New ‘We Don’t Talk About Bruno’ Tervis Tumbler at Walt Disney World

We don’t talk about Bruno, but we will be talking about this new Tervis tumbler. We found the “Encanto” tumbler at the Emporium in Magic Kingdom.

PHOTOS: Fantasmic! Has Returned to Disneyland

It’s taken a while for nighttime entertainment to return to Disneyland.

Mickey’s Mix Magic

We sure have missed ending our day in Disneyland with nighttime shows, but thankfully, we don’t have to live without them anymore! Recently, World of Color, Disneyland Forever, and an upgraded Main Street Electrical Parade all returned to Disneyland Resort. On top of that, one of our all-time favorite nighttime spectaculars came back recently, and we couldn’t be more excited!

Fantasmic! is officially back in Disneyland!

Fantasmic is BACK!

In this classic 27-minute show, Mickey dreams that he’s the Sorcerer’s Apprentice, conducting scenes from Fantasia and other popular Disney movies. It’s a can’t-miss when you’re visiting Disneyland, and we made sure to stake out our spot for the show ahead of time!

There’s some seriously cool tech in this show.

It was definitely worth the wait because we got to see many of our favorite heroes and villains, hear some spectacular music, and watch the many action-packed scenes unfold before us. (Who DOESN’T want to see a giant fire-breathing dragon Maleficent?!)

They brought the pirate ship back too!

And you know we can’t resist talking about that fantastic riverboat finale with a massive variety of Disney characters! It was so exciting to see everyone back on the water again after such a long hiatus. (It has been two years, y’all!)

It’s so exciting to have it back!

But as an added note, keep in mind that crowds will be pretty heavy when you leave the show — we got stuck in some serious traffic on the way out! Stay patient and take your time.

Crowds after Fantasmic!

If you’re heading to Disneyland Park soon, make sure to check this show out — it’s a classic! We hope that soon, we’ll get to see it in Disney World once again, so stay tuned to DFB for any announcements on when it may return to Hollywood Studios.

Why People Aren’t Traveling to Disney World in 2023

With Disney World opening up reservations for 2023 vacations soon, it might be a good time to start thinking about the future.

What’s more magical than balloons on Main Street, U.S.A.?

It’s no secret that planning a Disney vacation is somewhat complicated right now when it comes down to rising airfare prices, navigating Genie+, park reservations, crowds, and more. We asked DFB readers to share whether they are (or are not) planning a 2023 Disney World vacation, and there were lots of responses!

We reached out on Facebook (go ahead and give us a follow if you want to share your thoughts in the future!) to find out who’s planning a Disney World vacation in 2023 — and who’s not. There are a lot of reasons why you might be planning a 2023 trip — and plenty of other reasons to put a Disney trip on the back burner for a few years. We’re breaking down what our readers said, so let’s get into it!

Yes

Many of our readers are planning 2023 Disney World trips! Several readers mentioned that after having to reschedule several trips over the past few years due to COVID, 2023 is finally the time they can visit. One reader said, “Yes! We had to reschedule our trip 3 times since 2019 […]. It has been a rough couple of years so we are planning to go for our Spring Break.”

Spaceship Earth at EPCOT

Another reader said they too have had a difficult year. They commented, “YES. We’ve had a tough year and plan on treating ourselves.”

Tower of Terror

Some readers said they visit Disney World annually and 2023 will be no exception. One said, “Absolutely!! We go every January. We save money all year for our four-night trip. We take the earliest flight to Disney and the latest flight home to get nearly five full days at our happy place. We travel with my best friend and her family and the memories we make are precious. We love our Disney trips!”

Tree of Life

Other readers noted that 2023 is the last chance to check out Disney World’s 50th anniversary festivities, and a reader  said, “I was there for the 25th anniversary and want to be there for the 50th before it ends.” The 18-month 50th anniversary celebration ends on April 1st, 2023.

50th Anniversary on Cinderella Castle

And for some readers, 2023 will be their FIRST trip to Disney World (woohoo!). A reader commented, “Yes! It’ll be my first time ever visiting WDW and I am so excited! Currently binge watching allll the DFB videos on resorts and food.” We’re happy to help!

The Monorail in EPCOT

There are plenty of reasons to be excited about a 2023 Disney World trip but not every reader is, so next up, we talk about all the reasons our readers are NOT planning a trip next year.

EVERYTHING you need to know before booking a 2023 Disney World trip!

No, it’s too expensive

Many of our readers are concerned about the rising expenses of a Disney World trip. As one reader put it, “Nope, I can take my entire family to Europe for 2 weeks for the cost of a WDW vacay. And I live in Central FL!”

Even Mickey Bars have gotten more expensive

Some of our readers have Disney World plans in 2022, and the cost of that trip means they may have to wait for some time to return again. A reader said, “No, because I am going to Disney World for the first [time] ever (I’m 42) in 29 more days, and I have a crazy long travel bucket list. More places to visit, not enough money to travel as often as I would like, unfortunately. I can only afford one trip per year.”

Price increases happen!

Another reader added, “We are going this summer. With the price of a trip to Disney these days, it will be a little while before we consider it again.”

Many iconic Disney World snacks got a BIG price increase

There ARE ways to budget and visit Disney World but we understand that with tons of price increases, it doesn’t work for everyone. Don’t forget to visit our Disney discounts page before deciding to skip a 2023 visit!

Why are prices increasing in the parks? Here’s what Disney CEO Bob Chapek has to say.

