Fan-Made Club Penguin Shut Down, Three Arrested

A fan-made Club Penguin website has been shut down and three individuals were arrested for copyright infringement.

The original Club Penguin website was shut down in 2017. Disney, who purchased Club Penguin in 2007, took action against Club Penguin Rewritten. The fan-made website was launched soon after the original closed.

A statement from DC Daryl Fryatt of the City of London Police’s IP crime unit was posted on the Club Penguin Rewritten website. The statement said a complaint was made under copyright law and that three people were arrested on April 12 “on suspicion of distributing materials infringing copyright.” The three individuals have been released under investigation and agreed to sign over control of the website to the police.

A Discord for the website was erased except for an admin message stating “we have voluntarily given control over the website to the police for them to continue their copyright investigation.”

This is just the latest Club Penguin remake to be shut down. In May 2020, another website was shut down due to both copyright infringement and child pornography.
