In an interview with Screen Rant, Jared Leto teased that a third “TRON” film — which he is set to star in — is “getting closer.” The first “TRON” was released in 1982, followed by “TRON: Legacy” in 2010.
News first circulated in 2017 that Jared Leto would star in a “TRON” reboot. It has since been described as a sequel instead of a reboot, with development moving forward in 2020. Garth Davis is attached to direct, and Jesse Wigutow is writing the script. Leto may have accidentally revealed the name of the film in a now-deleted tweet: “Tron: Ares.” Of course, this could change.
There hasn’t been much news since, but Screen Rant asked Leto about “TRON 3,” and he had this to say:
I’m a super fan of TRON, and we are working hard on Tron with our incredible partners at Disney. Just an amazing group of creative people. We’re getting closer. We’re getting closer and closer, and who knows? Something may be [coming] sooner than later.
Jared Leto
“TRON: Ares” or “TRON 3” has yet to be greenlit by Disney.
Meanwhile, the TRON Lightcycle / Run coaster is still under construction at Walt Disney World.
