Is the Connections Café Preview Menu What You Were Hoping It’d Be?

Disney has just given us a look at some of the dishes that will be coming to the menu when Connections Café and Eatery opens this Spring in EPCOT. And as I sit here across from Connections Eatery writing this, I’m wondering what you think of the offerings. I’d love your two-cents worth!

You and I should but keep in mind that this is just a cross-section of what will be featured on the menu. With that out of the way, let’s look at a few of the details.

As part of the sneak peek, we’ve been told that the menu will reflect the park’s overall global focus. We’ll see drinks, dishes, and desserts that reflect the cultures of the world, and I for one am glad to see it. All I want is something fresh and unique to the park. Yes, we need our chicken nuggets from time to time, but I’d like to have an inventive salad or two as well. Thankfully, it seems that we’re going to get just that.

Pictured above are the Nicoise-Style Salad that reflects the flavors of French culture, complete with white and green beans, olives, and potatoes and topped with Dijon vinaigrette. The General Tso’s Chicken Salad (on the right above) will feature ingredients such as broccoli slaw, mandarin oranges, red bell pepper, and crispy wontons. Thank you, Disney chefs, for the inclusion of unique salads. Check.

What would a Disney World fast-casual quick service location be without a burger or two on the menu? The burgers at Connections Café will also have a global flare. The French Bistro Burger will feature bacon, caramelized onions, and brie cheese. The Southwestern Burger will be topped with roasted chipotle-corn salsa and guacamole spread. The Bánh Mì Burger will reflect the flavors of Vietnam and the Mediterranean Burger will be topped with Greek-inspired ingredients.

Friends, this is where I believe the true test will come: there’s pizza on the menu. Quality in-park quick service pizza has historically been hard to come by. There will be four pizzas on the Connections Café and Eatery menu, with two of them being the Meatball Pizza and the Curry Spice Pizza. The latter will come topped with carrots, peas, potato, and lime “yogurt,” and will be plant-based.

Kids dining options from Connections Café and Eatery

Of course, kids get in the act here at the café as well. Three items announced today are the Grilled Chicken Bao, a cheeseburger, and a Chicken Nuggets Basket. I’m thankful that they went ahead and announced that, yes, there will be chicken nuggets here. After the closure of Electric Umbrella, chicken nuggets have been hard to come by in the park, so I know that parents whose little ones need their chicken nuggies will be happy.

Liege Waffle

Of course, I’m invested in the desserts that the dining location will offer. Highly invested. The only one that we’ve gotten a look at is the Liege Waffle. I’m excited to give it a whirl as I will eat just about anything in the dessert category. Disney has said that this treat “will make you and your taste buds very happy.“ Let’s hope.

They’ll also be a few shakes on the menu. The picture above and to the left is the Mango-Coconut Milk Shake, which will be topped with a pomegranate molasses drizzle. The Apple Pie Gelato Shake is to the right, and that just sounds amazing.

As far as beverages go, there will be both adult beverages and non-alcoholic options on the menu. The two we’ve been shown today are the Watermelon-Mint Agua Fresca (alcohol-free) and the Cucumber and Thai Basil Cooler, which will be a specialty cocktail for the location.

Now that we’ve had a chance to preview the menu, what are your thoughts? Do you have dishes that you’re most excited to try? What are you hoping is featured when the full menu is released? It’s important to remember that whatever this dining location is, it’s in competition with the World Showcase. It’s true that some families may just need what they need at that moment or particular spot in the park, but when you have so many tempting choices just a short walk away, it can be hard to justify settling for less.

Me? I’m excited about what I’m seeing so far. I think there’s promise in what we’ve been shown, and I hope all that the rest of the menu follows suit.

We’ll be keeping a sharp eye out for additional mine updates in the days to come.

Finally! A Mickey Pretzel That’ll Last Forever (And is Zero Calories!)

Is there anything better than a Mickey pretzel? Especially with a side of plastic cheese? This salty snack is hard to beat, which is probably why Disney has been releasing so many new items inspired by this fan-favorite!

Mickey Pretzel

We’ve seen Mickey pretzel ears, and we’ve seen a Mickey pretzel spirit jersey, and now, we’ve seen a Mickey pretzel Loungefly backpack.

