled cheese in a waffle?

The soup was also good — it pretty much tastes like the tomato soup served all over Disney World. It was thick and we could taste the basil, which added a nice sweetness.

Red Fruit Soup

Dipping our grilled cheese in the soup was a great bite. But, you can’t really go wrong with grilled cheese and tomato soup!

A fun twist on a classic

After that, we tried Sorgan’s Stew, which has crawlfish tails, rice, and yellowseed stick. Notice how it’s crawlfish instead of crawfish — that must be the space version!

Sorgan’s Stew

We really liked the stew itself. The flavor was great and the rice really soaked up the broth which made it thick in a good way.

There’s a creature in our stew

The crawlfish itself was fine, if you like crawfish! It’s probably not the best you’ll ever have, but it did have good flavor that also infused the stew.

It’s definitely colorful!

Next up, we tried the Pork and Cheese Takeaway with black-spice spread. This is basically a ham and cheese sandwich that looks all fancy! This takeaway was good — the bread it was on is similar to the pão de queijo we usually find over at the Brazil booth during EPCOT’s Food and Wine Festival. So, the bread itself was really cheesy and tasty!

A little different than the ham and cheese sammies we’re used to!

The bread also went well with everything in the sandwich. It was crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. The black spice spread is like a very strong mustard. We really liked it, but you will probably only like it if you enjoy strong, tangy mustards! And, a little goes a long way.

That bread is stellar

Time for some more veggies! The Roasted Flora with Tubers and Red Cabbage is another veggie dish, but we liked it a lot better than the Chandrilan Salad. It actually felt composed as a dish — a bit more cohesive!

Roasted Flora

It was very light, which is great when you’re in an all-you-can-eat situation. If you like veggies, you’ll like this, but you gotta like mushrooms too because that flavor is prominent! Overall, these were great, well-cooked veggies.

Eat your veggies (if you like them)

After that, we tried the Nori-crusted Redfish with Mushrooms and Red Cabbage. This was a flaky white fish that reminded us a lot of salmon in terms of flakiness. But, it is less fishy than salmon usually is!

This actually could be salmon or steelhead trout

The skin was crispy, too. It’s a light, buttery fish and makes a good protein for your meal if you don’t want something fried or heavy. The rice was also good and wasn’t over-the-top when it came to the cilantro flavor.

Peek inside

We tried a flatbread next — this is the Tikka Tip Yip Chicken with Paneer Cheese flatbread! This was really, really good, you guys. It had a lot of those classic Indian flavors and spices, with a strong masala flavor — very aromatic!

This looks familiar

You can definitely taste the cheese because there are big chunks of it on the flatbread. It was puffy, but not in the weird way that the pizzas down on Earth (cough cough, PizzeRizzo) are. They stayed crispy because there actually is a wood fired oven on the ship.

Space pizza

If you enjoy those flavors, you should like this one a lot — it was actually one of our favorite things at lunch! It worked so well because it had unique flavors but still felt familiar since it’s basically pizza.

We love big chunks of cheese

Now, for some more kid-friendly options! They have a Dipped Tip Yip chicken with noodle cheese at lunch which is pretty good! It’s basically just your standard, all white-meat chicken nuggets with cheesy noodles, so it’s hard to go wrong there.

A kid-pleaser!

The nuggets were crispy and the cheese on the noodles has the consistency of plastic cheese, but with more of a “real” cheese flavor.

Great for picky eaters!

There are also Sunflower Butter and Jelly pods! These were AWESOME.

These are fun!

They’re super portable and a great thing to grab on the go. If you like sunflower butter, this should be a hit for you! We also think kids should enjoy this one.

Space’s version of a kid’s classic

Just beware that some of them have different sunflower butter to jelly ratios, since they are being made by people (not by machines like uncrustables!).

Can we stuff some of these in our bag?

