Award Wieners at Disney California Adventure has two new items available for the spring: Southwest Cheesesteak and Strawberry Shortcake Funnel Cake Fries.
These “Supporting Cast” items will only be available for a limited time.
Southwest Cheesesteak – $15.49
Thinly-sliced Steak with Caramelized Onions, Poblano Peppers, Pepper Jack, Guacamole and Chipotle Aїoli on a toasted Baguette, served with Cuties® Mandarin Oranges or Filmstrip Fries
We really enjoyed this sandwich in a way we haven’t enjoyed counter service food in a long time. It touched our soul.
The thinly shaved steak is grilled and chopped, making it crispy and delicious. With the addition of a generous portion of cheese, it makes for a great cheesesteak. But then adding the guacamole and poblano peppers pushes it over the top to be fantastic.
It comes with a single roasted serrano chile on top, allowing those who wish for spice to add it in — and it brings the heat fairly well. Without the chile, the poblano offers chile flavor without the heat.
It’s served on a toasted baguette, which completes the sandwich in a hearty crunch that stays soft on the inside. This sandwich, paired with the Filmstrip Fries (the best fries in Disneyland Resort), becomes a lunch that hits the spot in a big way. We highly recommend this cheesesteak and will be returning for it soon.
Strawberry Shortcake Funnel Cake Fries – $8.99
dusted with Cinnamon-Vanilla Sugar, topped with Strawberries and Whipped Topping, drizzled with Strawberry Sauce and garnished with Mint
These are a slightly better version of the traditional funnel cake thanks to the addition of cinnamon vanilla sugar.
This gives a bit of a churro aspect to the tiny sticks of funnel cake fries.
The whipped topping and strawberries are fairly straightforward and nothing to write home about.
That being said, this is a standup, classic treat that can be counted on to be a crowd-pleaser.