We spotted this backpack at the Creations Shop in EPCOT today.

These backpacks are a pale yellow with Mickey pretzels covering the bag, with salt flakes sprinkled in between them.

Mickey Pretzel Loungefly backpacks!

And of course, they have a huge Mickey pretzel pocket front and center.

Mickey pretzel-shaped pocket

Just like the other items in the collection, this bag is scented to smell like a pretzel! The theming of the bag even extends to the inside as the pattern of the fabric on the inside lining looks like salt sprinkles, complete with Mickey-shaped salt.

Even the inside of the bag looks like a pretzel!

We spotted these backpacks at the Creations Shop in EPCOT for $85. We’ll be sure to let you know if we see them anywhere else, so stay tuned to DFB for the latest Disney news!

More Preview Images Released of New EARidescent Shimmer, Vault Orange Bird, and Vault Balloon Merchandise for Walt Disney World 50th Anniversary

More 50th anniversary merchandise is coming soon to Walt Disney World as part of new and expanded collections. Here is a closer look at some of the items that will be available in the EARidescent Shimmer, Vault Orange Bird, and Vault Balloon collections.

EARidescent Shimmer Collection

This collection, inspired by the blue and gold turrets of Cinderella Castle, will include a Spirit Jersey, ear headband, ball cap, and Loungefly mini backpack.

The jersey is blue with gold lettering and a golden Mickey on the back.

The ears and Loungefly backpack are mainly gold with blue touches and sequins.

Vault Orange Bird Collection

The Orange Bird ball cap will be white with orange stitching and Orange Bird in a logo on the front.

The outfit appears to be a shirt and shorts patterned all over with Orange Bird. There will also be an Orange Bird cup with a straw.

Vault Balloon Collection

This Mickey Mouse balloon print was once used to decorate shopping bags at Walt Disney World. It will now decorate a Spirit Jersey, Loungefly mini backpack, bucket hat, bottle, and more.

The Spirit Jersey is white with a pattern of colorful Mickey balloons. The retro Walt Disney World logo and the silhouette of Florida are on the left breast.

The back of the jersey was “Walt Disney World” spelled out in teal letters — except for the “D” which is pink with the globe Mickey logo in the center.

The backpack has a colorful Mickey balloon on the front pocket and otherwise features a similar print to the jersey.

The bucket hat has a green visor on the front.

“Walt Disney World” is in orange on the back. It is encircled with Mickey balloons.

The water bottle features the same print as the jersey with an orange cap.

REVIEW: Cold Brew with ICE CREAM?! Say No More, Disney World

Peanut butter and jelly. Macaroni and cheese. Mickey and Minnie. Some things just make sense together.

Mickey and Minnie

And now we think we may have found another iconic pairing in Disney World — cold brew coffee and ice cream. We were taking a stroll through Disney’s Animal Kingdom when we spotted two NEW coffee drinks at Dino-Bite Snacks, and we just so happen to think that one of them is almost as iconic as milk and cookies — let’s check ’em out!

We took a trip back a few thousand years over to Dinoland U.S.A. in Disney’s Animal Kingdom, and while we were there we happened to find the Cold Brew Coffee Ice Cream Float from Dino-Bite Snacks for $5.99!

Dino-Bite Snacks

This treat is made with Joffrey’s Cold Brew Coffee and Haagen Dazs Vanilla Ice Cream — which sounds like the best partnership since Disney and Pixar joined forces if you ask us! You can also choose to substitute regular cold brew for the Shakin’ Jamaican Cold Brew, which has notes of caramel and vanilla flavors.

Cold Brew Coffee Ice Cream Float

Our ice cream melted pretty quickly, but we really didn’t mind as it mellowed out the coffee flavor and acted as milk in our coffee. We could definitely taste the vanilla from the ice cream and it made for a smooth and not-too-sweet. You can add an additional syrup flavor for $0.50, but our Cast Member recommended going without since the ice cream is sweet enough on its own!

Deliciously sweet and smooth!

If you love sweet and creamy coffee, you should definitely give this a shot — but if you like your coffee black and not sweet (or just don’t like coffee) this drink probably isn’t for you.