For dessert, there are a few options! First, we tried the Choco-whip with Hibiscus Meringue. This is made without wheat, dairy, animal meat, eggs, and honey, so you should be good if you don’t eat any of those things!

Interesting

This was a very rich chocolate that was thicker than a chocolate mousse usually is. It mostly tasted like rich chocolate with a hint of fruitiness and floral flavors from the hibiscus. No complaints here!

It’s definitely great for pictures

There is also a Blue Bantha Milk Fruit Whip. This is basically blue milk in a mousse form!

This came from a Bantha?

It’s like a fruity mousse, with mostly citrus flavors. We didn’t love this, just because Disney does a lot of mousses and it’s nothing special to us anymore, but some people will probably enjoy the novelty of this dessert!

It’s fine

Finally, we had the Daily Sweetbread. This was an amatheyst sweetbread that was ube flavored. So, sweetbread (as you can see) means cookie in space!

Cookies!

This is a crinkle cookie with a little crunch on the outside and a soft texture on the inside.

If you love ube, you should love this

This was delicious and it’s not overly sweet, either. It’s a great cookie for someone who wants to try something a little different!

Day 2 Food & Drinks

Now, for Day 2 lunch! This was served from 11AM to 4PM. There’s a different menu here for Day 2, so we tried everything, of course! Let’s start with the drinks. We got the Bloody Rancor, which is a specialty alcoholic drink off of the menu for $15. This one is different from the Bloody Rancor down at Oga’s Cantina! It has vodka, golden tomato juice, and carbonate-dipped bloody rancor cubes.

A very orange take on a Bloody Mary

Those bloody rancor cubes are frozen tomato puree! This Bloody Mary wasn’t too special, and we personally think it needed to be more spicy. The only cool thing about it is the frozen tomato cubes!

Frozen tomato cubes isn’t a phrase we thought we’d write, but here we are

We also got the Dagobah Vimlet, which had vodka, herbaceous orange liqueur, lime, and peppercorn for $15. This drink was super herbaceous to the point where it was almost swampy, but in a good way. If you like herbal cocktails, then you should like this drink.

Dagobah Vimlet

It was very strong on the peppercorn flavor, which was nice. Overall, it’s a very earthy drink that kind of smells like grass, but we did enjoy it!

A little leaf floating around

Now, for food! We started with the Chili-spiced Cucumber Garden Grow Greens. These are marinated cucumbers. There is a little heat in the marinade that tasted like chili oil to us, but it’s not overly spicy. The cucumbers are cut really thinly and a super crispy as well.

Cucumbers

But, we didn’t think the marinade on these was that great. We wanted more flavor, like a vinegary taste or just something that packed more of a punch. But, they weren’t bad, they just weren’t as good as they could be. We would recommend these if you want something light, though!

Refreshing, but could use more flavor

Next, we got the Red Fruit Burrata with balsamic pearls and red fruit jelly. There’s that red fruit again!

Red Fruit Burrata

So, this is basically a space caprese salad. It’s made with tomatoes, burrata, and basil. There is also balsamic but it’s IN the pearls!

Balsamic pearls are something we never knew we needed

It comes with purple bread as well which is like a soft dinner roll. We enjoyed this! It’s a fresh option and if you like these flavors you should like this. Is it the BEST caprese you’ll ever have? Probably not. But, does it look cool? Absolutely!

Not all red fruit is red, apparently

After that, we tried the Sweet Tuber with Spicy Batuu Curry. This is basically a sweet potato soup with a granola bar on top. Yeah, sounds weird, right? The “tuber” on top seemed almost like one of those Nature Valley Oat Bars.

We don’t know how to feel

The soup, however, was pretty good! It was a thicker sweet potato soup with good texture and a good balance of sweet and savory flavors. But, dipping the granola bar in the soup was a bit strange. It was too sweet of a combination, in our opinion, but we were torn on this one, as one of our reporters liked it and another did not. It is a decent portion size, though!

A granola bar with soup?!

