8 Things You Need to Know About Disney World in March

This month is HUGE for Disney World…do you want to know why?

It’s a BIG month for Disney World!

Well, we’ve got a new hotel opening, the start of an EPCOT festival, the return of some popular entertainment, and tons of other exciting events happening all around the property. March is gearing up to be very busy, so we’ve compiled a list of all the things you need to know about Disney World this month!

Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser is Now Open!

Perhaps the biggest news of all going into March is that the Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser is now open! This new hotel is a fully immersive (and VERY expensive) experience that whisks guests away to the Halcyon Starcruiser for their own 2-day adventure in the Star Wars universe.

Atrium on the Halcyon

We got the chance to visit the Halcyon before it opened, and we’ve got posts and reviews on all the important details: the food, the merchandise, the rooms, and the activities. If you want to know what it’s like to stay at the Star Wars hotel, make sure to check out our ultimate guide!

The EPCOT Flower & Garden Festival Starts

Ever since the Festival of the Arts ended a few days ago, EPCOT has been in that weird phase between festivals. But no longer! The Flower & Garden Festival kicked off on March 2nd.

Happy Flower & Garden, everyone!

If you plan to visit between now and July 4th, you can stop by and enjoy all the food, the special entertainment, and shop the unique festival merchandise. Don’t forget to stop and smell the roses while you’re there…literally, there are flowers all OVER the park!

All-Star Sports Resort is Reopening

Ever since Disney World first began the reopening process in summer 2020, we’ve seen the hotels reopen one by one. After a year and a half, all but one have resumed operation. But not for long!

All-Star Sports

Disney’s All-Star Sports Resort is the last on the list to reopen, and it’s opening its gates to guests starting March 31st. We can’t wait to have every Disney hotel back again, and we’ll be there on the big day to cover all the news straight from All-Star Sports.

One Hotel is Getting Some Big Refurbishments

And speaking of hotels, across Disney World property, another one is getting some major refurbishments. At Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa, Big Pine Key (Building 9) is closed temporarily to be transformed into Disney Vacation Club villa rooms.

Construction began March 1st, and the project is set to be completed this summer. We’ve already seen the concept art of these new rooms, and they look gorgeous!

Annual Passholders Get Some Bonus Perks

If you’re a Disney World Annual Passholder, then we’ve got good news for you! March comes with some bonus perks that are available at Disney Springs from the 2nd-30th. First of all, there’s a special 50th Anniversary magnet that’s available at Disney’s Wonderful World of Memories gift shop. But you’ll only be able to pick one up by joining the virtual queue in the My Disney Experience app!

Very sparkly!

In addition to that, there will be other offerings, like special Passholder props at the PhotoPass studio, a Passholder Chocolate Covered Strawberry Marshmallows gift box at The Ganachery, and a hidden menu drink at Jock Lindsey’s Hangar Bar.

Festival of Fantasy Is Coming Back!

We’ve been two years without any daytime parades in Disney World (except for the few days when the Christmas parade ran during the daytime last holiday season), and now the Festival of Fantasy parade is finally coming back! We know that many guest will be excited to have this full-scale offering return.

We can’t wait to see this parade again!

Festival of Fantasy will start daily shows on March 9th, and according to the schedule on the My Disney Experience app, we’ll be getting TWO showtimes each day! For the first week of its return, the parade will happen at 11:30AM and 2:30PM, then it will switch over to 12PM and 3PM after that. (Keep in mind that these showtimes are subject to change, so check the times guide on the day of your visit.)

Another runDisney Event is Happening

What’s one of the best ways to keep fit during your Disney World vacations? With runDisney races of course! At the end of this month, the runDisney Springtime Surprise will take place from March 31st-April 3rd. This brand-new race weekend will features a 5K, a 10K, and a 10-mile race.

If you’re feeling extra ambitious, you can choose to participate in all three to earn the Springtime Surprise Challenge medal. If you’re a regular guest, just note that these races may impact crowd levels in the park and traffic patterns around Disney World property in the mornings.

Crowds Will Be Heavy

And speaking of the impact of crowds…you should expect heavy crowds in the month of March. The next six weeks or so is the Spring Break season for many schools around the nation, and that means that thousands of guests will flock to Disney World for their week off.

Crowds in Disney World

During this time, the parks will be extra busy and wait times will probably be longer than usual. We recommend having a plan for what you’d like to eat before you go into the parks — you may need to place your Mobile Orders for food early in the day so that those windows don’t run out. Just be patient if you’re visiting soon and go in with a game plan on what you’d like to prioritize during your visit!
