REVIEW: Could a Hidden Spot in Disney’s Animal Kingdom Dethrone Cheeseburger Pods?

Disney’s Animal Kingdom can get a bad rap when it comes to food. Everyone tends to give all the glory to Cheeseburger Pods (which we can’t deny are delicious) and forget about the other awesome places to eat — you just have to know WHERE to look!

Kusafiri Coffee Shop and Bakery is a hidden GEM!

One of the hidden gems is Kusafiri Coffee Shop and Bakery, which is located in the Africa section of the park near Kilimanjaro Safaris. We love hitting up this spot for a morning coffee without a long line and some sweet treats, but they also serve up a few savory items too! We’ve already stopped by to try the Spiced Potato Hand Pies and the Marinated Chicken Flatbread Sandwich and now we’re headed back to see if the newest menu addition is a worthy replacement for the Red Chili Hot Dog.

New to the menu is the Marinated Pork Flatbread for $10.49! It features a slice of pita bread with Marinated Pork topped with Cucumber-Tomato Salad, Harissa Aïoli, Greens and served with Seasoned House-made Chips.

We spy a new menu item!

Now, this one is less of a “flatbread” and more of a pita sandwich, but we certainly aren’t complaining! In fact, we liked the pita (which is served warm) BETTER than the regular flatbreads you’ll find in Disney World. And, all those toppings together WORK!

YUM!

It all starts with the moist and flavorful pork and then you’re on the flavor train thanks to all those African spices. And, when we say spice, we more so mean that there’s a lot of garlic, chili, harissa, and maybe even curry flavors in there rather than it actually being hot spicy.

The produce adds a nice fresh crunchy texture to balance out the warm meat and pita too! But, with so much packed in there, we found that eating this got messy.

Look at all that goodness!

The chips really are just your run-of-the-mill Disney chips, but they make for a GREAT spoon to get all the meat and veggies that fall out while enjoying the flatbread.

Chips make a great spoon!

We would definitely order up this flatbread again — and, you might even find us reaching for it over a Create-Your-Own Satu’li Bowl at Satu’li Canteen! But, if you’re not a fan of African spice, then you’ll probably want to pass on this one and opt for something a bit simpler. You could always reach for those beloved Cheeseburger Pods or find something that makes you feel like you’re eating “healthy” theme park food without all the spices at Satu’li Canteen or head over to Pizzafari for some Italian-style dishes.

Of course, we’ll continue to keep an eye out for more new eats and drinks that pop up in Animal Kingdom and around Disney World, so be sure to stay tuned to DFB for the latest!
