We Are One Step Closer to Being Able to Sail On the Disney Wish Cruise Ship!

Every day brings us just a little bit closer to the inaugural voyage of the Disney Wish cruise ship (and we can hardly wait!). We’ve gotten so many details recently about what will be coming to the Wish like what entertainment, food, and merchandise will be available onboard!

It’s setting sail soon!

Today, the Disney Wish hit another huge milestone on its way to being seaworthy ahead of its inaugural sail on July 14th!

The cruise ship was being constructed in Germany at a shipyard called Meyer Werft. On February 11th, Disney Wish finally hit water for the first time, and today, it is on its way to the Netherlands before it heads out into the North Sea for sea trials, according to the Orlando Sentinel.

The Disney Wish

The Disney Wish is the first of three new ships coming to the Disney Cruise Line fleet over the next few years. The second and third unnamed ships are set to be coming in 2024 and 2025. It joins four other ships in the Disney Cruise Line fleet: the Disney Magic, the Disney Wonder, the Disney Dream, and the Disney Fantasy.

©Disney

The Disney Wish is notable because it will be the biggest in Disney’s fleet and is the first ship to feature Minnie as captain of the ship rather than Mickey, and her picture can even be found on the front of the ship.

©Disney

Disney Wish is also making history as the cruise ship with the Disney’s first ever attraction at sea, the AquaMouse. There’s certainly more news to come as the Disney Wish prepares to set sail out of Cape Canaveral this July, so stay tuned to DFB for all the latest updates!

Check out actual photos of the Disney Wish here!

Final Remnants of AMC Theater Gone During Downtown Disney District Reimagining

The green gazebo structure that once stood outside the Downtown Disney District AMC is now gone as buildings in the area are demolished for a major reimagining.

We could still see the green structure a week ago after the rest of the building had been torn down.

Yesterday, we could still see the AMC logo on metal peeking over the wall.

The Downtown Disney reimagining started with demolition back in February. Guests will be able to relax in a new grassy area and there will be an event space.

In November, Disney Parks Experiences and Products President Josh D’Amaro announced the reimagining at Destination D23. Above, you can see the concept art for the finished project.

Imagineers Share New Look at ‘Global Gathering’ Mural in Connections Café and Eatery at EPCOT

Walt Disney Imagineer Zach Riddley has shared a closer look at the mural that will adorn the walls of Connections Café and Eatery when it opens this spring at EPCOT.

The photo Riddley shared is of an Imagineer touching up a section of the mural, which is titled “Global Gathering.” Here is Riddley’s full caption about the piece:

To celebrate the recent menu reveal of Connections Eatery on @disneyparks, I’m excited to share even more behind-the-scenes details of this beautiful space at EPCOT. Adding to the park’s rich legacy of original art displays, our team produced a hand-painted mural that stretches over 160 feet along the back wall of Connections Eatery!

This original piece, titled “Global Gathering,” is a celebration of various food and beverage staples from around the world, and how we are all connected by enjoying a meal together. Highlighting eight distinct regions of the globe, this vibrant installation depicts people cultivating or gathering around food, such as potatoes from the Andes Mountains in Peru or black pepper from the Malabar Coast of India. The piece also evolves from sunrise in the east to sunset in the west across the full span of the eatery – culminating in one of the largest art installations Imagineering has created. That scale and stunning vibrancy celebrates global diversity with a simple, universal concept: the moments we have in common around food, meals, traditions and memories.

The creative concept for this piece was developed over the last few years, with consultants from around the world. It was then hand-painted in a series of panels and recently installed by our site teams at EPCOT. Here we see Abdul from our Character Paint team, working alongside a team of artisans to provide final touch-ups in the field.

Seeing this stunning mural come to life and now find its home in EPCOT speaks to the global story of connection that’s always been at the heart of this unique park.
