Super Mario Bros. Film Delayed to Spring 2023

The upcoming Super Mario Bros. movie from Universal and Illumination Entertainment has been delayed to 2023.

The film was originally scheduled to be released on December 21, 2022. Super Mario Bros. creator Shigeru Miyamoto announced on April 25 that it would instead be released in spring 2023.

“After consulting with Chris-san, [producer Chris Meledandri,] my partner at Illumination on the Super Mario Bros. film, we decided to move the global release to Spring 2023,” Miyamoto said. “My deepest apologies, but I promise it will be well worth the wait.”

The film will be released on April 7 in North America and April 28 in Japan.

Universal has moved “Puss In Boots: The Last Wish” from September 23 to December 21 to have a holiday release.

Gideon’s Bakehouse Does Halfway to Halloween RIGHT In Disney World (Are You Surprised?)

Earlier this week, Disney announced that it would be celebrating Halfway to Halloween both in the parks and with events that guests can take part in at home. We’ve already heard some BIG announcements for this event, including the return of Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party in Disney World!

Spooky Season!!

We’ve also seen a look at some upcoming Halloween merchandise, checked out Halloween parties coming to other parks, and gushed over Mickey & Minnie’s new costumes for Disneyland’s spooky event. In addition to all the announcements, Disney is holding a virtual Hocus Pocus viewing party and has also released special digital wallpapers! And as if that weren’t enough, there are some limited-time treats available in Disney World to celebrate Halfway to Halloween. Let’s take a look at a few of these delicious options now.

Gideon’s Bakehouse in Disney Springs is already pretty spooky year-round, making it the perfect place to celebrate Halloween in April. For a limited time, you will be able to snag 3 Halloween treats at this spot!

Gideon’s Bakehouse

Beginning April 28th and lasting until May 1st, you can get Pumpkin Spice Shadow Cakes, a Frankenstein Cake Slice, or the Valentina Cake. We’ve already tried out that Frankenstein Cake (it was here for Halloween last year!), and we know it’s a cookies ‘n’ cream–lover’s DREAM.

Frankenstein Cake

This cake is a 3-layer chocolate cake covered in cookies ‘n’ cream buttercream and loaded with M&Ms. You can only get it Thursday through Sunday in Disney Springs.

Check out our full review of the Frankenstein Cake here!

So today we’re heading into the Springs to try out the other 2 limited-time options.

Let’s go in!

The Pumpkin Spice Shadow Cake is a brand-new, limited-edition flavor. It’s a chocolate-dipped spice cake with a pumpkin buttercream filling between the 2 cake layers. You can get 2 mini-cakes per person, but you’ll want to hurry! Gideon’s is only selling 200 per day.

Pumpkin Spice Shadow Cake

The flavors from pumpkin icing, spice cake, and chocolate ganache all work together really well in this treat. But be warned: It’s VERY sweet! The dense cake and thick layer of buttercream make it perfect for those with a massive sweet tooth but maybe a little too much if you’re looking for a more subtle dessert.

SUPER sweet!

In our experience, we usually prefer Gideon’s cookies or cake slices to their shadow cakes. Still, we’re excited to find pumpkin-flavored treats in Disney World, even if it’s only for a short time! You can try the shadow cakes for $7 each.

Yum!

⁣⁣⁣And the other new offering is the Valentina Cake. This is a classic red velvet cake covered in light and fluffy cookies ‘n’ cream marshmallow buttercream. There’s a limit of 2 per person, and they’re only available this Thursday through Sunday.

Valentina’s Cake

Like the other cake, this treat is best for those with a sweet tooth! The frosting is delicious, with actual cookies mixed in. And there’s almost as much frosting as there is cake. Surprisingly, when you eat the buttercream with the cake, it’s not actually too sweet (but we still definitely couldn’t finish the whole thing in one sitting!).

So good!

The classic red velvet flavor blends well with the buttercream, although the dominant flavor is definitely the cookies ‘n’ cream frosting. You can grab a slice for $9.

Best for those with a sweet tooth

In addition to the new cakes, every 4- and 6-cookie box will come with 1 of 16 exclusive trading cards specific to Halfway to Halloween, plus a bonus card for those waiting in line!

Hurry in to Gideon’s Bakehouse if you want to try these treats! They’re only around for a little while. As always, make sure to keep reading DFB for more Disney food reviews and news.

New Downtown Disney District Logo Visible in Reimagining Concept Art

Concept art of Downtown Disney District

New concept art for the reimagining of Downtown Disney District at Disneyland Resort seems to reveal a new logo for the district.

The evolution of the Downtown Disney District at the Disneyland Resort in Anaheim, Calif. began in 2018, and the transformation work continues to introduce more innovative shopping, dining and entertainment experiences. Drawing inspiration from Southern California mid-century modern architecture, the west-end area will be a beautiful blend of vibrant color palettes, design elements and patterns influenced by the region, and will include an open lawn for relaxation and future events, and an even broader and diverse collection of dining and shopping. (Artist Concept/Disneyland Resort)

The logo, seen in the background of the concept art, is blue and white. It reads just “Downtown Disney,” with no “District.” It uses the same Walt Disney signature font used in the updated Walt Disney Imagineering logo, seen below.

Note how the “D”s all have a unique curve at the top.

How do you feel about this potential new Downtown Disney District logo? Let us know in the comments.

Digger Rolls Into Downtown Disney District Construction Site

Since the AMC Theater was completely demolished, there hasn’t been much to see beyond the colorful construction walls in Downtown Disney District. During our most recent trip, we could see a digger vehicle.

The digger was atop a hill of rocks, so it was clearly visible over the walls.

The Downtown Disney reimagining started with demolition back in February. Guests will be able to relax in a new grassy area, and there will be an event space.

For now, Disney is still taking care of the building rubble.

Some whale art was added to the construction walls.

The two works of art are inspired by original drawings by Wyland.

In November, Disney Parks Experiences and Products President Josh D’Amaro announced the reimagining of Downtown Disney District at Destination D23.

Above, you can see the concept art for the finished project.
