We learned last month that the Celestial Eson would be the villain of Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind at EPCOT. Though Eson had appeared briefly in the first “Guardians of the Galaxy” film, his look was updated for the ride. Walt Disney Imagineers actually consulted the design team of Marvel’s “Eternals” regarding Eson’s look.
The Direct asked Imagineering about Eson’s design during a preview of Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind. According to the Imagineers, updating Eson’s appearance was to create a more “cohesive” look for the Celestials in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
In “Guardians of the Galaxy,” Eson is large, but still walks on land. He has six eyes glowing through a boxy helmet.
In Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind, Eson is larger than life, towering over planets, just like Arishem appeared in “Eternals.” He has four eyes instead of six and a sleeker helmet design. He also looks generally more weathered and has his own gravitational pull.
Whether we see more of Eson, Arishem, or other Celestials in the MCU, we can expect them to resemble Eson’s new design more than his last.
