Scenes were reportedly filmed for “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness” featuring Ghost Rider, but ultimately hit the cutting room floor. Spoilers for the film are below.
Insider James Clement revealed on The Weekly Planet podcast that Ghost Rider was supposed to appear as a member of the Illuminati, a group of superheroes Doctor Strange encounters on Earth-838.
“So somebody sent me a list of five characters that were going to be in this movie that were cut,” Clement said. He asked if scenes with these characters were filmed. “And this person said, ‘Filmed but ultimately cut from the theatrical version… Ghost Rider, [who was a] very interesting… member of the Illuminati… I guess [he] was [likely] going to fight Wanda and probably die…”
Clement did not say who played Ghost Rider or which version of the character appeared. Gabriel Luna portrayed Robbie Reyes as Ghost Rider in the fourth season of “Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” The Johnny Blaze incarnation briefly appeared in one episode. The Darkhold was also a major plot device of this season before it appeared in “WandaVision” and “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.”
Before “Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.”, Nicolas Cage portrayed the Johnny Blaze version of Ghost Rider in the eponymous film. He reprised the role in “Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance” and Fergus Riordan appeared as Danny Ketch, another Ghost Rider from the comics.
It was recently revealed that Daniel Craig was originally supposed to appear in “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness” as Balder the Brave.
