REVIEW: An Incredible Drink at Disneyland’s Festival Is HIDING (with Artichokes?)

Okay, we’re looking for fans of one VERY specific food item. Is it you??

California Adventure

There are booths dedicated to all kinds of different snacks and cuisines at Disney California Adventure’s Food and Wine Festival in 2022, but only 1 booth is dedicated to fans of…artichokes? That’s right! If you eat, sleep, and dream about artichokes, the I Heart Artichokes booth might just be what you’ve been searching for your whole life. The name of the booth certainly delivers on an artichoke-filled promise, but does its food hit the mark? We had to find out!

Menu

Here’s a peek at the I Heart Artichokes booth! We gotta say, we love that double heart design, especially with the one in the back that has the little blue sky and clouds (anyone else getting some Andy’s room vibes?).

2022 I Heart Artichokes Booth

On the menu this year at the I Heart Artichokes booth you’ll find a returning dish as well as a new one. There is also a new drink on the menu this year that we’re excited to try!

Just how do these items taste though? And are any of them worth your cash? Let’s find out!

Eats

First up, we’ll start with a dish that is NEW to this booth in 2022 — the Chicharron-crusted Fried Artichoke Dip! This dip is made with Smoked Pepper Crema and features Cacique® Oaxaca Cheese. You can try it for $6.50.

Chicharron-crusted Fried Artichoke Dip

It sounded delicious, but our reporter didn’t love this dish. We were expecting a gooey texture in the middle (like actual artichoke dip), but instead, the texture was a lot more like hush puppies. The big pieces of olive might put you off if you don’t enjoy that flavor as well. The sauce had a strong smokey flavor. If you really love the flavor of artichoke dip and don’t mind an odd texture, you might really enjoy this!

Also available at I Heart Artichokes is the Artichoke Toast with California Olive Tapenade. This dish is made with a Toasted Sliced Baguette with Artichoke Cream Cheese, topped with a zesty Olive and Artichoke Tapenade, and garnished with a drizzle of Olive Oil. This is a returning dish that we’ve sampled at DCA’s Food and Wine Festivals in the past.

Artichoke Toast with Artichoke Cream Cheese and Olive & Artichoke Tapenade

When we had it back in 2020 it was REALLY tasty, especially if your love language is olives! 😂 The bread was nicely toasted (while still soft in the middle), but the spread itself was our favorite part. Just be warned. The spread is very tapenade-y, so if you don’t love olives this will be a hard pass for you. If you do want to try it, you can grab this dish for $6.75.

Want to get a tasting portion of these dishes? You can if you buy the Sip and Savor Pass. Both of these dishes are eligible for the Sip and Savor Pass — just keep in mind that if you use the Sip and Savor Pass to get them, you’ll get a smaller tasting size (not the full size).

Beverages

You can’t eat all of those artichokes without a good drink, right? At this booth, you can get a brand NEW drink this year — the Passion Fruit Rum Cocktail. The drink is made with White Rum, Cynar, Passion Fruit, Orange, Guava, Orgeat, and Lime and is priced at $15.

Passion Fruit Rum Cocktail

We really enjoyed this drink! It reminded us a little bit of POG juice (passion, orange, and guava juice), which we LOVE. We usually find that drink in Disney World (at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort and other spots), but we’re excited to see it here as well! The rum added to it complemented the tropical flavors very well. The orange flavor especially is very refreshing, and the drink has strong citrus notes. Overall, this was a super tasty drink! If you enjoy tropical flavors (or already love POG juice), we think you’ll enjoy this too.

If you want to get really fancy, you can add a Green Grapes or Red Grapes glow cube charm to any drink for $5.50 at this booth.

Also available at this booth are bottles of DASANI ($4.25) and smartwater ($5).

Overall

If you’re looking to try some new items at the Festival or want some super savory flavors (and you love artichoke), you might want to stop by this booth. But we think that Passion Fruit Cocktail is the real star of this booth!
