One Spot Finally REOPENED in Disney World — But What’s Still CLOSED?

After a preview this week, we’re getting super excited about the official opening of Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind in EPCOT! But with a new ride opening soon, we’ve also been thinking about which rides and attractions are currently unavailable in the parks.

You can have a great time regardless!

So we created a full list of what’s NOT going to be open in Disney World next week. From rides to shows to pools and more, check out everything that will be closed in the parks and hotels.

Let’s start out the list with Magic Kingdom.

Magic Kingdom

The Walt Disney World Railroad is still closed in Magic Kingdom.

No trains here

This attraction doesn’t have an opening date, and we’re not expecting it to reopen until construction is complete on the upcoming TRON: Lightcycle Run roller coaster. That’s because the construction in Tomorrowland has interrupted the tracks, so the Railroad can’t get through right now. But don’t worry — a tunnel is being built for the train to pass through once the ride is completed.

That’s progress!

The Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique is also closed in this park.

Usually, kids can head inside to be transformed into Disney princesses, but the salon has been closed for a while now. We’ll keep an eye out for an opening date and let you know what we find.

Disney’s Animal Kingdom

Finding Nemo: The Musical is a popular show in Animal Kingdom that features our favorite little clownfish. Unfortunately, the show is closed right now.

Signs for Finding Nemo: The Musical have been covered up.

When it reopens, the show will actually be called “Finding Nemo: The Big Blue…and Beyond!” The updated show will be based on Finding Dory, the sequel to Finding Nemo. There will be new characters, settings, and events in the show, so we’re excited to check out the new version.

EPCOT

Although EPCOT looks like one big construction zone right now, there actually aren’t any refurbishments happening at the moment. A lot of NEW things are under construction, but all the existing rides, shops, and attractions should be open to guests. That includes Souk-Al-Magreb in the Morocco pavilion of World Showcase, which has been closed for a long time but finally reopened last week!

It’s open!

So now you can head in to pick up Disney souvenirs, as well as souvenirs inspired by Morocco.

Disney’s Hollywood Studios

Voyage of the Little Mermaid is still closed in Hollywood Studios, and this show doesn’t have a reopening date yet.

Voyage of the Little Mermaid

The popular nighttime show Fantasmic! is also closed in Disney World. This show will return sometime in 2022, but we don’t have any specific details about the opening date yet. We recently got a new look at some of the updates and changes coming to the show, which will include more characters and technological enhancements.

Fantasmic!

Good news for Disneyland fans — the show is returning to Disneyland Park on May 28th, 2022! So if you can’t wait for the Disney World version to return, you could always head over to the West Coast park to watch Fantasmic! there.

Check out all kinds of new souvenirs at Hollywood Studios here.

Disney World Water Parks

Disney’s Blizzard Beach water park is closed for some refurbishments. Disney hasn’t said yet when Blizzard Beach might reopen.

In the meantime, Typhoon Lagoon (Disney’s other water park) is open for guests to visit! So you can still head in to enjoy water rides, pools, and themed snacks.

Check out the dates and tickets for Typhoon Lagoon’s H2O Glow Nights.

Disney World Hotels

Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa

Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa is still open for reservations, but guests will probably see some construction underway during their visit. That’s because Disney is currently working on 200 new DVC Resort Studios, which are located in the Big Pine Key building of this resort.

Construction on the upcoming Resort Studios

If you want to stay in the new rooms, you can book your reservations now (even if you’re not a Disney Vacation Club Member). The rooms will have 2 queen beds and a daybed, and they have a Mary Poppins Returns theme.

The new rooms

They’re expected to be ready in June of 2022.

Take a virtual tour of the new rooms here!

Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort

Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort is also getting some new DVC rooms. Disney is actually constructing a whole new building of DVC villas for this hotel. This building will be located on the shores of the Seven Seas Lagoon, so some rooms will likely have great views across the Lagoon.

Construction at the Polynesian Resort

The new building will be located where the Spirit of Aloha dinner show used to be, so Spirit of Aloha has been permanently closed. The new villas are expected to open sometime in late 2024.

Hotel Pool Refurbishments

One of the newest hotels in Disney World is the Walt Disney World Swan Reserve. This hotel just opened last year.

Swan Reserve

If you’re planning on staying there soon, be aware that the pool is currently closed for some refurbishments.

We’re not sure when the pool will reopen, but we’ll keep an eye out and let you know when it’s available.
