Should You Be SCARED to Try This Hidden EPCOT Treat?

We’re not afraid of an unusual food challenge.

Yup, that’s an octopus tentacle in our drink.

We’ve tried some bizarre foods in Disney World, and we’ve also eaten our weight in glitter and blue dye in 50th-anniversary treats. So when we came across a hidden snack in EPCOT, we had to check it out. Find out what we dared to try!

We were minding our business in EPCOT today when we wandered into the China pavilion, where we found Crispy Crepes in House of Good Fortune. This treat is made with durian filling, and you may be wondering, what is that?? Durian is a fruit found in Southeast Asia, and it’s known for its…odor. 🤭

While some people find that the durian fruit has a sweet smell, other people have said it has a smell akin to raw sewage or even rotting flesh. 🤢 In fact, some public places throughout Southeast Asia have gone so far as to ban the fruit due to the horrible smell. Nevertheless, durian fruit is used in many sweet and savory dishes, so basically we had NO idea what to expect from this treat. But we had to try it, right?

Crispy Crepes

A box of Crispy Crepes costs $5.95 before tax, and it comes with individually wrapped packages so you can share with everyone in your group. And if you really like this snack, there’s a good amount of packages for the price!

So what did it taste like (or better yet…what did it smell like??)?  As it turns out, our reporter was really surprised by the taste!

She said that the texture of the Crispy Crepes reminded her of Keebler Sugar Wafers (you know, the ones that generally come in flavors of strawberry, vanilla, or chocolate) but these had less filling. She also said that she initially thought she tasted coconut, but it was actually likely palm oil that took a front seat on the flavor bus.

They didn’t have a bizarre taste OR smell, and they mostly just smelled like a sweet cookie. There was also no aftertaste! Overall, our reporter said they were very unique, so if you’re willing to step out of your comfort zone the next time you visit EPCOT, why not give this snack a chance?
