One of Disney World’s newest shows has already changed in a major way!
Look at Simba fly!
Disney KiteTails, the show featuring giant kites from The Lion King or The Jungle Book, debuted in October 2021 in Disney’s Animal Kingdom. Despite being less than a year old, Disney recently announced plans to change the show, which resulted in shorter but more frequent shows. Now we have a few more details about this change so that you can be sure to catch KiteTails during your next visit!
Not long ago, KiteTails switched to walk-by viewing rather than seated showtimes in the Discovery River Amphitheater. You can now catch your favorite kites from several spots around the Discovery River Lagoon more frequently, but there are no set showtimes, and there is no longer a pre-show.
Simba is still in the NEW version of KiteTails
We recently spoke with a Cast Member about this new form of KiteTails and we were told that you can generally catch snippets of what used to be the full KiteTails show every 20 minutes around the Discovery River Lagoon daily between 9:10AM and 3:10PM. During our recent visit, we observed performances that were around 5 minutes or less, but they were basically mini versions of the previous show (which was around 10 minutes long).

Most of the guests in the area stood around the water to catch the shows but you can still sit in the Discovery River Amphitheater for the shortened performances. We still heard favorite tunes like “Hakuna Matata!”
