In an interview with The Times, producer Jerry Bruckheimer confirmed that he and his team are developing a “Pirates of the Caribbean” script starring Margot Robbie.
When asked if he was working on a “Pirates of the Caribbean” sequel with a female lead, Bruckheimer said, “Yes. We’re talking to Margot Robbie.”
He elaborated that they are actually developing two scripts for the franchise, one starring Robbie and one without her.
The Times asked if Johnny Depp would be back, and Bruckheimer said, “Not at this point. The future is yet to be decided.”
It was first reported by The Hollywood Reporter in 2020 that Robbie had been tapped to play the lead in a sequel/reboot of the franchise. No plot details have been uncovered since then, but it’s thought Robbie would portray Redd, who replaced the original redhead in the auction scene during a reimagining of the Pirates of the Caribbean attraction in 2018.
