Last year, Disney+ announced a new series titled “Nautilus,” inspired by “20,000 Leagues Under the Sea.”
During today’s earnings call, the ten-part live-action series was described as an “origin story of the submarine” told from the perspective of Captain Nemo.
“Nautilus” will be developed and co-produced by Moonriver TV’s Xavier Marchand and Seven Stories’ Anand Tucker. It will be written and executive produced by James Dormer and executive produced by Johanna Devereaux. Filming is set to begin this year.
In 1954, Disney released a film version of “20,000 Leagues Under the Sea” starring James Mason and Kirk Douglas, which went on to inspire now-defunct Disneyland and Walt Disney World attractions.
