Best Brands Consumer Products, Inc. is voluntarily recalling Mickey Mouse and “The Mandalorian” hand sanitizers that the FDA found to contain potentially harmful chemicals. Both products were produced by a third-party manufacturer and imported by Best Brands.
FDA testing found the presence of benzene, which is classified as a human carcinogen, in “The Mandalorian” hand sanitizer. Substantial exposure can occur through inhalation, orally, or through the skin and could result in life-threatening cancers and blood disorders.
The FDA found methanol in the Mickey Mouse hand sanitizer. Substantial exposure to methanol can cause nausea, vomiting, headache, blurred vision, coma, seizures, blindness, damage to the central nervous system, or death. The risk is present for anyone using the product on their hands, but more so for anyone who accidentally ingests the product.
Best Brands was notified of these test results by the FDA in late February, then conducted their own investigation, finding both affected lots were produced during April and May 2020. Both products were already removed from sale in April 2021 for unrelated commercial reasons.
Best Brands has not received any reports of adverse effects related to the products. If you have experienced problems with the product, you can report the issues to FDA’s MedWatch Adverse Event Reporting program. Contact your physician or healthcare provider about any medical issues.