No, too much has changed

Many of our readers cited all the changes in Disney World over the past 5 years as reasons to avoid a trip anytime soon. One reader summed it up, “1. DDP is not available. 2. Genie+ is not in my opinion a good enough substitute for FastPass, especially when you have kids. FastPass was a lifesaver. 3. The money… I don’t mind spending the money IF it is worth it. Right now it’s not.” The Disney Dining Plan has been unavailable since 2020, and Genie+ is the new paid version of FastPass+.

Disney Genie

Another reader said, “No, and probably not for quite some time. I really don’t want to start my day at 7am to get [Lightning Lane reservations with Genie+], then spend my day attached to my phone in order to get more [Lightning Lanes]. I’m definitely a planner, but it’s a little excessive for me — especially when it’s supposed to be a vacation. But, that’s just me.” When making Genie+ Lightning Lane reservations, guests can start scheduling them daily at 7AM, which means quite the early wakeup time for a vacation.

Everest Lightning Lane

And despite all the changes in the parks, sometimes it feels even more crowded than ever! Many readers mentioned waiting until the surge of crowds die down a bit, and a commented, “If all the people who say they are never going back actually never go back, then yes, that’s when I’ll return. Too crowded now so I’m gonna wait til everyone else gets so mad that they mean it!”

Crowds on Main Street, U.S.A.

If you’re overwhelmed by everything there is to learn about Disney World now, it’s not a bad idea to take some time to research all those changes before planning a 2023 visit.

Beware of these 5 Disney World changes.

If you’re still on the fence about visiting Disney World in 2023, we recommend starting below to help you make your decision!

There are definitely reasons to visit Disney World in 2023, but we understand why you might want to wait until 2024! Keep reading DFB for more Disney World tips and tricks!

Roof and Stairs Mostly Restored Amidst Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort Construction

Refurbished resort studio rooms are under construction at The Villas at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa for Disney Vacation Club members. Areas of the resort have been closed and covered in scaffolding as the buildings are updated inside and out.

The scaffolding covers every floor of this building.

White tarps cover the top row of the scaffolding.

Roof shingles were removed for refurbishment but have mostly been replaced.

We didn’t see any crew members when we last checked on construction.

Some white tarps are on a roof in the distance.

Black weather-proof sheathing is still visible on one roof where shingles have not been replaced.

We could also still see some black sheathing on smaller roofs.

Stairwells were almost completely dismantled a few weeks ago but have been slowly reconstructed.

The stairs and walls have been restored to this stairwell, but final paneling has yet to be installed.

We can still see the wood and steel supports of the walls.

On the other end of the building, a green cherry picker vehicle is parked behind the construction walls.

New walls have yet to be installed around this stairwell.

Scaffolding is wrapped around the lake side of the building, too.

Preview one of the new Disney Vacation Club Villas.

Monday Merch Meeting: Pride Collection, Star Wars Retro, Goofy’s 90th, & More!

Good morning, everyone. An unusual thing occurred today, as for the first time in the few years that we have been conducting our weekly shopping excursions, the Monday merch drop didn’t happen. Yep. I waited and waited, but none of the items I was anticipating the arrival of made an appearance.

So, since we are all here anyway, I’ve curated a collection of some of my favorite pieces that have emerged throughout the week. No point in wasting an opportunity to virtual window shop new Disney merch, right?

Pride Collection Plush

The Pride Collection saw three new plush additions this week in Minnie, Mickey, and Stitch, all in a 15 and 3/4 inch size. All three feature the trademark rainbow design in celebration of Pride.

Moana Woven Shirt for Men

Maybe it is just me with my upcoming Aulani trip on my mind, but this Moana Woven Shirt for Men, $59.99, is perfect for those summery social gatherings in the northern hemisphere months ahead.

The Main Street Electrical Parade 50th Anniversary Light-Up Wall Decor

Here is one that I am going to need to add to my new office next month. The Main Street Electrical Parade 50th Anniversary Light-Up Wall Decor, $49.99 is a gorgeous keepsake to celebrate this long-running Disney favorite.

America Chavez Denim Backpack – Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness

Have anyone caught the new Doctor Strange movie yet? I haven’t myself but it is on my list, even though my son has suggested I might need to see it twice to understand it. There is a new America Chavez Denim Backpack – Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, $39.99, now available.

Pre-Order Star Wars Retro Collection Action Figure Set by Hasbro

Do you remember being young and not wise enough to appreciate your action figures at the time? You can now make up for taking them for granted by grabbing the Star Wars Retro Collection Action Figure Set by Hasbro, $69.99. Start fresh with a new set!

Fauna Short Romper for Women – Sleeping Beauty

Another item to add to my Hawai’i packing list. The Fauna Short Romper for Women – Sleeping Beauty, $49.99, will be well suited to those casual days strolling along the beach.

Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge Hooded Tunic for Women

I don’t know exactly why, but I really love this Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge Hooded Tunic for Women, $44.99. Oversized hoods are fantastic and a great summer accessory for those photos you will take in Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge.

Goofy 90th Anniversary Collectible Key – Special Edition

Another Goofy anniversary item, this time for the key collectors among us. See the Goofy 90th Anniversary Collectible Key – Special Edition, $14.99.

Star Wars ”Vader’s Security Services” Pullover Hoodie for Adults

This one made me laugh. A more colorful option for Star Wars lovers, the Star Wars ”Vader’s Security Services” Pullover Hoodie for Adults, $54.99, is worth a look below.

Meanwhile, in Disney Springs

Since it has become a bit of a tradition for me to leave you with something that makes me hungry — it is dessert time here in Sydney, after all — I couldn’t resist something a bit fancier this week, the Lightsaber Eclair!

Coming Soon

Thanks for joining me this week. I will keep an eye on the mystery of the disappearing merch situation and see what I can dig up tomorrow as well.
