7 Construction Updates to Plan for in Disney World This Week

Hello from Walt Disney World!

Disney’s Animal Kingdom

We’re still reeling from our preview of Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind, and it seems like everywhere you look something new is popping up in the parks! Not only that, but Disney has been keeping us on our toes with a whole slew of exciting announcements. With so much going on in Disney World, it’s important to keep up on all the major projects — so let’s take a look at the biggest Disney World construction updates from this week!

Magic Kingdom

TRON: Lightcycle Run

We finally got to see more ride vehicle testing over at TRON! Our friends over at AllEars.net caught some of the vehicles being tested.

And to top it all off, Walt Disney Imagineering shared the first full-speed test run of the rollercoaster in a new video as well! This is the next step in the testing process, and soon weighted dummies will be added to the vehicles as well.

There’s still no word on when TRON: Lightcycle Run might open, so stay tuned to DFB for the latest updates!

EPCOT

Journey of Water — Inspired by Moana

Slowly but surely, things are taking shape at EPCOT’s first immersive, water-based walkthrough attraction, Journey of Water — Inspired by Moana. Crews are placing more rock formations in the construction zone…

… and we’ve even got some updated concept art from Disney!

If you’re making your way to Disney’s Land Pavilion, you might want to know that one of the escalators is currently out of commission!

Toy Story Mania Gift Shop

Guests exiting Toy Story Mania have been rerouted through an exit detour for quite some time, and it doesn’t look like that’s going to change any time soon.

Disney is renovating the Toy Story Mania Gift Shop — but into what? So far Disney has remained quiet on exactly what will happen to the location!

Disney Resorts

Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort

Work is continuing on the new DVC Villas at Disney’s Grand Floridian resort, and there is quite a bit of scaffolding all over the exterior of the Big Pine Key building.

Disney has stated that the renovations are scheduled to be completed this summer, but we’ll keep an eye out for any major updates!

If you’re heading to Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort any time soon, you might want to know that quite a few walkways are closed off to make way for brand new DVC villas.

Spirit of Aloha is closed.

For now, guests will have to take the scenic route around the Polynesian. The renovations are scheduled to be completed in late 2024, so stay tuned!