Oh look — more food! Time for the Kaadu Rib Bites with a sweet-and-sticky glaze and spicy slaw. These were great! They taste exactly like how you would expect them to. They’re tiny sections of ribs with a classic short ribs glaze. The meat was tender, but it didn’t really fall off the bone. It was still juicy, though!

Rib bites!

The spicy slaw had a lot of Asian-inspired flavors and also included some sesame seeds, which added some great flavor and texture. We were big fans of this slaw and all of the flavors went really well together.

Just a couple little ribs

Next, we tasted the Tamarind-glazed Burra Fish with long fruit leaf, braised kale, chickpeas, and curry. This fish is heavier than the one we had at lunch during Day 1. It’s not as flaky and was a bit more tough. It was also a lot fishier! We did like the grains this dish came with and the kale underneath the fish was really tasty! The curry sauce had the traditional curry flavors but wasn’t spicy at all. If you like a more meaty fish, you would probably enjoy this!

Burra Fish

We tried a dish made without wheat, dairy, animal meat, eggs, and honey next. This was a Marinated Seared Tofu with saffron rice, peas, sumac, aioli, and flaky flatbread.

Great for plant-based eaters!

We LOVED the base on this dish! It had a lot of mediterranean flavors and the couscous mixed with the Kalamata olives was delicious. It also had cream sauce that reminded us of a tzatziki, but it wasn’t tzatziki. The pickled onions also went well with all of the flavors!

Big fans of this flavor profile

The tofu itself was cooked well — it was crispy on the outside and soft on the inside, but it didn’t have a ton of flavor. The bread was very thin and flakey. It was good, but nothing to write home about.

Tofu needs a bit more love

Next up is the Blue Foccacia and Sausage Takeaway with red fruit jam and ahi aioli. It’s a space hot dog! Well, kind of. It’s a sausage instead of a hotdog, but that is the general idea here.

Okay…we’re intrigued

The bread is on that same airy purple bread we got with the burrata.

Definitely colorful!

The sausage had a great snap and excellent flavor. It was very well spiced. The red fruit jam and ahi aioli are supposed to be the ketchup and mustard here. They went very well with the sausage and didn’t overwhelm the flavor! This would probably be a good dish for someone with a pickier palate.

Kid-friendly!

Then, we had the Bantha Vinegared Herb-sauce Coti-cheese flatbread. This was AMAZING. It’s topped with beef (Bantha means beef in space), red peppers, cheese, and that vinegared herb-sauce.

Bantha Flatbread

The biggest flavor definitely came from the sauce, which was so tasty.

We LOVED

The pizza also stayed crispy thanks to that wood-fired oven!

Crispy pizzas are important to us

Note that there is also the same Sunflower Butter and Jelly pod available during lunch on Day 2!

Also available for Day 2 Lunch!

Now, for dessert! We started with the Cream of Jogan. Jogan is a fruit in the Star Wars universe found throughout the galaxy. This dessert was fine. It was a really pretty color, and it’s definitely Instagrammable, but it was nothing too special.

Cream of…what?

It’s just a mousse with vague fruity flavors, like a lot of the other mousses Disney loves to make. It wasn’t bad — just lackluster. We did enjoy the chocolate rocks it came with though!

Pretty, but kind of boring

Then, we got the Salted Caramel-chocolate Cake. This is a classic dessert that you can definitely find outside of a galaxy far, far away.

Looks more interesting than a classic dessert, though!

The topping is icing-like and there isn’t much of a salted caramel flavor here. It was more heavy on the chocolate and was sweet, but not overly sweet or too rich.

’twas just okay

Finally, for the Daily Sweetbread! Today, it was a chocolate chip cookie.

Choco choco chip

We liked having a classic chocolate chip cookie to snack on. It was soft, sweet, but not too sweet, a little salty, and overall delicious!

We’re here for a good chocolate chip cookie

It’s a classic chocolate chip cookie, what’s there to complain about?!

