Listen, we’ve eaten a LOT of food in Disney World the past few weeks.
We’ve tried all the new eats at the Flower & Garden Festival in EPCOT, snacked on “space” food aboard the Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser, and even tried new treats in the theme parks for St. Patrick’s Day and the spring season. But now, we’re heading over to Old Key West Resort, where a classic snack got a big change!
The Gurgling Suitcase at Old Key West has been known for serving up conch fritters in the past, but they recently swapped to shrimp fritters because it’s more sustainable in the long run. Today, we stopped by to try them out for ourselves and share our thoughts!
For $13, we got 7 fritters in our basket. They’re sweet cornbread fritters made with chopped shrimp and a mix of herbs and spices, all served with a honey mustard sauce on the side. As far as the taste goes, we thought there was just the right amount of shrimp inside, and that they were fried perfectly — crisp on the outside but still soft and pillowy in the middle.
The honey mustard has a tiny bit of a kick but isn’t hot, and it pairs well with the sweet flavor of the fritter. Even though they come with 7 in a basket, they were fairly small, so it may not be enough to share with someone else as a snack. You may not enjoy them if you’re hoping for something really savory, but if sweet cornbread is your thing, they’ll be perfect!
