In a gathering on Monday, Florida governor Ron DeSantis stated that he is currently working on a proposed plan of action that would have the state of Florida taking over control of Reedy Creek Improvement District (RCID) rather than the local governments of Osceola and Orange counties and the cities of Bay Lake and Lake Buena Vista absorbing it.

DeSantis said that his proposal is likely to be considered after the completion of November’s elections. Reedy Creek is slated to be dissolved June 1st, 2023, and the governor has stated that under his proposal, the district’s firefighters could possibly see a pay increase.

Under DeSantis’ proposal, Disney would continue paying taxes, thus allowing for the services needed to operate Walt Disney World and the Disney resorts.

“The path forward is, Disney will not control its own government in the state of Florida. Disney will have to follow the same laws that every other company has to follow in the state of Florida. They will pay their share of taxes, and they will be responsible for paying the debts.” -Gov. Ron DeSantis