Nosh or Not

In all of our traditional reviews, you’d find a nosh or not section where we give our final thoughts on whether this restaurant is a place you might or might not want to visit. In this case, things are a bit unique on the Starcruiser as you don’t really have too many other options for dining if you don’t want what’s available on the lunch line. So, we’re still including a nosh or not section, but it’s more of a pros and cons list in relation to the lunch service.

Just keep in mind that if you don’t want to eat what’s available on the lunch line, your only other true options are some snacks that are available (like trail mix), bringing your own food onto the Starcruiser, eating on Batuu on that second day when you have the excursion, or seeking out other snacks in places like the Sublight Lounge.

You’ll likely enjoy lunch on the Galactic Starcruiser if:

  • You love a buffet meal. Lunch is buffet, all you can eat, cafeteria style. If you love to try a whole bunch of different items and fill yourself up on those goodies, then this is something you’ll likely enjoy
  • You want to try some fun food options with comfort items mixed in. There were some more fun food options on the buffet line when it comes to things like the cheesecake or the bubble grilled cheese, but things here weren’t tremendously unique or adventurous so it still has a bit of that comfort factor since there are dishes you recognize like salmon, grilled cheese, etc.
  • You need to have EVERY experience possible on the Starcruiser (and want to get your money’s worth!). Remember, you paid for this food with the price of the hotel! Sure, you can grab something down in Batuu that you’ve also paid for, but that will just be a single meal and a drink. But at the buffet, you can get a ton of different foods to try out. Plus, this is the only time you’re going to be able to get food like this (unless you book a second trip), so you might as well try it!

You might want to pack a lunch for the Starcruiser or seek other options if:

  • You’ve got super picky eaters. Buffets are usually a great pick for picky eaters since there are a lot of things to choose from, but here the options aren’t all that big. So, if you’ve got a kiddo (or adult companion) that won’t eat anything but those more standard options or will be craving a simple PB&J, you may want to pack some items with you and stick them in the mini fridge of your room to pull out for lunchtime.
  • You want to spend as much time as possible on Batuu. If you want to maximize your time during your outing to Batuu, you won’t want to cut any of it short by staying on the ship to eat lunch on day 2. Grab something down in Galaxy’s Edge instead!
  • You would rather some non-space food. If you’re already tired of the food on the ship, then you may want to go down to Batuu (on day 2) and then make your way over to somewhere else to eat in Hollywood Studios. Maybe you’re craving a grilled cheese from Woody’s Lunch Box or want a charcuterie board over at BaseLine Tap House. You can do that during your time off of the ship!

Overall

Overall, lunch in space is a mix of some space-y themed items, really unique dishes, and flavors you know and love from Earth.

In general, we think lunch in space is something that’ll please most palettes (except some really picky eaters) and leave you satisfied and ready to tackle more assignments aboard the Starcruiser. Who’s got time for lunch anyway when there are SO many things to see and do on the ship?!

Sublight Lounge

Our recommendation? If you’re really looking to experience everything Starcruiser has to offer, hit up lunch whenever it fits into your schedule, pick up those more unique/fun looking items (and the extra tasty ones), eat relatively quickly, and then get yourself back into the action! You’ve only got 2 days to really explore the ship (since you disembark on the 3rd day) so we don’t think spending TOO time sitting down for lunch is the best use of your time.

On the other hand, if you’re feeling overstimulated by the Starcruiser experience and just need a break, take lunch as your opportunity to take a seat, relax, and get a breather from all the action. It can be a lot to take in all at once, so lunch could be a good time to reset and prepare for the rest of the day.

And remember if you have special dietary needs or have food allergies, let the staff at the Starcruiser know so things can be prepared ahead of your trip. Click here to see more about special dietary needs and the Star Wars hotel.

We’ll be bringing you FULL reviews and more details about the Star Wars Hotel soon so stay tuned for that. And, as always, may the Force be with you.
