How Netflix will Crack Down on Password Sharing

There is a lot of competition when it comes to streaming services like Disney+ and Netflix.

Netflix has been a leader in the streaming world for a while now, but Disney+ is challenging that lead and is actually expected to pass Netflix in number of subscribers in the next few years. Netflix has also been losing subscribers, and now, a new move could cause them to lose even more.

Netflix is planning on cracking down on password sharing, according to CNBC. They plan on charging the primary account holder an extra fee for every “sub account” or password sharer.

Netflix said that more than 100 million households are using a shared password, including 30 million in the United States and Canada. Instead of freezing those shared accounts, Netflix will most likely set an extra fee for those accounts being used by multiple people outside of the home, according to CNBC.

The company already began testing this feature in Peru, Chile, and Costa Rica. Netflix charged an additional fee to add “sub accounts” for up to 2 people outside of the home. The pricing is different in each country, but in these the fees were about $2.13 per month in Peru, $2.99 in Costa Rica, and $2.92 in Chile.

Netflix is allowing people who use a shared password to transfer their personalized profile info to either a new account or a sub account, which will let you keep your viewing history and recommendations.

If you’ve got a sister, let’s say, that’s living in a different city, you want to share Netflix with her, that’s great. We’re not trying to shut down that sharing, but we’re going to ask you to pay a bit more to be able to share with her and so that she gets the benefit and the value of the service, but we also get the revenue associated with that viewing,” said Chief Operating Officer Greg Peters, according to CNBC.

Peters also said that he thought it would take about a year to put its sub account pricing into use globally and suggested that the company may still tweak pricing or further review its test strategy.

No other major streamer has ever cracked down on password sharing like this before, and likely will not until they see how it goes for Netflix. It’s also unclear how Netflix will handle password sharing when it comes to situations like a family member temporarily living away from home, like when kids go off to college.

‘Star Wars: Andor’ Possibly Shortened to Three Seasons Instead of Five

Star Wars: Andor logo

Right now, we’re all excited about “Obi-Wan Kenobi,” coming soon to Disney+, but another live-action “Star Wars” show is also in the works — “Andor” starring Diego Luna as Cassian Andor, who first appeared in “Rogue One.” The show has already been renewed for a second season, even though the first has not yet aired. We now know the show was originally supposed to be five seasons but will probably only have three.

Andor News on Twitter translated a Brazilian interview with the director of photography Adriano Goldman, in which he said (originally in Portuguese) the series “was supposed to be five seasons long but I think it’s not happening, it will have three maybe.”

“Andor” will be a prequel to “Rogue One,” but not much else is known about the series. An air date has not been set.

This Thursday, we will be halfway to Halloween (can you believe it?)! This morning, Disney shared some ways they will be celebrating the special occasion this week. So if you’re a big fan of spooky season, check out all the ways you can celebrate Halloween in April!

Disney has already announced some Halloween-themed treats that will be available at both Disney World and Disneyland. They also announced that they will release an at-home guide so that you can make a Disney Halloween snack at home!

On Wednesday, you’ll be able to join a Hocus Pocus watch party on the Disney Parks Twitter! The watch party will begin at 8PM EST. You’ll also be able to download Halloween-themed digital wallpaper for your devices on Wednesday, as well.

Hocus Pocus show

All of these events are leading up to the actual halfway to Halloween holiday, which is Thursday. Thursday will bring some Halloween announcements from the parks, plus a TikTok live on the Disney Parks TikTok page. So we might learn more about what the Halloween celebrations will look like this year in the parks. Will we see the after-hours Boo Bash again? Or will Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party return? We’re hoping to find out on Thursday!

Happy, Happy HALLOWEEN!

On Thursday, guests visiting the Disney parks are encouraged to Disneybound in Halloween-inspired outfits. Disneybounding is when you go to the parks in regular clothes inspired by a Disney character without actually wearing a costume (remember that adults can’t dress up in full costumes in the Disney parks).

First Rock Work Takes Shape at Journey of Water Inspired by ‘Moana’ in EPCOT

The first faux rock work is visible at the construction site of Journey of Water Inspired by “Moana” in EPCOT.

We saw this steel tower structure go up last week.

Around the corner, we could see the rock shape against one of the long curved walls.

The shape of the rocks is created by wire mesh.

Several small concrete elements are scattered around the rock work.

Steel supports are behind the rock work.

It is surrounded by orange net fencing.

No rock work has been added to the other walls and structures in the area, but there are several more support poles.

Journey of Water will be a walkthrough attraction with interactive water features.

The concrete walls at the center of the site seem to have small pipes extending from it into the ground.

We’ve seen large pipes inside trenches, too.

The steel tower is surrounded by a platform, but most of the ground remains unpaved.

Another structure is inside the ground, with wooden railings around the edge of it.

There is no announced opening timeframe for Journey of Water Inspired by “Moana.”
