BREAKING: Return Dates Announced for Main Street Electrical Parade, Disneyland Forever, World of Color, and Fantasmic; Encanto, Frozen, Moana, and More Added to MSEP

Disneyland has announced that “Main Street Electrical Parade,” “Disneyland Forever,” and “World of Color” will return on April 22, 2022. “Fantasmic!” will return to Disneyland on May 28, 2022. Read more below.

On April 22, 2022, the “Main Street Electrical Parade” and “Disneyland Forever” fireworks spectacular will return to Disneyland park, and “World of Color” will return to Disney California Adventure park. “Fantasmic!” is preparing for its return to Disneyland park on May 28, 2022.

But that’s not all the exciting news we have to share with you today!

Upon its return to Disneyland park, the “Main Street Electrical Parade” will be celebrating its 50th anniversary. In honor of this milestone, the Disney Live Entertainment team will introduce exciting new elements to the “Main Street Electrical Parade” that will continue to evolve this beloved spectacular.

Over the past five decades, the “Main Street Electrical Parade” has brought families together to delight in its many whimsical stories and featured characters. And soon, that will continue for a whole new generation of dreamers. In honor of the parade’s 50th anniversary, this nighttime spectacular will return with an all-new, enchanted grand finale that celebrates the theme of togetherness.

This universal theme is reflected in the creative concept of the grand finale sequence. Inspired by both the original design of classic “Main Street Electrical Parade” floats and Disney Legend Mary Blair’s iconic art style on “it’s a small world,” the new grand finale brings to life more than a dozen Disney Animation and Pixar stories. These stories will be interpreted in thousands of sparkling lights and electro-synthe-magnetic musical sound, with unique representations of beloved characters as animated dolls.

As the new grand finale passes by, guests along each side of the parade route will see a different set of stylized scenes from classic and contemporary favorite stories such as “Encanto,” “The Jungle Book,” “Raya and the Last Dragon,” “Aladdin,” “Coco,” “Mulan,” “Brave,” “The Princess and the Frog” and more. Check out one of the early pieces of concept art, featuring Mirabel and Antonio from Walt Disney Animation Studios’ Academy Award-nominated film, “Encanto.”

From the Blue Fairy to a colorful, unique representation of Sleeping Beauty Castle, the grand finale of the “Main Street Electrical Parade” comprises seven segments stretching 118 feet in length, making it one of the longest and grandest units in the parade’s 50-year history.

  • World of Color at Disney California Adventure Park
  • “Disneyland Forever” Fireworks Spectacular at Disneyland Park

“Main Street Electrical Parade” and “Disneyland Forever” will be available for a limited time at Disneyland park. When “Disneyland Forever” fireworks spectacular comes back on April 22, it will run weekends only (Friday through Sunday). “Mickey’s Mix Magic” will present its high-energy, projections-only show during the week (Monday through Thursday) until late spring. At that time, “Disneyland Forever” fireworks will then run nightly in the summer. “World of Color” and “Fantasmic!” will return to their regular schedule upon reopening.

We cannot wait to “ignite the night” once again! With the return of fan-favorite offerings, and new experiences on the way, the Disneyland Resort is buzzing with energy and excitement. It’s a great time to plan a visit, and we’re so excited to continue welcoming back our guests!

15 Ways You Can Ride Backwards in Disney World

We know how the BIG holidays are celebrated in Disney World, but what about the small, quirky holidays, like Palindrome Day?

Life Day pin

Palindrome Day is when the date reads the same backward as it does forward. We’ve actually already had one this month (2/2/22) and now we’re having ANOTHER one on 2/22/22. This holiday is probably is a bit too insignificant to Disney, but it’s not to us! So, we’re creating our own celebrations — these are all of the ways you can ride backwards in Disney World for Palindrome Day!

Transportation

There is a TON of transportation around Disney World where you can ride backwards! Hop on the Skyliner and you can choose which way you face. Maybe you prefer not to see what’s coming up ahead? Sit backwards!

