Lately, Disney has been investing quite a bit of time and energy into its real estate projects, including a recently announced affordable housing project in Orlando and a luxurious master-planned community, Cotino, in California’s Coachella Valley. As plans for these communities continue to take shape, Disney has just released details on the groundbreaking ceremony for Cotino.
According to Disney, the much-anticipated groundbreaking ceremony will occur on April 26th, 2022, at 10AM. The private, media-only event will OFFICIALLY kick off construction for the community. However, according to The Desert Sun, the land is already an active construction site, with watering and mass grading already underway behind the construction fencing.

Once ground is broken, the grading of the massive, 618-acre site should take between nine and twelve months. Building permits will also need to be acquired and various city commissions and boards in Rancho Mirage will need to approve the details.

Per plans, Cotino — the first Storyliving community being developed by Disney — will include a 24-acre swimmable lagoon, resort hotel, and 1,900 housing units, ranging from estates to single-family homes to condominiums. Part of the community will be reserved for residents ages 55 and older. Additionally, commercial and retail buildings, restaurants, and private amenities at the Lagoon for homeowners choosing to become club members are all planned for Cotino.