We also tried the Shakin’ Jamaican Cold Brew with Caramel Syrup. We added the caramel syrup to our drink for $0.50, and we’re glad we did! This cold brew coffee was super sweet and we didn’t find the need to add any cream or sugar. The caramel flavor was definitely there, but it didn’t overpower the coffee at all and reminded us of the Caramel Crunch from Starbucks!

Shakin’ Jamaican Cold Brew with Caramel Syrup

We’d recommend stirring the coffee WELL before taking your first sip if you’ve added any flavor syrups, as they tend to sink to the bottom.

If you love flavored coffees but not the sweetness, we’d probably skip the syrup and opt for the Shakin’ Jamaican Cold Brew on its own — but for $4.29, we just might have to get this again (and maybe add some ice cream to it, we like to dream big).

Something about coffee in Disney World just hits different.

FIRST LOOK at the FOOD Coming to Connections Eatery in EPCOT

EPCOT is undergoing some massive changes right now, and a whole bunch of new things are on the way!

Connections Cafe

A new Moana-themed attraction and the new Guardians of the Galaxy coaster are just some of the many new things that will soon be added to EPCOT. Another new thing fans will soon be able to experience in this park has to do with something so integral to our very being that it’s in our name…FOOD (we are Disney Food Blog after all!). Connections Cafe & Eatery will bring a new Starbucks location and more treats to this iconic park, and though we’ve already gotten a look at the space’s design and more, today we got some HUGE news.

Today, Disney shared a FIRST LOOK at some of the new dishes that fans will be able to munch on once the Connections Eatery opens up this spring!

©Disney

The restaurant will be quick-service, and will draw inspiration from the many cuisines you can find all around the world. According to Disney, “the purpose of Connections Eatery is to show us how food has the power to bring us together if we open our minds (and our stomachs)!”

©Disney

Guests will get to see the chefs in action as they make final touches on some sweet treats or craft the perfect pizza dough. But enough about the space, let’s talk about the FOOD!

First up, we’ve got some burgers and sandwiches. The menu will include a French Bistro Burger with Caramelized Onion, Bacon, Brie, Mushrooms and Dijon Mayonnaise

©Disney

…a Southwestern Burger with a roasted chipotle-corn salsa and guacamole spread

©Disney

…a Vietnamese-inspired Banh Mi Burger

©Disney

…and also a Greek-inspired Mediterranean Burger. Sounds like quite the selection for sandwich and burger fans!

©Disney

There will also be salads, including a Niçoise-style Salad with potatoes, white and green beans, and olives drizzled with a delicious Dijon vinaigrette

©Disney

…and a General Tso Chicken Salad, which will have a Petite Kale Blend, Broccoli Slaw, Red Bell Pepper, Mandarin Oranges, Edamame, Crispy Wontons, Warm Fried Chicken and General Tso’s Dressing.

©Disney

Then, we come to the pizzas! There will be 4 pizzas available, including a Meatball Pizza

©Disney

Curry Spice Pizza, topped with carrots, potato, peas, and lime “yogurt” (which appears to be plant-based)…

©Disney

…and a Pepperoni Pizza with Pepperoni, San Marzano Tomato and Basil Sauce, Mozzarella Blend and a Petite Side Salad.

Kiddos will have some specific kid-friendly options here too. The kids menu will include a Grilled Chicken Bao, Chicken Nuggets Basket, and Cheeseburger.

©Disney

And (of course) you’ve got to leave room for dessert! The Liege Waffle will be one of Connections Eatery’s dessert options. This is made with brioche yeast dough stuffed with pearl sugar and finished with some fun toppings.

©Disney

There will be some unique drinks to pick from too including shakes! Specifically, Disney has shared that there will be a Mango-Coconut Milk Shake, topped off with a pomegranate molasses drizzle…

©Disney

…and an Apple Pie Gelato Shake! YUM!

©Disney

Other beverages will be available at this spot too, including a Watermelon-Mint Agua Fresca (alcohol-free)…

©Disney

…wines and draft beers, and even a Cucumber and Thai Basil Cooler (alcoholic).

©Disney

As we mentioned, Connections Cafe will feature a Starbucks inside which will be designed to fit its surroundings. We can’t wait to see what this all looks like and share our FULL thoughts with you.
