The Wizarding World of Harry Potter at the Universal Orlando Resort has recently added some plant-based offerings, so we decided to take a trip to the Three Broomsticks to try the new Mushroom Pie.
Mushroom Pie – $15.99
Stewed jackfruit and mushroom pie served with cucumber and tomato side salad with lemon and thyme vinaigrette dressing
The mushroom pie is served in a bowl and the pastry crust is placed on top. It looks beautiful and we can’t wait to dig in. There are several jackfruit dishes around the parks that we love, so we were looking forward to this new mushroom pie with stewed jackfruit.
The mushroom pie comes served with a side salad containing large slices of cucumbers and tomatoes. The lemon and thyme vinaigrette is an excellent addition that adds a nice pop of fresh flavor to the salad. The lemon isn’t overpowering and balances out the flavor of the thyme. It was a pleasant surprise how much we enjoyed this dressing with our salad.
With the first bite, a rich, sweet flavor took over. Large chunks of jackfruit, carrots, potatoes, and mushrooms fills this very thin, stew-like base. This feels more like a bowl of soup topped with a pastry, but it’s absolutely delicious. The pastry top is the perfect buttery pairing for the vegetable stew. The vegan shepherd’s pie at the Magic Neep cart has a much more hearty, savory flavor versus this mushroom pie that is on the sweet side. Both are great new additions to the Wizarding World and you can’t go wrong with either one.
This would really be perfect on a rainy day.
We highly recommend this mushroom pie if you’re looking to try something new on your next visit to the Universal Orlando Resort. For more vegan options at Islands of Adventure, we also suggest checking out the Herbivore at the Burger Digs or the Jackfruit Rice Bowl at Thunder Falls Terrace.