Skyliner

You can also flip it around on transportation like the Monorail or on the parking lot trams. There are seats that face either direction, so you can face other people in your group if you want, and some people will feel like they’re moving forward while others feel like they’re moving backwards!

Monorail

You could also stand backwards on the ferry from the Transportation and Ticket Center to Magic Kingdom!

On the ferryboat!

We definitely do this when we’re leaving the park, so we can look at the castle for as long as possible.

Rides

Magic Kingdom

The first ride we think of when we think of riding backwards is the PeopleMover — duh! You can choose to sit facing forwards or backwards on the ride that winds all through Tomorrowland. One of the best ways to relax in Disney World is definitely getting your own PeopleMover car to yourself, sitting backwards, putting your feet up on the other seat, and taking a nice little cat nap while riding through the dark tunnels. 😴

PeopleMover!

Next up is the Haunted Mansion! You really ride every direction through this spooky attraction, but there are sections of the ride where ya go backwards. Your doom buggy gets flipped around to look at the longgg hallway with the floating candelabra at the end, then continue backwards through the room with the iconic purple wallpaper. You also go backwards to get down into the graveyard scene!

The Haunted Mansion

A similar situation happens in a much less scary way over at Under the Sea: Journey of the Little Mermaid. Your clamshell will go backwards and tilt up so you can look up at Ariel swimming above you!

Under the Sea

This ride may be less scary than Haunted Mansion, but you still have to see the terrifying Ursula animatronic. 😖

EPCOT

Spaceship Earth has a lengthy section where you go backwards as you descend back down toward the end of the ride. You get to look up and see all of those beautiful stars! This is also when you get to create your future life on the little touch screen in front of you.

Spaceship Earth Ride Vehicle

“Let it goooo, let it GOOO” is what you’ll hear as Elsa pushes your boat backwards on Frozen Ever After! It’s only for a short moment, but it’s a fun and unexpected part of the ride if you don’t know what already happens.

Frozen Ever After

Plus, it leads you into the room with all of the adorable little snowgies (and the giant one, Marshmallow).

We love these lil guys

Okay, humor us for a minute. We’re including Space 220 on this list simply because you can back and forth between the space station and Earth using the restaurant’s elevator! You’re technically going in reverse, so we think it works!

The Space Elevator!

Also, don’t you want to say that you went to Space 220 on 2-22-22?!

Animal Kingdom

There is one ride in Animal Kingdom that can face you forward, backwards, or sideways, it just depends on your luck. Kali River Rapids can turn you around so you can’t see what’s coming next — which can sometimes be a HUGE wave of water getting ready to splash you!

Kali River Rapids

Want to go back…in time?! DINOSAUR takes you to the age of the dinosaurs and then (spoiler alert) brings you back to the present day! Dr. Seeker really puts everyone’s lives in danger just to go grab a dinosaur. 🙄

DINOSAUR

It’s a contender for one of the scariest rides in Disney World, but it sure is fun!

Hollywood Studios

Hollywood Studios is home to a few rides that all go backwards in similar ways, because they all use trackless ride systems! Rise of the Resistance has several places where the ride vehicle flings you backwards, like when Kylo Ren sends you away! Plus, you go to and from Batuu over the course of the ride, so that’s pretty palindromic.

Ride Vehicles

This also happens on Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway! You move in reverse many times in order to catch all of that awesome animation. Oh! And Daisy makes you go backwards when you’re in her dance studio.🕺

Train Cars During the Ride

Finally, we have Toy Story Mania! This ride whips you around so much that you go backwards without even realizing it. At least, we don’t realize it — we’re too busy trying to get the highest score in our vehicle!

Toy Story Mania

So, there you have it! Alllll the different ways you can ride backwards in Disney World for Palindrome Day. Which way do you think is the BEST?! Tell us down below! And, stay tuned to DFB for more Disney news, info, and updates.
