Disney Violates Fair Housing Act and Denies Housing Accommodations to College Program Members with Disabilities

According to current participants in the Walt Disney World Disney College Program, Disney has been denying special housing accommodations for Cast Members with disabilities.

According to our sources, multiple Disney College Program participants living at the new Flamingo Crossings Village have requested special housing accommodations due to having a certain medical condition and/or disability. For example, one of our sources suffers from epilepsy and PTSD, which causes seizures, and would prefer to have less roommates or a single bedroom. But Disney is reportedly denying accommodating these Cast Members.

Disney’s reasoning for denying these requests is that no more single bedrooms are currently available in the College Program housing. But sources tell us that multiple College Program participants have bedrooms in their suites that are currently empty.

And despite requesting special accommodations, these disabled Cast Members were ignored and still placed in apartments with multiple roommates. Cast Members with other various conditions that needed a private bathroom, a ground floor apartment, an apartment with no animals, etc., were also ignored.

These Cast Members were then told they would need to find off-campus housing in order to accommodate their medical condition and/or disability. But many College Program participants come from all parts of the country and the world to participate in the program. Most do not have their own cars to rely on and need the program-provided bus transportation to get to and from work. The bus transportation is only provided to College Program participants who are living in the company-sponsored housing.

Another source tells us they are deaf and were denied ASL interpreters for a roommate mediation meeting at Flamingo Crossings Village, despite having a written request. Our source was also told by Disney that they will not be provided an interpreter for any housing events at Flamingo Crossings Village.

Denying these requests is a violation of the Fair Housing Act which prohibits discrimination by direct providers of housing to persons because of race or color, religion, sex, national origin, familial status, or disability.
