Why Tower of Terror’s LONG Wait Times Won’t End Anytime Soon

Waiting in line is just the name of the game when it comes to riding attractions at Disney World.

Wait times can be LONG in Disney World

Of course, you can opt to purchase Disney Genie+ or Individual Attraction Selections that let you “skip the line,” but sometimes there’s just no way around a wait — especially when there are unexpected refurbishments and closures. And, as spring break crowds flock to the Disney Parks this week, it may be no surprise that Tower of Terror has well over an hour wait in Disney’s Hollywood Studios. But, there’s actually something else that’s adding to the time you spend listening to the somber-themed music in line — and the long lines may last MUCH longer than the crowds.

Over the past few days, we’ve been noticing that Tower of Terror has a wait time of 100+ minutes, even hitting 150 minutes yesterday. Now, a long wait time isn’t anything new for this popular attraction, but when it lasted ALL day we knew that something was up. So, we did some digging.

We spoke with a Cast Member at the attraction today who shared that two of the elevators are currently CLOSED. So, why is that such a big deal? Well, when you glance up at Tower of Terror, you can see two elevator shafts that send guests screaming as they plummet to the ground. But, there are actually more elevators running at a time — a total of FOUR!

So, with two of the elevators currently closed, the ride is only running at HALF of its total capacity for the day leading to a MUCH longer line. And, it looks like the long waits could stretch much longer than you might expect. The Cast Member explained to us that Disney crews will be working on the other two elevators after they complete the work on the current two. They said that this could take “months before they are operating at full capacity.”

Creeeeeeepy!

Now, if Tower of Terror is a must-do attraction for you at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, we would recommend arriving at park opening and heading straight for the attraction. This can also be a great time to take advantage of Early Theme Park Entry if you’re a Disney World hotel guest to ensure that you get on the ride without much of a wait. And, if waking up early just isn’t in the cards for your park day, you can consider purchasing Disney Genie+ (which is $15 per person, per day) to bypass the line or grab yourself a snack and wait it out.
