This year’s Mardi Gras theme is Planet Mardi Gras, so you’ll notice a lot of space-themed merchandise, costumes, and parade floats. Inside the Tribute Store, there are plenty of treats, including Shaker Cakes and Trifle Cakes. The Purple Planet Trifle Cake and the Blue Planet Trifle Cake are different flavors, so we decided to give them both a try.
Purple Planet Trifle Cake – $10
This bourbon chocolate pecan layer cake is delicious. Under the galactic swirled chocolate dome, the cake was rich, with just the right amount of bourbon and pecan flavor. The bourbon didn’t overpower the chocolate, but you could taste it with each bite. There weren’t any actual pecans in the cake, just layers of colorful frosting and chocolate cake.
It might look like a lot of frosting through the clear wrapper holding the cake together, but it’s just the right amount. The frosting isn’t overly sweet and the cake is soft and fresh. This treat is perfect for chocolate lovers.
Blue Planet Trifle Cake – $10
The Blue Planet is a snickerdoodle layer cake, with creamy layers of purple, green, and yellow frosting. This cake wasn’t quite as soft as the chocolate, but it was still an excellent cake.
The cinnamon and vanilla flavors were a bit like a King Cake, so this a great choice for Mardi Gras. You can check out our video review of both of these cakes below!
These cakes are both delicious, but the Purple Planet was the winner between the two. There’s plenty of great Mardi Gras food to try this year, so be sure to check out all of our reviews. Happy Mardi Gras!
