As if our wallets weren’t screaming already from all the new Disney merchandise released lately, Disneyland REALLY wants us to do some shopping.
Today Disneyland just opened a NEW store, and it’s actually MORE than just a store because it’s FULL of history, easter eggs, and more! If you’re a fan of Merlin, you’re going to LOVE this new shop!
Today in Disneyland Park, Merlin’s Marvelous Miscellany (try saying that three times fast!) opened behind Sleeping Beauty Castle in Fantasyland! In fact, according to the OC Register, it’s located in the same space that Merlin’s Magic Shop once occupied, which was an original Disneyland shop that opened with the park on July 17th, 1955.
As reported by the OC Register, Walt Disney Imagineering Art Director Michael Dobrzycki explained that the store contains many nods to Merlin’s Magic Shop, as well as The Sword in the Stone. In fact, the interior of the store was decorated with Merlin’s unorganized style in mind, and the outside of the store is painted with the same color scheme (gold and crimson) from Merlin’s Magic Shop’s original marquee.
Dobrzycki notes that along the walls you can find decorations like books, Da Vinci models, chemistry sets that show Merlin’s interest in astrology and astronomy, globes, telescopes, and more. And don’t forget to look out for Merlin and The Sword in the Stone easter eggs around the shop!
There are details everywhere! The “Higitus figitus migitus mum prestidigitonium” lyrics can be found in the store, along with all kinds of other things. Here we see what could be potions bottles surrounded by books and more documents…
…and we also spotted some spells and other documents! Fun fact: The OC Register shared that comedian and actor Steve Martin actually worked at Merlin’s Magic Shop from 1955 to 1958! He worked as a salesperson and a magician.
Outside the store, the fun doesn’t end. In one storefront window you’ll find a telescope, a medieval solar system mobile, and astronomy and astrology knickknacks. In the other display window, you’ll find Merlin’s alchemy lab.
When it comes to merchandise, we spotted a variety of Peter Pan and Tinker Bell merchandise, which makes sense since the store is not far from Peter Pan’s Flight. It would be just as much fun to shop in this store as it would be to check out all the details!
Head to Disneyland Park if you want to check out Merlin’s Marvelous Miscellany, and keep reading DFB for more Disney news!
