NEWS: Disney Wins 6 Awards at the 2022 Oscars

The 2022 Oscar Academy Awards took place last night, on March 27th. The night was highlighted by several memorable moments, including the first-ever live performance of Encanto‘s “We Don’t Talk About Bruno.”

Disney received 23 Oscar nominations leading up to this event, and they ended up winning 6 awards with 5 different films. Check out their awards — including some for best actresses, best animated feature film, best costume design, and more — here!

First up, Walt Disney Animation Studios’ Encanto took home Best Animated Feature Film. The popular movie has been the recipient of several awards already, including some from the Golden Globe Awards, Producers Guild Awards, BAFTA Awards, NAACP Image Awards, among others.

Encanto

Encanto is also the first Disney movie ever to have both a Number 1 album and a Number 1 single! Although the wildly popular song “We Don’t Talk About Bruno” wasn’t nominated for an Oscar (since Disney submitted “Dos Oruguitas” instead for consideration as Best Original Song), it was performed live during the awards ceremony by some of the original cast as well as guest celebrity singers.

Ariana DeBose won Best Actress in a Supporting Role for her performance in Steven Spielberg’s 2021 remake of West Side Story. DeBose played Anita in the film. This was the first time an Afro-Latina and openly queer woman of color has received this award. Rita Moreno, who played Anita in the original film, also won an Oscar for her performance in the 1961 movie, which makes Moreno and DeBose the first pair of women to win the award for playing the same character.

For those who have seen Disney’s Cruella, it may come as no surprise that this film won Best Costume Design at the 2022 Oscars. Designer Jenny Beavan accepted this award and has also received recognition for her work on Cruella in the form of a BAFTA award, a Critics Choice Award, and a Costume Designers Guild Award.

Searchlight Pictures’ The Eyes of Tammy Faye won two awards. The film won Best Actress in a Leading Role for Jessica Chastain’s part as Tammy Faye Bakker.

This movie also won an award for Best Makeup and Hairstyling.

Searchlight Pictures’ Summer of Soul (…Or, When the Revolution Could Not Be Televised) won the award for Best Documentary. This is just one of 55 awards that this film has won since its release in the summer of 2021. You can watch Summer of Soul on Hulu now.

Springtime Shopping at Disney Springs

Spring is such a vibrant time of year with so much to celebrate. With family festivities like Mother’s Day, Easter and graduation season, along with longer days and warmer weather – the excitement is in full bloom! In the spirit of the season, I’ve rounded up a few of my favorite springtime shopping finds from Disney Springs.

Why You Should Stop Ignoring This ✨Unique✨ Disney World Hotel!

Disney World has a LOT of hotels and you might have your favorites, but are you ignoring one of Disney World’s BEST and most unique hotels?

Fort Wilderness

Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort and Campground is a HIGHLY-rated hotel. On Yelp, the campgrounds have 4 out of 5 stars and the cabins have 4.5 out of 5 stars! Still, a lot of folks might not consider staying at a cabin or campground. So, what makes this hotel so great?

The Recreation

The MAIN thing that makes Fort Wilderness stand out is the recreation! The hotel has a LOT of recreation options — more various than ANY. OTHER. Disney World hotel. That’s pretty wild when you consider it’s a value/moderate level.

Fort Wilderness

First up, the resort has Campfire nights that feature none other than Chip and Dale! Most resort hotels have campfire recreation options, but it’s not often that you have a regular character sighting outside of character dining.

Campfire Sing-A-Long

Like other hotels, there are rental options where you can snag bikes, fishing supplies, and boat rentals. BUT, this spot also has access to canoe and kayak rentals so you can have a watery afternoon! And, you can find sports courts around the property too with games like tennis, volleyball, basketball, shuffleboard, and tetherball!

Canoes

The main pool, Meadow Swimmin’ Pool, is currently mid-renovation but offers a corkscrew waterslide, whirlpool spa, and SNACK BAR. But would you believe it when we say that all that isn’t even PART of the most interesting recreation at the resort?

Work happening on the slide!

Fort Wilderness really stands OUT with some adventurous recreation options. If you love horses, this could be the resort for you. Tri Circle D Ranch is a great spot to visit to see horses, but you can also take Trail Rides for $55 per person and Carriage Rides for $55, and kiddos can take Pony Rides for $8 per person! Plus, though temporarily unavailable, this resort has also offered Wagon Rides and Sleigh Rides.

Tri Circle D Ranch

Speaking of Sleigh Rides, this resort also has a LOT of holiday fun during certain times of the year. Even better, it’s a bit of a tradition for guests at Fort Wilderness to decorate their golf carts, cabins, and campgrounds depending on when they visit!

Fort WIlderness Decorations

Oh, and did we mention ARCHERY!? You can learn to shoot a bow and arrow for $45 per person. If that’s not the coolest recreation offering at a Disney World hotel, we don’t know what is.

