We stopped by Paradise Garden Grill to try all the new offerings they have for the 2022 Disney California Adventure Food & Wine Festival. Keep on reading for our review of these new dishes.
Impossible Gyro – $12.99
Seasoned Plant-based Meat served in a Pita Bread with Dairy-free Tzatziki, seasoned Tomatoes, Cucumber and Onions
This is a fairly straightforward, standard gyro sandwich. The Tzatziki is really nice and the vegetables are fresh, but with Shawarma Palace available over in Avengers Campus — a mere five minute walk from here — it boggles the mind as to why someone would choose this sandwich over the delicious Shawarma on that side of the park.
There’s nothing necessarily wrong with this one. It’s just not the best of this type of sandwich available here at Disney California Adventure.
Char Siu Ribs – $16.99
Chinese-inspired Grilled Pork Ribs with Steamed Rice and Almond-Cabbage Salad
These ribs are so tender and amazing, though the Char Siu sauce does leave them being very salty. That’s what’s expected from this dish and it’s not unpleasant, but something to be noted.
The ribs almost fall off the bone and are very satisfying. The Asian noodle salad is tangy and flavorful, with the addition of noodles being a welcome departure from the traditional Asian slaw salad.
The rice is just plain white rice, unremarkable but a welcome pairing to the ribs
Jerk Chicken – $15.99
Caribbean-inspired 1/2 Chicken with Mango-Pineapple Salsa, served with Black Beans, White Rice and Fried Plantains
This is hearty and flavorful. The half chicken has a delicious rub of seasoning on the outside and is cooked perfectly, being moist and juicy inside.
The plantain accompaniment is very bland and dry. We would advise skipping this all together and just leave it on the plate. The rice and black beans are fine; a decent accompaniment to the chicken, but nothing to write home about.
Beer-Battered Fish Tacos – $13.49
Baja-style Beer-battered Fish on Corn Tortillas, topped with Slaw, Pico de Gallo, Cilantro Crema and Lime Wedge, with House-made Tortilla Chips and Roasted Red Chile-Tomato Salsa
The fish is nice and crispy but overall, this dish is lacking flavor. The slaw topping is also crispy and refreshing, but this really needed a nice sauce to add some flavor and bring it together.
It’s a fine fish taco for a theme park, but not going to blow you away.
Brisket Fries – $13.49
French Fries topped with Shredded Smoked BBQ Brisket, Cheddar Cheese Sauce, Pico de Gallo, Chipotle Crema and Green Onions
These fries are pretty good, about as good as loaded fries can be.
Unfortunately, they are advertised with brisket but they were served with pulled pork.
That being said, the pulled pork is delicious and the barbecue sauce is thick and sweet, which contrasts with the cheese and the red pepper crema very well. But we still miss the brisket a little bit. That would have been nice.
