In this day and age, there’s a streaming service out there for everyone.
Between Disney+, Hulu, Peacock, and Netflix (among so many others) it can be tough just trying to decide which services are best for you! Disney+ recently announced that a new ad-supported subscription would be coming to the service in late 2022, and they’re not the only ones introducing something like this. Netflix plans on introducing its own ad-supported tier — and it might be happening sooner than originally planned.
According to the Orlando Sentinel, Netflix executives shared in an internal communication that they plan “to introduce the ad tier in the final three months of the year.”
Netflix plans on introducing a lower-priced subscription tier that will allow for commercials to be shown during viewing — something that Netflix had said it would never do. This news comes after Netflix announced that it would start charging subscribers who share their accounts with multiple people.
After losing 200,000 subscribers during the first three months of the year due to rising subscription prices, the new lower-priced tier could bring subscribers back to Netflix — though the tradeoff would be that they’ll now have to sit through ads. Right now, the most popular Netflix plan costs $15.49 per month.
Whether or not this new subscription tier will increase Netflix subscribers remains to be seen, but you can be sure we’ll keep an eye out, so stay tuned to DFB for more!