Archery

Finally, this resort offers the VERY unique Wilderness Backtrail Adventure. This two-hour experience is a SEGWAY TOUR around the resort with a knowledgeable Cast Member guide. How fun!

Click here to learn more about Tri Circle D Ranch!

The Accommodations and Cost

But the recreation isn’t the ONLY thing that makes this resort stand out, it also has very unique accommodations and more affordable costs than many other Disney World resorts.

©Disney

The cabins, which sleep SIX, range from $430 to $830 per night. That’s expensive, but when you consider that these private spots feature a full kitchen and plenty of room for your family, they seem pretty cheap! Compare the price to any other room with a full kitchen around Disney World and you’re looking at a pretty good value for this on-property room. Plus, you can pre-order to have your pantry filled with groceries when you arrive!

Fort Wilderness Cabin ©Disney

Though you might not traditionally consider camping the move in Disney World, the campgrounds at Fort Wilderness are NICE. All of them feature electricity and water and some of the premium campgrounds and spots for RVs even feature other amenities like sewer hookups and cable! The spots range from $90 to $300 depending on amenities and season.

Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground

AND, as the cherry on top, this resort is pet-friendly! The campgrounds and many of the cabins welcome your pups and the resort even has some amenities just for them! There’s an off-leash DOG PARK and pet walks!

The Location

Fort Wilderness also has a very good location. It’s in the Magic Kingdom resort area with boat transportation DIRECTLY to Magic Kingdom. You might need to hop on an internal bus to get to the marina, but that’s still a pretty PRIME spot.

Boat Launch

Beyond that, the location on Seven Seas Lagoon means you also have views of the Electrical Water Pageant and Magic Kingdom fireworks if you find your way to the marina area!

To learn more about Magic Kingdom fireworks, click here!

The Dining

Finally, you know we have to mention it, we’re fans of the DINING at Fort Wilderness! Expect comfort food favorites from Trail’s End, Crockett’s Tavern, P and J’s Southern Takeout, and The Chuck Wagon.

Trail’s End Breakfast

AND, though it is currently unavailable, this resort is also home to the most popular dinner show in all of Disney World — Hoop Dee Doo Musical Revue! Fried chicken and song and dance? Sign us up!

Click here to see more of Hoop Dee Doo!

The moral of the story is DON’T ignore Fort Wilderness Resort and Campground! Even if you’re not staying, a day spent experiencing the recreation there could be a great addition to your vacation! So, go shoot a bow and hop on a horse for your own wilderness fun. And, as always, keep an eye on DFB for the latest Disney World updates!

Welcome Sign Missing at Universal Orlando CityWalk Entrance

We noticed the large sign welcoming guests to Universal Orlando Resort at the entrance to CityWalk is missing today.

This is what guests typically see upon entering CityWalk. The large wording reads, “Welcome to Universal Orlando Resort!” Earlier this week, the word “Orlando” was missing.

Today, the sign looks like this. All of the wording has been removed.

You can see the holes for the letters here if you look closely.

We are unsure if this change is for the refurbishment of the lettering or to replace the sign with a new logo.

Are you visiting Universal Orlando Resort soon? Let us know in the comments.

Park Garbage Can Replicas Coming April 28 to Tokyo Disney Resort

Everyone loves the themed garbage cans found at the Disney Resorts worldwide, and we’ve seen plenty of love for them here in Japan. From a special Baymax overlay in Tomorrowland to mini garbage can-shaped pencil sharpeners, Tokyo Disney Resort knows how much we love our trash! So it’s no surprise that the resort will release two mini garbage cans for use at home based on two iconic designs found at Tokyo Disneyland and Tokyo DisneySea.

World Bazaar Garbage Can – ¥5000 ($40.35)

At Tokyo Disneyland’s The Home Store, guests can pick up this mini-garbage can for their home based on the oxidized copper green-colored garbage cans found around World Bazaar, the park’s version of Main Street, U.S.A. The can will stand 36cm (14in) by 21cm (7in) wide and deep.

Tower of Terror Garbage Can – ¥5000 ($40.35)

Meanwhile, the garbage can at the Villa Donaldo Home Shop in Tokyo DisneySea will be based on the garbage cans found in and around the Tower of Terror. The cans are a deep blue with the logo for the New York City Preservation Society on all four sides, which is the organization in the attraction’s backstory dedicated to preserving the Hotel Hightower, the setting of Tokyo’s Tower of Terror.

Both of these garbage cans go on sale April 28 at their respective parks, so be sure to pop in on your next visit to bring that theme park touch home to your garbage cans! And let us know if you’ll be picking these up in the comments below.

Are you considering or planning a visit to Tokyo Disney Resort? Visit TDRPlans for every detail (and more) that you’ll need to make your trip the best it can be! Did I mention it’s 100% free?
