What’s the best part about a Disney World vacation? If you’re like us, your answer is likely…the FOOD!
Okay, we may be a little bit biased when it comes to loving food so much , but can you really blame us for centering our trips on visiting some of the TOP and most unique dining locations that fill the parks, resorts, and Disney Springs?! In the past few months, we’ve had several new additions to the Disney food scene…and now another one is coming!
Not too long ago, we shared that Local Green (an Atlanta-based restaurant with a focus on health food) would be opening a new location at Walt Disney World in Disney Springs. We didn’t have too many details until just yesterday…when a Local Green food truck rolled into the shopping and dining complex!
The co-founder and co-owner of Local Green Atlanta, Robyn Wallace, recently spoke to the Orlando Business Journal to share more about her restaurant and its future.
According to the interview, Local Green was actually started out of “necessity” by its founder, Zachary Wallace (Robyn Wallace’s husband). Wallace “grew up in a food desert, with limited access to food rich in nutrition and healthy ingredients. He saw how the lack of access impacted the overall health, wellness, lifestyle and perpetuity of his community whose demographic makeup was mostly Black and Brown.”
In the interview, she noted that “The Local Green concept was born out of community and the pledge to increase awareness of the benefits of delicious and fulfilling plant-based foods. Initially, the company started as a food truck and scaled to a brick-and-mortar restaurant based in Atlanta’s historic Westside community.”
As far as the Local Green Orlando location goes (the Disney Springs food truck), the menu will “include beloved classics and new menu items, like its Atlanta offerings, inspired by hip-hop culture paying homage to Florida’s most famous musical acts.” Wallace also shared that eventually the truck will be a perfect selfie background, with its sustainable social media wall.
Some of the signature dishes you’ll find at the food truck include The “Monsta” Shrimp Burger, “Badu” Kale Wrap, and “Oh Boy” Beyond Burger.
Wallace said, “Our focus is to shine the light on nutrient-dense fruits and vegetables; therefore, we serve a mostly plant-based menu.”
In terms of more growth for Local Green in Florida or Orlando Wallace said, “Absolutely, we are here to stay, Orlando.” They’ve found space for a mobile kitchen and will be sharing details about catering options, a brick-and-mortar location, and more in the next coming months.
We can’t wait to check out this truck when it opens to the public at Disney Springs, so stay tuned to DFB for all the details! And until then, keep following along for the latest Disney World news.
