It’s another day, and another opening here at Walt Disney World. Some weeks are just like that, and I’m not one to complain about it, that’s for sure. Connections Café and Eatery in EPCOT is soft opening today, and while only the Starbucks portion of things is up and running, I just had to swing by and take a look around. And I’m really glad that I did.
The space that will be home to both the park’s Starbucks location and a quick service, fast-casual dining location is open and airy. The cantilevered wood ceilings match that of Creations Shop across the breezeway.
The space that formerly housed the two-story Electric Umbrella has tons of tables and seating arrangements. While we no longer have two levels, we still have the same ceiling height, and mannn do those ceilings soar.
The white textured walls lend a clean feel to things, and provide a neutral background for touches of color that can be found throughout. The mural that covers a quarter of the back wall of the restaurant is gorgeous.
And please take a moment to stop and take note of the Eatery’s lighting fixtures. They’re doing the heavy lifting here. And they’re pretty spectacular.
All of the globally-inspired coffee and tea sets in the restaurant’s focal display case? Gorgeous. And the display helps to remind guests of EPCOT’s theme. It’s an incredibly nice touch, in my book.
Three huge show kitchen areas can be found in the restaurant. Only one was being utilized today, but it was so much fun watching the pastry chefs at work.
All of the Starbucks lovers in the park were happy campers this afternoon when I came by. Yes, there were plenty of people in the queue, but I didn’t hear anyone complaining. Everyone was getting their favorite drinks and seemed happy just to be in the new space.
As you might imagine, when the Eatery portion of things opens up at this location, we’ll be back with bells on. We’ll try everything on the menu and will share our thoughts with you.
Me? I think it’s time for a Black and White Mocha.
