Disney has a lot of projects simultaneously in progress, but sometimes things don’t go as planned.
Before the pandemic, there were many announcements about upcoming attractions, makeovers, and other new things coming to the parks. But, the pandemic has pushed back the timeline on a lot of projects, like TRON: Lightcycle Run, or cut them completely. There are also a lot of projects that we haven’t heard much about, so we didn’t know if they were still in the works or scrapped. But, we just got a status update on 2 upcoming Disney projects.
The Mary Poppins attraction that was supposed to be coming to EPCOT’s U.K. pavilion is officially on hold…
…and the Quinjet attraction that was slated for Avengers Campus in Disney California Adventure is also on hold.
The Mary Poppins attraction was set to allow guest to “step in time down Cherry Tree Land past Admiral Boom’s house, then enter Number 17, home of the Banks family.”
The Quinjet attraction was supposed to open during Phase 2 of Avengers Campus on an unknown later date. The attraction would take guests on the Quinjet and travel to Wakanda to join a team of Marvel superheroes in battle. On top of this, the ride was supposed to feature seats that double as a weapons system and jet packs.
During the call today, CEO Bob Chapek said that they are taking a pause on capital-intensive projects.
There was no further update on when these projects might continue, but at least Chapek didn’t say that they’ve been completely cancelled! Stay tuned to DFB for more Disney news and updates.
